《The everyday life of James Moriarty》The start of James Moriarty's search part 2

CHAPTER 13

We are now inside the cave and slowly making our way deeper.

An hour has passed but we still haven’t found Mr. Douf or any of the security.

The tools we gathered up only had 2 flashlights so I connected them to both Ana and Abigail’s rifle. I can somewhat see at the dark so I didn’t really need it.

I was really reluctant, or actually, I still am for giving them guns. But we can’t be too careful, so I just taught them on how to release the lock and how to aim and shoot.

*Clack*

“”Kyaaaaa!!!””

*Ratatatatatatata!!!*

Which adds up to my worries even more.

“Um…girls, that was just rock falling to ground, it’s not something you shoot at.”

“Even if you say that, this is our first time in a real life Raid.”

“M-Ms. Abigail is right; we are walking in a dark and abandoned-like area, while fully knowing that something will attack

us. Just like the early Resident Evil games.”

Hmm…now that they mentioned it, it does somewhat have that vibe. But I’m surprised that Ana knows about video games.

But if this keeps going, we won’t make much progress. I need to think of something.

“Ana, Abigail I know something that could help you relax.”

I just hope it’ll work.

“Think of it as a game. The golems are the enemies and all you have to do is shoot at them. Ana you’ll Clair Redfield and

Abigail is Ada Wong.”

They both pondered for a while and the Ana raised her hand.

“Um…can I change my player? I rather pick Jill Valentine or Sheva Alomar.”

Eh? Is that really important right now?

“Oh! If she can change, I want mine to be Leon Kennedy.”

“But Leon is a guy.”

“Who said that he can’t have a gender bender!?”

You know what; I’ll just leave it at that. It seems to me that their finally calmed down, which is a perfect, since I can hear a few of them heading our way.

*Thud* *Thud* *Thud* *Thud*

With the strong stomping, the girls eventually spotted then and Abigail started to count.

“Eh? There here? Um, let’s see…1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6……15……Eh!? 25!?”

I’m surprised about the number myself.

“Only 25? I thought there’d be more of them, like 60 or 80 at least. Oh well, the easier the batter I guess.”

“”………………””

Huh? Why are they quiet all of a sudden? Did I say something weird?

But I guess this is a good chance for me to release all my stress from the gymnasium. But still, only 25…

“Hey girls, can you do me a favor and hide somewhere for a while?”

“Huh? But don’t you need our help?”

“It’s alright this number isn’t something to worry about.”

“Seriously Moriarty, you’ve been saying scary things like its nothing.”

Have I? I’m only saying that 25 golems isn’t a threat. So I don’t think what I said is a scary at all.

Oh! But before I start fighting I need to…

“Ana, can you hold on to these for me?”

“Eh! Your guns!? But if you give these, you won’t have any weapons to fight with!”

“Don’t worry; I plan to use these Pickaxes. Anyway, just keep yourselves hidden, I’ll make these quick.”

25 golems are now marching in front of me with stone hammers, while I confront them with two pickaxes on both hands.

Now then, on which side should I go with first? The right, the left side, no, I’ll strike in the middle and tear apart the ones that attack me from both the sides.

I did say to Ana I’ll finish it quickly.

Huh? Did a few of them walked back for a bit? Nah, it can’t be. After all these are just golems, their just made out of stones.

“And with that, I’ll have all of you help me relief my anger. Though all of you are a few in numbers, I’ll be sure to not let a single one of you escape me.”

5 minutes has passed and all 25 golems are now in the floor in pieces.

I knew it, 25 isn’t enough. It did help a little.

“Damn Moriarty, you weren’t kidding when you said “quick”, you reduced these guys into rubble within minutes.”

“I did say I’ll be quick about it, but more importantly. You already know about me don’t you? Abigail.”

“…………*sigh* I’m that obvious?”

“I guess you could say that you reaction is lacking, if you were like any other student they’d be scared of me.”

That’s right, just like what happened at the gym.

“James? What’s going on?”

Ana must have felt the mood getting heavy so she got close to me with a worried face while altering her look between me and Abigail.

“Yeah, you’re right, I do know about you, even before you enrolled here.”

“So you knew about my “Job” and the things I did?”

“I do, or to be more honest, Prof. Douf told me about you.”

I got a feeling Mr. Douf was on to me. I guess my intuition was right.

“Prof. Douf said that you we’re quit famous in the hidden world, so I got curious and did my own digging and found out that you did amazing…no, more like impossible things, whether you’re a human or not.”

She really does know a lot about me. But I don’t get this feeling like when I thought I was found out by Reshulla. Well I guess I won’t, seeing that the spell is gone.

“Anyway, let me reintroduce myself. I’m Abigail Mikkins, an Alchemist…OK fine, I’m just an apprentice. But I’ll be a fully fledged one soon…hopefully.”

I’m a little surprised to hear that she’s an alchemist. All the alchemists I meet so far are all old and grumpy for some reason. Wait, if she said she’s an alchemist, then that would mean…

“So Mr. Douf is…”

“Yup, he’s an alchemist to and a really good one.”

“Ana, do you know about Mr. Douf to?”

“I do, but I never knew there was another alchemist beside him.”

Well that clears up a few things, but…

“Hey Abigail, I got another question. Does the other professor know about you and Mr. Douf? As alchemists I mean.”

“No, not really. Mr. Douf even said that I should keep it a secret form the all the students, besides the people he told me

to of course.”

“I see…”

“Why do you ask?”

I wasn’t sure yet so I just a quick reply saying “It’s nothing” and continued our walk.

But while we do, I noticed Ana is a lot quieter then she usually does, I got worried so I asked her if she’s doing fine.

“I’m alright; it’s just that I have no idea who you really are. Oh, but it’s not like I want you to tell me now or anything. Just

until you think you’re ready.”

Seeing Ana like this kind of reminds me that she was the very first girl who cried for my sake. She got so worried about me when the C4 exploded that she hugged my tightly.

“………do you want to know more about me, Ana?”

“Eh? Um…I do, but you don’t have to force yourself for my sake.”

“Nah, it’s alright. Seeing as we’ll be her for a while, I might as well tell you some of my story that is if you’re still up to it.”

Ana stopped on her tracks and breathed heavily, she then looks at me in the eyes, full of determination. It’s really surprising to see her with such strong eyes.

“If you would, James.”

“Were should I start? Alright, it all started when I was 5……………”

The surroundings we see now are different from before, the walls are smooth to the touch and some of them gleams from the flash light.

It’s been 30 minutes after telling them my story, but of course I didn’t go in every detail. It might hinder us if we need to act fast after all.

But even though I said that, the only ones that attacked us are 10 to 15 golems, not really life threatening.

“So, is it true that you first job was to take down a “True Ancestor”?”

“Well yeah, truth is after beating her, all the other jobs I’ve done is easy.”

Even after my little story though, they tend to ask me questions.

“Eh!? But what I heard from grandfather, defeating a “True Ancestor” is next to impossible. Um… if you don’t mind me asking, how old did you do that job?”

“Hmm? Oh, I think I was around 8 or 9 years old.”

“”……………………””

Their giving me that shocked look again.

The first to regain their senses is Ana.

“Y—you we’re 9 years old? T—that’s impossible. Such a young child, to be able to defeat a monster such as that is…”

“That’s why I said that I was really hard for me. I was still a kid back then.”

“Whether you’re a kid or not Moriarty, what you just said is just plain crazy. But the fact that you actually did it is even

Now even Abigail is saying such things, but I guess fighting someone with enough power to destroy a city is a little crazy.

While they keep asking questions, we found stairs headed to a lower floor.

But seeing stairs here, it was already obvious that the cave we are now is not naturally made.

We continue our walk, but this time I told them to be quieter, since I could hear the golem’s heavy steps. But hearing these footsteps made me realize that their walking pattern is strange.

I look at Ana and Abigail told them to follow me with a quiet voice. As for their response, they gave me a serious look and nod.

Passing through golems without attacking them or us being seen is a little hard to do, since Ana and Abigail isn’t use to do these kinds of things, so it took more time than I thought we would.

Actually I had to carry Abigail half way through. I guess all that running, crouching and jumping made her really tired. She even said something like this to me…

“I might be an alchemist, but I’m nothing like Edward.”

An anime reference huh? Well it is true that your nothing like him.

We passed the golems that we encounter and eventually found what seems to be another cave. But this one has steel bars.

Ana, who saw this gave out a smile and asked to be sure.

“James, could it be that cage…”

I wasn’t the one who answered her but it was Abigail who is still on my back.

“Most likely, they must have locked up Prof. Douf in there to.”

“…………whether he is or not, we need to get those guys out of there. You two stay here and keep yourselves hidden.”

Obviously since that’s a cage with people inside it, there will be guards. But the thing that caught my eyes is…

“Those golems look different from the ones roaming around.”

These golems are more slender, like a woman’s toned body, not only that their hands and legs are replaced with pointed steel and most of all…

“They have no heads; can these things even see anything?”

Before I head out I need to try something.

I walked out quietly and show myself to the headless golems.

(Are they even facing forward? I can’t really tell.)

I then picked up a rock and threw it at a wall close to where they stand.

*Crash!!* *Crash!!* *Crash!!*

And they started to pierce the wall like there’s no tomorrow.

(So they don’t use their eye, but their ears…wait they have ears? Who ever made these things needs to learn more about the human anatomy.)

Their total number is just 4 and their speed is a not like the first golems we have seen. But even with that kind of speed, it isn’t much of a threat.

But to just make things a little fun for me, let’s see if they can hear me coming at them.

I took out two of the pickaxes that are held with the belt that we found earlier at the entrance of the cave, and kneeled down in a running start position.

(Not a sound, not even a single pinch of sound.)

Alright, it’s been long since I used this move, but…I’ll just start the count.

(3…2…1…)

*………*

*………*

*………*

*………*

“…and done.”

I guess I can still do this even though I haven’t used it for so long. I’d feel really bad if I can’t use it, I trained hard for it after all.

“Hey girls, it’s safe to come over here now.”

“Huh? Wha!? James!? Since when did you get there?”

“Huh? Eh!? Mo—Moriarty!? How in the world did you…wait…their still standing!”

“Hmm? Standing? You mean the golems?”

Oh, she’s right. They really are still standing.

Seeing as one of them is getting in the way I lightly poked one on its shoulder and…

*Boom*

It breaks down into pieces.

The girls came out of hiding and walked closer to me while look at the rubble on the ground.

“You did something amazing again James. You just disappeared in a blink of an eye.”

I guess that kind of speed is a little shocking. But more importantly, we need to get these people out.

“Hey uh…kid, did you just do something to these things.”

“Hmm?”

I was called by one of the people inside the cell.

The silhouette came out of the dark and a man that seems to be in his 30s stood tall and look straight at me.

“Yeah, that was me. But more importantly, is Mr. Douf here?”

“Sorry kid, but Mr. Dorrel was sent somewhere else.”

“I thought so.”

“Wait, you mean Prof. Douf isn’t here?”

Abigail asked again, but the answer still remained.

But as for me, I had a feeling that he won’t be here to begin with.

We aren’t able to find the key so we just used one of the pistols on the cell’s gate.

“Thanks kid; I thought we’d never get out of there.”

After him, the other men inside slowly got themselves out. For the reason for them to be this slow, is because all of them are injured, even the big guy I’m taking to is hurt.

“By the way, I’m Russle Vogner, 2nd platoon captain of the Weorold security. But you can just call me Rusty.”

“Rusty huh? Alright. My names James Moriarty, it’s nice to meet you.”

“Wait, your James Moriaty?”

Oh no, does this guy also know about my past?

“You heard of me?”

“Yeah, I heard about you from Mr. Dorrel. He said that you saved him.”

So that was it? I though he knew about me back when I was still doing jobs with my mother.

I asked where Rusty where could Mr. Douf be, but unfortunately he doesn’t know where he is ether.

He originally plans to continue his search but with this much injured men, they won’t be able to.

“Look, you can’t go any further than this. All of your men are down, they won’t be able to fight back and protect Mr. Douf, much less find him.”

“But you can’t expect us to just sit here and do nothing.”

“That is why I’m going.”

I don’t want to sound mean here, but taking them along will just make thing harder for me so I told them not to come before they even asked.

We had a few turnabouts, but he eventually gave in and let me go, with a condition.

“Take one of my men with you. You can’t be too sure what might happen out there.”

Oh, I guess not all of them are injured, but the guy who’s standing before me seems to be a little angry at me for some reason.

But then again, he is wearing a helmet, but even though, I could still feel his angry. Did I do anything wrong?

“This is my 2nd in command, Chilton.”

“Alright, it’s nice to meet...Hmm!?”

Did the ground shake a little?

Just to make sure, I kneeled down and placed my hand on the ground.

“Everyone stop moving.”

The shaking is………………

“We have to run to the upper floor, now!”

“James? Is there something going…”

“Not now Ana, just run!”

Ana already saw me doing this kind of thing once in the faculty building, so she told everyone hurry and get to the top floor.

Rusty eventually noticed the shaking to and ordered his men who are able to walk, carry the ones that can’t and start running.

The shaking got strong by every second and now the ceiling started to fall apart.

The injured and the ones carrying them are placed first while the 2nd is Rusty, then me next is the helmet wearing Vice

Cpt. Chilton and the last are Ana and Abigail.

“If I ever got out of this place…hah…hah…, I promise I’ll start taking PE seriously!”

From the back, I could hear Abigail promising to herself while breathing heavily.

I could run passed them easily, but I can’t really head first since someone might trip and…

“Kyaa!?”

As soon as I heard someone’s scream, I found Abigail on the floor, while Ana and Chilton help her up. But the other thing I saw is what made me run towards them.

“James!?”

Ana was surprised to see run towards them, but I don’t have time to tell her, since behind them is a giant crevice getting bigger and headed straight at them.

Since I panicked, I wasn’t able to see that there was another crack beside them. So the ground where they stand became a pitfall.

But with Chilton’s quick reaction, he grabbed the two girl’s clothes and threw them at the edge with the price of him falling. But it wasn’t enough, the landing point we’re he thought would be safe was gone. The pitfall got bigger.

So I jumped in and did the same, I grabbed Ana and Abigail, threw them at the edge. But it might happen again so I called the only one whose close enough.

“Rusty!”

I wasn’t able to notice since I was concentrating with Ana and Abigail, but he was already right there behind me.

And so I did that same act as Chilton, but the only difference is that Rusty was there to catch them.

“James!!!”

I was able to hear Ana’s voice in the end, but it slowly got weaker while I, along with a man named Chilton, continue to fall into the darkest part of the cave.
