《Arcana》Chapter 35 - Varag Bead

“Ho ho~, your man you say? I don’t recall you ever having any ownership of Lan” [Asphine]
“I… hicc!” [Enrica]
WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT ME BEING SOMEONE’S PROPERTY?!
“I…” [Enrica]
“Iron… that drink…” [Taft]
“!” [Iron]
“That was a varag bead, wasn’t it?” [Taft]
“Varag bead?” [Lan]
“Iron, you idiot…” [Ruin]
“What is…?” [Lan]
“A varag bead is a bead of concentrated alcohol. It is stored alcohol that is supposed to be mixed with water for it to be diluted. The varag was designed to keep alcohol fresh and also to reduce the use of storage space. A few beads could turn a river into liquor… even if that was a single bead, it shouldn’t be consumed by a single person and to think that it was only mixed in a single glass… how horrifying.” [Taft]
And I was supposed to drink that?!
“You idiot! You clearly went too far this time!” [Ruin]
“I…!” [Enrica]
*thud
“Ah… she’s out for the count” [Taft]
“Enrica!” [Iron]
Enrica collapsed on the table. I feel sorry for her but I am thankful that she took the bullet for me… thank you Enrica, you will be missed…!
“Is she… dead?” [Asphine]
“””NO SHE’S NOT!”””
“Ha~ this ruined the mood. Go and take Enrica to Stephan. You did this so take responsibility” [Ruin]
“Whatever… We’re off” [Iron]
Iron rushed towards the town hall to get Enrica treated.
“Time doesn’t work here” is what I was told so they won’t die…
Enrica will be fine…
I guess?
“You okay Lan?” [Ruin]
“Hmmm? Ah yeah, I’m fine” [Lan]
“Then let’s continue, there may have been mishaps but the night is young!” [Ruin]
“””YEAH!”””
And so, we continued to drink until dawn.
I didn’t feel drunk or lightheaded but all of them were knocked out.

Thankfully, the place we stayed at was outdoors so we were allowed to stay even though they closed around midnight.
Truth be told, I never knew that drinking could be this exhausting; well, to be precise, it was a pain but it was fun.
It felt like they were slowly opening up to me.
I’m so happy that I met actual people to talk and spend time with.
Imagine if I got out of this place and resembled a madman.
I didn’t sleep so I looked after my drunk companions.
One by one they woke up and went home.
They were all worried about me not sleeping but I reassured them that I’d be fine, this is nothing compared to the sleepless nights out on the forest.
Everyone went home then so did I.
When I got home I took a shower since I reek of alcohol.
I didn’t think that I wouldn’t get drunk, that was a bit unexpected.
I don’t think I’ll be getting any sleep before night time so I still have a lot of time to waste.
Hmmm
What to do…
Ah!
Sparklight, we still haven’t gotten along that much haven’t we?
Guess I’ll go look for a place to practice with my new rapier.
