《Young Adversary》3rd Adversary: Decision

A few hours after Tia had come to the human realm.
“Hahahaha!”
Joyful laughs were coming from her room. Inside, she and Momo both had red faces while they talked with an intoxicated tone.
“Did King Arthur really tricked Alexander the Great out of half of his wealth?”
Momo asked.
Tia nodded.
“He did. Alex refuses to talk about it, but I heard that Arthur sold him a fake treasure and told him that it would grant his army invincible strength.”
She said.
“Well, he eventually gave it back and they made up, but it’s still funny every time I remember Alex’s embarrassed face.”
She started laughing.
“I’m surprised though. I thought Arthur Pendragon was a noble person. Who would expect him to actually deceive someone.”
Said Momo.
“Arthur indeed is an honorable man, but he also had to change from his naïve self to survive back then.”
“I see. It must’ve been really tough.”
“It was. A lot of senseless fighting and killing and we still couldn’t decide a winner.”
Tia sighed.
“Gods, Demons, beasts, and heroes huh? Basically anything that has ties to a myth that was widely believed in was in this war. Time even flows differently on earth and this world, so more and more mythical figures kept popping up over the years. It was a complete mess."
“Earth is the name of the world that mirrors ours, right? I learnt about it from Gramps.”
Momo said.
“Yeah. You can say that it’s the birthplace of us Higher Beings. Well, we can’t interfere with it any longer. The most troublesome of those who came near the end of the war was the Cthulhu Mythos. They were honestly disgusting and hard to deal with.”
Tia said.
“Anyway, the war was horrible and the Proxy war isn’t much better. In fact, I’ve never liked this system.”
“Why?”
“Because it will only prolong the war. If we, Higher Beings couldn’t decide a winner, how can mortals?”
She said.
“Anyway, what’s done is done. There’s no use crying over it.”
She shrugged.
“I’m more concerned with when will Miko stop being stubborn and accept my offer.”
“I don’t think he will ever accept your offer.”
Momo said.
“No, he will.”
Tia responded.
“As someone close to him you should know what his goal is.”
“To be a koala?”
Tia laughed.
“No, I mean his real goal.”
Momo looked confused.
“Oh? You didn’t know?”
Tia was a bit surprised, but still smiled.
“You see, his goal is….”
Elsewhere.
After leaving the ceremony room, Miko was walking around aimlessly. After a while, he decided to leave the city and return to where Momo had come to get him. Like before, he sat on a tree branch and had his back braced against the trunk.
“Become her Proxy? Hmph, she’s gotta be out of her mind. Why would I do something like that?”
He said while keeping his eyes closed.
“I have no desires, no ambition, this war has nothing to do with me.”
(You’re lying.)
At that moment, a silhouette that looked exactly like him stood in front of him.
“Tsk.”
Miko clicked his tongue when he opened his eyes and saw the silhouette.
“What do you want?”
Miko asked.
(You know what.)
Answered the silhouette.
(Take Tiamat’s offer, and become a Proxy. If you do, our dreams might come through.)
“Dreams? I’ve discarded them a long time ago.”
Miko responded.
(Is that so?)

A creepy smile appeared on the silhouette’s face.
(Then would you like to revisit the past?)
The moment it said that, Miko’s consciousness faded.
15 years ago, a child was born to the Primus branch of the Dragna Clan. This child had caused nightmarish events to occur one after the other. This child went on to receive various terrifying nicknames, and was treated like a plague by everyone around him.
This child was Gamiko Dragna the Third, aka Miko.
When he was 6, a young Miko started showing traits of a rare genius as he easily grasp things that was supposed to be hard for children his age. He also possessed superior physical abilities to match with his mental superiority.
Miko was an once in a century talent. This became common knowledge in no time.
Seeing his talents, the young Miko was expectedly overjoyed.
“With this everyone won’t look at me scorn anymore!”
That’s what he thought.
“I guess a monster really is a monster.”
“Huh?”
However, life wasn’t that easy. Instead of praises, the only thing Miko heard was the hateful comments of those around him.
“Damn, the monster looks like he’s going to be strong.”
“Isn’t this bad? Won’t he become a danger to the world?”
“Maybe we should kill him while we can?”
“I agree. There’s no telling what he’ll do. It better to kill the abomination now.”
Naturally such comments came as a shock to the young Miko, who just thought that his life would change for the better. These words crushed all his hope in an instant.
“Don’t worry, Miko.”
It was then that his parents came to console him. His father patted his head tenderly, while his mother smiled at him beautifully.
“No matter what they say, don’t let it get to you. Mama and papa will always be on your side. So keep doing your best.”
His mother said to him.
These words were like a lifeboat to Miko who was sinking into a sea of depression.
“Yes! I’ll keep do my best!”
He said with a genuine smile.
Like he promised, Miko worked hard to make his parents happy and gain the recognition of those around him. However, no matter what he did the result was the same.
“It’s that damn monster again.”
“Every time he takes first place, its pissing me off.”
“Don’t you think it’s unfair that we’re competing with something like that?”
“Why don’t they put him somewhere by himself? Why do I have to console my children every time he shatters their dreams?”
“Did you hear? He broke his sparring partner’s arm yesterday, and said that it was an accident.”
“I bet he did it intentionally.”
“Such a heartless brute.”
Instead of improving their views of him, Miko just kept looking more and more like an abomination in their eyes.
Even with his family encouraging him, he still couldn’t stop himself from feeling despair.
Even so, he would always bounce back by declaring his goal.
“I’ll become stronger than anyone else! So strong that the world will have no choice but to acknowledge me!”
He would shout with tears flowing down his cheeks.
So he kept working and working, ignoring the negative comments and continuing pushing forward with his head high. However, oblivious to it, he was destroying himself.
The stress from the treatment he got from everyone around him, slowly but surely weighed down on his heart and soul. The young Miko was on a path to self destruction.

His was when he was 10 that everything came crashing down on him.
It was late at night and Miko had survived his third assassination attempt for the week. He was walking inside his home, when he heard someone’s crying voice.
“Hm?”
Curious to see who the voice belong to, Miko followed the voice and found out that it came from his parents room.
“I can’t take it anymore! This is the third one this week, and seventh one this month! Miko came so close to dying today that my heart stopped when I was able to make it in time!”
He recognized the crying voice as his mother’s. He stopped by the door shocked, because this was the first time he can remember his mother crying.
“Why, why do people hate my son so much?! He hasn’t done anything to hurt anyone, but they all keep trying to hurt him!”
She said.
“Calm down, Sasha. I’m frustrated too, but we have to keep our heads. If we don’t, how will Miko react?”
He heard his father’s voice.
“Don’t you get it, Leon?! That child is on the verge of collapsing!”
His mother said.
“After I saved him today, do you know what he said when I asked him if he was alright?”
She paused before saying-
“I was only about to get stabbed in the chest, it’s no big deal. That’s not something a child is supposed to say with a smile!”
Her crying could be heard again.
“Miko is beginning to believe that it’s normal for everyone to hate him to the point of wanting to kill him! How can I stay calm after realizing that my son don’t value his life at all!”
“Even so, we must keep calm.”
His father said.
“Leon, how can you convince me to keep calm when you yourself look like your planning on killing everyone in a fit of rage?”
His mother asked.
“I’m fed up of killing everyone that badmouths or harms Miko. It just seem like it won’t end.”
Her sobbing reached Miko’s ears again. It made his body tremble.
“Sometimes I wonder if this is all my fault and if the gods are punishing me by trying to take my child away.”
She said.
“Miko is a cute child that doesn’t even get mad when people try to harm him. How can someone hate him to the point of wanting to kill him? This must be my punishment.”
His mother no longer talked, only sobs could be heard coming from her.
“Big brother.”
At that moment, Miko saw his siblings coming towards him.
“What’s wrong?”
Asked his little sister.
“Is mama upset?”
His little brother asked.
“It’s nothing. Go back to bed.”
Miko told them with a smile.
That same night, he sneaked out of the house and went for a walk into the city.
“I heard that that monster was almost killed again today.”
“Really? How many times does that make it that week?”
“I think the royal family should just get the drift and kill him.”
“Yeah, I can’t sleep knowing that a monster like that exist in the city.”
He soon came across some people talking badly about him.
“But still, I heard that his mother was able to save him in time and kill his attackers.”
“Tsk! She should just let him die. Hell, she should die with him. She brought that abomination in the worl-”
The man was unable to finished what he was saying.
“Ahhh?!”
His friends screamed out in terror when they saw that a hand had pierced through his neck.
“Keh! Keh!”
The man started choking on his own blood with a painful look on his face.
“I don’t really care about what others say about me, but the fact that people like you made my mother cry and my father angry, is unforgivable.”
The moonlight shone down and revealed Miko’s face.
“Miko?!”
When the men saw Miko’s emotionless face, they all screamed. His eyes were unbelievably cold. They were black instead of their usual blue.
“All of you will die here.”
He said after completely severing the man’s head from his body.
“That’s one.”
After he said that Miko rushed towards the men and started ripping them limb from limb. Their screams echoed through the city.
After a few minutes, Miko was seen walking down the streets leaving bloody footsteps behind him.
“I will become stronger than anyone so that everyone will acknowledge me?”
He started laughing.
“What a foolish person I am. Such a dream is worthless.”
His body started to be covered by a dark mist. Soon, he didn’t look human at all. He looked like a black beast with red bloody eyes.
“I have a new dream.”
He leaped into the air and shouted with a beastly voice.
“I will slaughter every single person that made my mother cry in this cursed world! After that I’ll turn my attention to the heavens and kill them all!”
He roared.
“If my existence is a punishment to my family, then I’ll punish the heavens in return!”
“…….”
Miko’s consciousness returned and he looked the silhouette in front of him.
(In the end, we were stopped by our grandfather, who convince us to abandon the idea of slaughtering everyone in the world. After that, we gave up on everything and decided to live peacefully away from everyone else.)
Said the silhouette.
(However, we’ve never forgotten the wrath we felt back then.)
The silhouette approached him.
(Now we have the chance to have our revenge.)
“I don’t care.”
Miko said.
“Don’t you know that revenge plots are so played out that its now considered a turn off?”
He said while crossing his arms behind his head to use them as a pillow.
“But I admit that I’m still angry about the whole cursed child thing.”
He smiled.
“Also that flashback not only reminded me of my anger but my childhood dream. Now, because of that I can’t keep calm any more. My cold blood is boiling again.”
(Then, are we going to accept her offer?)
The silhouette asked.
“Yeah, but our goal won’t be revenge or acceptance.”
Miko grinned.
“It’s peace. I'm not talking about world peace, I'm talking about me living a peaceful life with my love ones. And for that, I need strength. So much strength that I can do as I want.”
(Oh?)
Miko continued.
“My flashback made me realize that everything that happened to me is because I’m not strong enough.”
He said.
“If I was strong enough, no one would dare try to kill me as much as they did, then my mother wouldn’t have cried that much. If I was strong I wouldn’t have to ignore everyone’s scorn, they’ll be too afraid to even think about it.”
(If we were strong enough, we could live a peaceful life without a single worry in the world.)
Said the silhouette.
“Only one person won’t have to worry about any of this.”
(The Supreme Being.)
At that moment the silhouette disappeared and a holy light appeared on front of Miko. From it came, Tia who had a smile on her face.
“Looks like you’ve made your decision.”
She said.
Miko nodded and then said-
“I’ll be your Proxy, but I won’t fight to make you the Supreme Being.”
He pointed at himself.
“I will become the Supreme Being and rule over all for myself and those I care about. The rest of the world can burn for all I care. Hell, I might burn it down myself.”
Tia laughed.
“As long as the stupid war ends, I don’t care. But if I had to choose, I prefer you being the Supreme Being than anyone else.”
She stretched her hand out to him.
“…….”
Miko looked at it for a while before grasping it. He then felt Tia pulling him up and making him stand before her.
“In return for granting you my power, you will bring an end to this war. Do we have a deal?”
Tia asked.
Miko nodded.
“Then let’s seal the Proxy Contract here.”
A giant magic circle with the symbol of a dragon rising out of the sea, appeared and covered the entire empire.
“?!”
Various higher beings around the world react to the appearance of this seal at the same time.
“Tiamat? She chose a Proxy?”
Smiles appeared on the faces of these Higher Beings.
“Interesting! Let’s see what she and her Proxy can do!”
Meanwhile, Miko looked at the golden seal with surprise.
“Gamiko Dragna the Third, do you promise to fight in my honor and win me, no you the throne of supremacy?”
Tia voiced echoed across the land.
“I do.”
Miko responded.
“What do you wish for?”
Miko smiled and spoke loudly.
“Domination!”
Tia nodded, and the seal turned into light and shot into Miko’s and Tia’s body. Immediately after, a gold chain appeared and linked the two together. The chain disappeared and a dragon’s roar came from inside Miko’s body.
“Congratulations, Miko.”
Tia smiled at him.
“You’re now a Proxy.”
