《Rise of the Vampires》Chapter 1: A New "Life"
Hey there! This is my first fiction, just so you know. Well except for some essayes I did when I was in school. And you could say that this is highly and also lightly inspired by A Vamp's Ire. The beginning is very similar, almost a complete rip of, but that is only the first and a bit of the second chapter though. After all A Vamp's Ire only has like 2 chapters at the moment, and I already wrote two chaps.
So yeah, please tell me what you think, review and all that. Also if you see any errors feel free to post them if you want. It's a bit tiresome to re read the chapters several times so I might miss some.
Also thanks for reading :)
Chapter 1: A New “Life”
The forest was quite murky. I knew these paths well, I came here quite often after all. I was in the forest right next to my home, poaching. I lived in a farm. It was just my parents, brother, sister and me. We were poor, so we couldn’t afford any farm hands. Life was a bit hard, but we managed.
My father’s right arm was limp, because a few years ago, when my sister was only five years old, she had decided to climb a tree. It’s still a mystery to us, how she managed to get up there since the branches were too high for her to reach, but somehow she managed. This tree was quite high, six meters, and she got to the top. When my mother saw this she panicked and screamed for my father. He ran out as quickly as he could. When he saw my sister shock flashed through his eyes, and he ran up to the tree. He tried to make her climb back down, saying that he would catch her if she fell, but she was too scared and stayed up there. In the end he decided to climb up after her. After some struggle, he managed to get up to her, but when he grabbed her, a strong gust of wind blew in his face and he slipped. We heard a high pitched scream and then a thump! Father had landed right on his arm, it was shattered.
We rushed him to the healer in the closest village as fast as we could on our measly horse carriage. It was a two hour trip, and father was grimacing in pain the entire way there. Luckily father was quite good friends with this old healer, they grew up together, so he didn’t charge us anything. But even then, the damage was too big. The healer managed to stop the pain and mostly heal the fractures, but he would never be able to use his arm again. This was majorly bad news for us! I was only fifteen that year and my brother was seventeen. Luckily I was often out hunting with father, and my perceptiveness was even a bit better than his, so I was a natural hunter. My brother was also pretty good at all the farm stuff, he actually liked it. This way we managed to get by, with me going poaching from time to time, making sure not to get caught, while my brother and father did all the farm work, even thou father couldn’t do as much anymore.
This was five years prior. Now I was in the Murky Forest that I had come to call it. I didn’t know its real name. I was scouring the forest for any animals. It wasn’t exactly legal for me to hunt here, but it isn’t like anyone was counting the animals. The few animals I killed every year wouldn’t be missed. I was sure of that.

All of a sudden I heard a rustle a few meters to my left. I quickly turned and my eyes flashed. I saw a big elk standing there, below a tall tree, drinking water from a small stream. It wasn’t the biggest I had ever seen, but if I could kill it, it would certainly be the biggest I ever killed. I got excited and quickly notched an arrow and took aim.
All of a sudden a cold flash went through my body and there was a bright light, illuminating my surroundings. Immediately after was went a current of immeasurable heat through my body, the pain was extreme, more than anything I had ever felt before. I watched as my arrow flew towards the elk and hit it in the neck, as I had lost hold of it, then I fell to my knees. The last thing I heard before my last bit of consciousness slipped away was a thundering boom. Then it hit me. I had been hit by lightning.
As my consciousness slipped away, I could still feel that the lightning was flashing through my body, and then the lighting gripped around a small fire in the back of my mind. As this happened I completely awoke. It was as if the lighting was keeping me awake and conscious. I let out a deep scream of immeasurable pain. I could feel that the lighting had started devouring every part of my body, even my hair, to then rebuild it rapidly, thus forming a cycle of destroying and rebuilding my body. This lasted for what seemed like an eternity.
After who knows how long the lighting finally stopped devouring my body, and instead it all gathered around that small flame in the back of my head. Then the lighting flew right into the small flame and fused with it. This caused the flame to not only grow in size, but to also turn blue and cold. The flame was now incredibly big, and equally unstable, several time bigger than my body, but it quickly shrinked in size and condensed into a much smaller flame, albeit it was still a lot larger than before. It was finally over. I was in shock. I had no idea what just happened, and my mind was spinning around. Then I finally lost consciousness and faded away.
After an unknown amount of time I finally woke up. The very moment I opened my eyes I heard a booming sound, as fear filled my heart.
“You finally awoke, my child.” A deep, yet gentle voice boomed out, generating an air of absolute power that could transcend the heavens. But the voice was so gentle that it sounded like a father meeting a son that he hadn’t seen in eternity.
I looked around, but I saw nothing. There was no one around me that could generate such a voice. In fact there was not even a single soul to be seen anywhere.
It was just me and the carcass of the elk. Then out of nowhere arrived an indistinct blurry figure, made out of a black smoke.
“I am Gebados, God of Death.”
After this one sentence, my mind was spinning as if it was a wild untameable hurricane. After a long time of silence I built up the courage to ask a single question.
“What did you do to me?”
My voice was silent and hoarse, while my eyes permeated with anxiety and fear.
“I made you into a vampire. Have you heard of them? Maybe you have, maybe not. Perhaps they have passed down in legend. They should, since they are the race that I spent countless millennia making. But alas they went extinct countless millennia ago.

They would always get exterminated. But this time my fellow brother and sister Gods have allowed me to have one child. That is you. There is only one way for my race to live again, and that is you, my child.”
He looked at me. There was an endless air of knowledge and wisdom around him as he stared into my soul with his dark blurry smoky eyes, with a look of seeing everything, that existence had to offer.
“You seem to thinking about why I chose you.”
That sentence surprised me. That was exactly what I was thinking about. He seemed to really be all seeing. Perhaps he really was the God of Death. I continued to look at his blurry figure, waiting for him to continue.
“It’s because you are a good hunter, and have a strong will. This will be crucial for your survival. Let me explain some of your newfound powers. You might have noticed that your senses have been greatly enhanced. You can hear, see and smell far better than you could before, you can even see perfectly in this darkness. You have immense strength and can run very fast. The capabilities of your body go far beyond that of a normal mortal. You will live forever, you won’t ever die from old age and poisons and diseases you shall never face again. You can also spread your race with your venom, having complete control of your offspring’s power. But actual reproduction is a bit harder. Originally vampires were not capable of reproducing, but I begged my sister, the Goddess of Life. In the end she allowed you to reproduce with the use of a spell.
But all these powers come with a cost. To sustain your power and youth, you will need to feed on the life force of others.”
At these words shock and fear appeared in my heart. I nervously asked
“I am going to need eat other people to survive?”
I looked at him with fear, waiting for an answer.
“No, you will only need to drink their blood, eating their flesh is unnecessary. But this isn’t the only drawback. You won’t be able to tolerate the sun as much. You will feel uncomfortable in the sunlight and will get sunburned easily, but it’s nothing dangerous. In the past vampires would burst into flames if they came in contact with sunlight. Now, before I leave I shall point you to a village, because you will need to satiate you thirst soon, and you will have to drain several bodies of their blood since you just transformed. One last thing. I shall transfer all the information you are going to need. Now until we meet again.”
Suddenly the blurry smoke body disappeared, and I felt a strong force blow me away in the direction of the nearest village.
I landed on a branch of a tree, I was surprised at how easily I gained my balance. Then I put some power into my legs and jumped. I flew several meters up, eventually landing on another branch. Looking around I noticed that my previous position was several dozen meters away. With one jump I had moved dozens of meters. I was amazed.
Then all of a sudden I felt a piercing hunger in my abdomen. My throat dried up as I felt a devouring thirst. My vision went red as my mind deteriorated. I needed blood! I started jumping through the trees desperately, like some wild animal, going towards the village at full speed. I kept jumping and jumping with only blood on my mind. I needed blood, and I needed it fast! After several hours passed, I finally saw the village in front of my eyes. By this point the hunger in stomach seemed as if it could devour everything in the world. I was excited, I was hungry for blood! It was as if in my eyes the biggest, most sumptuous feast I had ever seen appeared. I felt the hunger swell up to my throat, as my thirst increased ever more.
A big killing intent appeared in my mind. I wanted their blood! I wanted to devour the entire village! I watched as a few people were wandering in the village. It was the middle of the night, so most were asleep.
Suddenly my body flashed as I disappeared. Suddenly I stood next to a young woman, as shock and fear appeared on her face. I grabbed her throat and lifter her of the ground. Her body felt as heavy as a small sack of potatoes. I looked her in the eyes with a devouring hunger ever apparent in them, as I opened my mouth. Suddenly my canines grew in length.
An immeasurable hunger flashed through my eyes, as she screamed for help. I sunk my teeth into her throat, letting her blood flow through my mouth. A few seconds went past as I drained her for blood. There was not a single drop of blood left in her body, as I let go of my grip. She fell limply to the ground, dead. This was the last thing I remembered of the massacre.
When I awoke, I could see dozens of dead bodies around. Some of them were missing their heads or other limbs. It looked as if they had been tore apart. Many other were drained of blood. There were only a few people left, five in total. One of them was a pretty looking girl. She had brown hair, and plump breasts. She was wearing a simple looking dress, but still managed to look gorgeous. The moment I saw her, I realized that I wanted her. In that moment I decided that she would become the first offspring, the first step to creating a powerful clan of vampires. The other woman was middle aged. Around her were two twin girls that appeared to be around 8 years old, while the last one was an around 12 year old boy.
I looked around at the bloody mess. There were corpses everywhere, and the ground was littered in blood. I rushed in front of the beautiful girl and knocked her out. Afterwards I tied the others up, and threw them in two sacks.
I flung the two sacks on my right shoulder and took the girl onto left shoulder. Then I rushed away, into the forest, looking at the bloody scene I created one last time. It was at this moment that I accepted what I had become, and decided to embrace it.
As I was running through the forest, I was looking for a clearing or a good place to proceed with my plan. After for running around for about thirty minutes I finally found a cave. I looked at it briefly, trying to see if there was anything in there. After confirming that it was empty, I walked into it. I took my captives out of the sacks and threw them into a corner. There was a horrified expression on their faces. This cave was rather small, consisting of only one room, and was a rounded square.
I carefully put the pretty girl into a corner. Then I started searching through my mind for the information that Gebados gave me. I looked carefully about my powers. It was true that I had immense speed and strength, but apparently there were still countless people that could kill me. But my strength would be increased as I grew older, and I could also train. I also had high affinities for magic, and had high potential for spiritual powers. My body had also become more handsome and lean. I could also charm people of the opposite gender to make them do my bidding. I could turn people into vampires, as Gebados said, I could even completely control their powers.
There was also a spell innate to the mind of vampires. This spell was to be used during sexual intercourse, and would cause the female vampire to get pregnant. It only worked on a vampire, you couldn’t use it on humans, and it was also the only method for vampires to reproduce.
As I had spent a while going through my newfound powers, the girl finally woke up. She stared at me with an empty look in her eyes, as if she didn’t know what was going on. But then suddenly that empty look was filled with fear and hate, as she had realized what situation she was in. But she didn’t scream, like that first girl I drained of blood, or all the other countless people I had killed in the village.
“You’re finally awake. Don’t worry, you’re not in danger, I won’t harm you.”
I said to her with a gentle tone, as to reassure her. She still had a look of fear and hate in her eyes. I continued.
“You don’t need to worry. I am going to give you a gift. The gift of eternal life. Now relax.”
I said to her in the same gentle tone, as I crouched down next to her and caressed her cheek. Then I gave her a kiss on her neck as my teeth sank into her flesh. I felt her tasty blood flow down my throat, as her body was being rapidly drained of blood. When there was only a small amount of blood left, I stopped. I then made some of my venom flow into her wound. Using my magical energy I configured her powers. I made her very fast, almost as fast as myself. Her strength should also be high, if she was to fight beside me. I also made her very capable of seducing men. I didn’t need to make any changes to her senses or longevity, as all vampire were immortal and had very good senses.
After making these changes I felt tired. Very tired. It was as if all the energy in body was gone. I knew what this was. In my mind there was an introduction to magic, so I knew of the existence of mana. Mana was the energy that was used to fuel magic. Not everyone had any mana, only a few were born with it, but anyone could get it through practising and training. I had to use my both my mana and my blood essence when I made a vampire, and the more powerful I made them, the more it would cost. As I had made he girl very powerful, the cost was enormous, much more so than I had expected.
The girl was now unconscious again. I sat next to her waiting and recovering my energy, while the captives looked at me with horrified expressions. They had heard what I said, so they knew that the girl they had known for a long time would now become a monster.
After waiting for a while the girl finally woke up.
“Welcome to the unlife.”
I said with the ever same gentle tone, as I looked at her affectionately. My first family member had been born.

Of Gods and Dungeons
March 16, 2021 - Hiatus note: I will come back to this story! I'm really struggling with it, though. It's been a number of years and I kind of forgot what the original outline was. I still remember the main path, but not any of the details, because I stupidly didn't write an outline. Progress is being made. I'd like a very decent sized buffer before I start posting again. Don't want to get hopes up only to immediately disappoint! ----- Amy Barnes, an aspiring chemical researcher, finds herself dying from cancer. One of her most desperate prayers is answered in a way that she'd never dreamed possible, and she finds herself living a new life as a dungeon. Warning: Violence, morbidity Cover: Taken from here, courtesy of www.pexels.com by photographer @tookapic. Author's Note: I've read some dungeon core stories on here, and they've tickled my fancy. I've thought up a whole story, start to finish, and thought it'd be a blast to put it into words. Other than the violent and morbid aspects, this story is suitable for children. Aside from the vocabulary, that is. I will avoid the temptation to have any cursing, sexuality, or gore. Excessive gore, I suppose - it is a dungeon story, after all. I’ll do a little research from time to time, but this story will not have a great deal of rigor. I’ve made Amy’s knowledge comparable to my own for that reason. There’s a few things she knows more about than I do, and a few things that she knows less about. Unlike me, she doesn’t have access to Google - it’s a non issue for her to be more knowledgeable than me, on occasion :P This story does not use the same magic system that I’ve used in either Sorcery in Boston or A Summoner’s Confession. This one is mostly intention based, and designed to be easier access for people who are more used to the idea of, “It’s magic, therefore it works” kind of thinking. Do note that Amy is, in most senses of the term, overpowered. This goes along with the usual dungeon core stories. She’s not more powerful than other dungeons per se, but she does have knowledge and intelligence that puts them to shame. I thought about doing this in a LitRPG style, but systems take balance, and I wanted this to be pure fun to write. This story was inspired from a few sources. Despite the title, it wasn’t really inspired by Of Mice and Men, though some of the themes match. Rather, I’ve taken inspiration from a few dungeon core novels on Royal Road Legends for the main idea. Many conventions of dungeon core stories have been perverted from the genre, however. I’ve taken my usual science-loving self to town to play around with the powers, and I can only hope you have half as much fun reading this as I have had writing it.

But is this power and technology really for him to keep? If you are enjoying my novel, this is a link for my new novel : Magical Cosmic --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a Science Fantasy story where technology will eventually change the civilization. A lot of Kingdom Building will be here as it will be. Despite the Kingdom Building, the MC won't be sitting in one place only. Although there is Comedy and Romance here and there, it wasn't the main focus of the story. The Harem tag in the story didn't mean a lot of bland 2D girl as even the first female MC was shown at chapter 21. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- P.S. The cover is only temporary
8 206Divine Progress
Progress is a dubious god. After failing him, three people are banished from modern times and sent to another world. Seemingly out of place, Christoph is snatched from his own time and plunged into a world of violence and magic with no deity to lend him support. Instead, Progress has seen fit to curse him with an eternal hunger for magical energy. Branded as a demon, he must fight for survival while battling the servants of the god who sent him there, struggling against the 'gift' that Progress bestowed upon him and the past he sought to abandon. Can he make his way across the lands and gather enough strength to survive without the blessings of the Divine? Or will the gods bend him to their will, breaking him if he seeks to resist? This is not a short story, and the plot will take many twists and turns before Christoph's journey comes to a close. After all, it is not the destination, but the Progress that matters in the end. Like many other stories on RoyalRoad, this is my first piece. Feedback is more than welcome, so please leave a reply if you have a comment or question.
