《Isekai Gundam (Reboot)》Episode 38: Gaian War, Nortfrozz (Part 1)

Nortfrozz had only two seasons, which were dubbed by visitors as ‘Freeze Your Balls Off’ and ‘Nothing but Mud’. Despite this, Nortfrozz had several exports that kept the nation afloat. These exports included a ‘special mud’ that was useful for cosmetics, mail-order-brides, alcohol, the ‘charming personality of the downtrodden masses’ and of course the highly expensive bottled ‘mineral water’ known as ‘Melted Snow’, which totally wasn’t actual melted snow. The very fact that high society from outside Nortfrozz bought the super-expensive bottles of plain water was one of the few bits of joy that brightened the lives of the masses during the long months of bitter cold and long months of knee-deep mud. While it could easily be said by outsiders that most of Nortfrozz had the worst living conditions for any human in the Human Kingdoms, they would not be talking about the crown jewels of Nortfrozz, the places where all the money went.
As the war dragged on and calls for more troops became louder and more frequent, more and more families were being torn apart as their sons, brothers, fathers and eventually even grandfathers were called to the front while the nobility and royalty lounged about in the few places where the cold and mud was kept at bay. As the metal clouds made by the Sub-Humans and Barbarians began to encroach into Nortfrozz, the people became restless. Perhaps it was inevitable; the absolutely abysmal conditions, coupled with the greed and corruption of the ruling elite and the imminent invasion by an outside party cause the powder keg that had been waiting for decades to finally ignite.
It started in a single town, but swiftly spread like a wildfire.
Revolution.
No longer would the masses bear the burden that was forced upon them; the nobles who had trodden upon them for centuries and sent their men to die would be overthrown!
…
As Arkhan watched the revolt in Nortfrozz from the safety of his flagship, he began to worry. Nortfrozz reminded him a lot of a certain Eastern E*ropean contry that had also had an uprising hell bent on the annihilation of the elite, and the tragedies that the S*viet Government had caused (which included but were not limited to genocide and artificial famine) were not something that he wanted to have happen in any nation. While in his world the rest of the world had not intervened in R*ssia’s affairs and let the ‘Reds’ take over, he would make sure that the same government that came about through the rise of the Bolsh*viks would not manifest itself in Nortfrozz. He wasn’t going to save the current regime; he was going to help steer the revolution into a more positive direction, and the fact that he had ordered his troops to take as many POWs as possible and treat them well would pay great dividends in this endeavor.

…
There was a storm coming to the capital of Nortfrozz; Frozzgrad. It was a storm many decades in the making, as ever since the rule of Ivankovv the Terrible the policies that had made life hell for the populace had grown ever worse. Now the storm had finally begun, and after over three weeks of non-stop destruction with serfs destroying every trace of the nobility they could get their hands on, the mob had finally cornered the Nortfrozz aristocracy in the capital. Truth be told, the populace never thought they would get this far, as every previous revolt had been crushed almost instantly, but this time there were ‘bigger fish to fry’ and the garrisons had been depleted during the war with the invaders.
Before the mob could begin their very costly assault on the heavily fortified capital, they were approached by two of the invaders while a massive metal beast flew down from the sky and landed in the middle of the mob. The beast’s mouth opened and from its gullet came a sight that was enough to bring tears to the eyes of many. Some of those who were sent to the front stepped out from within the beast and made their way to the mob. Families were being reunited, and the two invaders simply stood by and watched.
With a wave of the hand, one of the invaders bid the beast to shut its mouth and fly away after the last man had been disgorged. As the beast flew into the air and eventually out of sight, the leaders of the revolution approached the two heavily armored invaders.
“We cannot begin to express our thanks for the return of those who we thought forever lost. But we must know, what do you Metal Demons want in exchange?” One of the leaders of the revolution asked the Metal Demon with one eye.
“That is simple. We wish to prevent the worst-case scenario from occurring by assisting in the revolution.”
“Why? Do you seek to control the People’s Government after we claim victory?”
“No. Our Leader does not desire more land or even puppets or vassals. No, what he wants is for this revolution to become something truly great. He desires this revolution to succeed and for the government that arises afterwards to be less tyrannical and more peaceful.”

This was not what the Revolutionaries were expecting.
“How exactly would the rule of the People become tyrannical?”
The Metal Demon with an oddly shaped eye spoke a simple series of words.
“Power corrupts; Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Those who know not of how to run a nation properly will more often than not run it into the ground as intelligent life’s inbuilt drive for power and authority corrupts good people with strong ideals into monsters with only the drive for more power and more control. We don’t want the ideals of the Revolution to become twisted and corrupted or to follow a darker path.”
The leaders thought on the Metal Demon’s words. It was ultimately correct in its assumption that humans were prone to giving into the corrupting influence of absolute power. On the way to the capital, people who had the strongest of faith in the cause had already committed horrible acts and the more pure-hearted members of the revolution did not want to fall into the same state when they eventually seized power. A government of the people, by the people and for the people could not become anything other than a despotic and tyrannical mockery of itself if they gave into their own desires and fears.
“So, how would you keep us from that path?” The founder of the revolution asked.
“By helping you create a place like our home; A land of the free, where all are equal, and all can pursue life, liberty and property so long as the pursuit and acquisition of these things does not deprive others of them.”
The Metal Demon with the circular eye turned to face the fortress city that was just less than seven miles away.
“But first we should deal with the problem at hand; a newer, better nation cannot truly be born in Nortfrozz without the old order being torn down.”
“Yes,” one of the leaders said, “Once the elitist bastards have been slain, we can focus on building a better Motherland.”
Both of the Metal Demons replied simultaneously with one word.
“No.”
“WHY NOT?!” the leaders all cried out at once.
The one with the circular eye spoke first, followed by the one with the oddly shaped eye.
“Don’t kill the nobles; living in humiliation is a far greater punishment for them than death. Simply seize their assets and leave them with just enough to get by for a year if they were in your shoes.”
“If they die during or after the battle for the city, they die without knowing the hardships that you have faced. Show them the mercy you were denied. Be the better men.”
The leadership was shocked. That actually sounded like a better punishment for the blue-blooded bastards than simply killing them…
And so, after relaying this decision to the rest of the mob as thoroughly as possible, the combined forces of a massive mob of serfs and the Metal Demons began their attack on the fortress city of Frozzgrad merely four days after the returning of the POWs.

The Good Necromancer
Hundreds of years ago, shortly after the Great Cataclysm which destroyed the Ancient World, was the Age of Heroes. One of these great heroes started off in the most hated profession of the time, Necromancer. Join him and his comrades as they accomplish the first of the Good Necromancers legendary tasks. ***** So, quick update for those who pay attention to this section. I'm finally coming out of finals for this semester, and I plan on getting the whole already posted section revised. It's taken me a while to change the necessary things, as I had to start all the way over, but I've at least got the rough drafts for all the revised chapters. These should be going up within the next week or so, still have to go to work, but I am here, I haven't forgotten or dropped the story. Just trying to make this the best work that I can produce. P.S. I will be releasing additional stories. They are all going to be in the Good Necromancer world, however the others will give you an idea on how humans in other locations survived and have thrived. Or not. =)
