《Arcana》Chapter 34 - A Small Gathering

“So… let’s begin your baptism!” [Ruin]
“”””YEAHHHH!!!”””””
All the elites that I met outside of the village were present but there were also new faces that Ruin introduced.
They were all…small.
If everyone in this village wasn’t like this, I’d be reluctant since it looks like minors are teaching me how to drink…
Anyway, right now I’m in between Iron and Enrica.
It seems that his overprotectiveness earlier wasn’t just for show.
He’s been wary of me since this gathering began while Enrica was being reckless beside me as well-
“Come now, let’s get along” [Ruin]
“Yea, loosen up Iron!” [Taft]
“Kuh…” [Iron]
While in front of me were new faces
“Hey, hey, are you single? My name’s Asphine!” [Asphine]
“Where did you come from? You have an unfamiliar air to you… anyway, I’m Rana, nice to meet you” [Rana]
“Y-You were so cool earlier… I’m Opal” [Opal]
“Ah hahaha it’s nice to… meet you all” [Lan]
I can feel the shift in bloodlust; from the brother, now is oozing from Enrica.
What am I supposed to do?
Wait… did I even do anything wrong to feel guilty about?
Oh, what the heck is with this situation-
“Here. Don’t worry, this is all just because we haven’t started yet” [Ruin]
“I-I see…” [Lan]
“Now…” [Ruin]
“”””DRINK!!!””””
*gulp*
“Puwah! Bitter yet refreshing” [Lan]
“””””HOOOOO”””””
My first shot of alcohol… it was something new.
They usually say that alcohol tastes bitter but it isn’t all that bad…
“Next!” [Ruin]
And so our drinks continue to circulate.
After some shots, the dwarves around me were still fine while I, a human was… actually pretty fine.
I don’t know why but the bitterness and the strong scent of alcohol vanished after the second shot.
Now, each shot tastes like juice… I feel like I’m cheating.

Iron POV>
We’ve had a few bottles already… this is unprecedented!
Dwarves are beings that have the highest alcohol tolerance!
How can this mere human… oh well, I did prepare a secret weapon beforehand.
I bought a pill of concentrated alcohol that’s 10 times more potent!
Now, all that’s left is to slip it in this foreigner’s drink! BWAHAHAHA!
Lan POV>
“Puwah! That tasted real good!” [Lan]
It’s been about 2 hours of straight drinking now, we also share our experiences and mingle with each other
“H-Hey forei- I mean Lan, I poured you one. Feel honored” [Iron]
“! Thank you!” [Lan]
Maybe he’s starting to open up to me?
Is this what they meant when they said ‘alcohol washes away all barriers’?
This is a great development!
“Woah! That drink looks beautiful! I didn’t know that Iron had skills when it came to alcohol!” [Asphine]
“That’s true, it does look beautiful” [Lan]
“Hmm? That color… isn’t that” [Taft]
“Hey Lan” [Asphine]
“Y-Yes?” [Lan]
“Would you like to share this shot…” [Asphine]
Uh… the mood shifted all of a sudden
“-mouth to mouth? *wink” [Asphine]
“!?!??!!” [Lan]
And like a bolt of lightning-
SWIPE
“gulp*gulp*gulp*” [Enrica]
“AH?!?!” [Iron]
“Hah! Share what….drink…? hicc!” [Enrica]
“AaaaaaAaaaaah!?” [Iron]
… Iron was in a state of panic while Enrica chugged my shot down.
I guess I’ll have to thank her for… tha-
“Don’t…” [Enrica]
She suddenly got too close to Asphine while pointing straight at her face-
“-touch my man” [Enrica]
“””””?!”””””

This fiction is based on a short story I wrote inspired by a prompt on r/WritingPrompts. Contrary to my plans, I haven't sketched out the story in detail or written anything ahead of time. I've discovered I don't do well at that. I'm just writing this thing and we'll see where it takes us, OK? Nothing every came easy to Ryan Shakespeare, but as an elite British Army sniper he had found a niche that suited him, right up to the point at which he found himself summoned to a world far from his own to fulfil the job of a champion. Luckily, Ryan arrived with his experimental sniper rifle, so surely killing the dragon and getting his chance to go home would be a simple job, right? But Ryan should have known better, because nothing ever comes easy. Caught up in the politics of the Draconic League, Ryan will need to keep all his wits about him and use every resource at his disposal if he's going to persuade these people to let him do his job and go home.

R0Q-T357-Alpha (callsign: Rock) is a "Core Child," an irredeemably-crippled test tube baby modified and repurposed by an advanced U.S. military project to serve as the CPU for two-thirds of America's orbital defense systems. Though no one outside of the Pentagon has ever heard of him, he protected his homeland from three ICBMs, a Pacific theatre invasion fleet, and one rogue asteroid. Now, after twenty-seven years of distinguished service from "birth," he is being honorably discharged into civilian life. The only problem is that "civilian life" isn't exactly livable for a glorified brain in a jar. How does a couple pounds of grey matter surrounded by five tons of life support systems and enough co-processing enhancements to take over the planet enjoy an early retirement when he's surrounded by overzealous politicians, corporate spies, and foreign agents after military secrets? The real world isn't that forgiving.
