《Chronicles of Sora: Ruler of Rules》Chapter 26.1 - Hour of Darkness (Part 1)

Sora’s POV
I stared at the Devil and the Devil stared at me.
This might feel like déjà vu but it isn’t. The difference being that my feet are no longer in the air but on the ground. I dare not move, is he going to kill me?
“I did say you are free to go.” The Devil said as he placed his rapier back into its thin sheath.
I continued to stand as still as possible. The display of power that I witnessed had me completely frightened.
Why is he saying I am free to go?
“You are no good.” The Devil said as he assessed the vicinity. Nobody had stepped out of their houses even though an entire inn blew up. The lock down was completely effective. Other than the glowing flames amongst the debris there was no other source of light.
The rain had long stopped, I didn’t even know when it stopped since I was so busy getting to the Blue Rose Inn and catching up with the others...
The Devil completely nullified his blood lust; his presence completely diminished.
I would not have known there was another person standing next to me if I didn’t already have my eye on him; that is how perfect the Devil’s stealth mode was.
“I am no good?” I ask. I am curious. What does he mean I am no good? No good as a bait? Since I now ordered the Abbe and others to run away, am I no good as bait? Why am I no good? I really don’t want to know…just getting the conversation moving…
“As you are … you are no good and of no use to me.” The Devil said.
I should be happy right? The Devil just said I am of no use to him….then why the heck do I feel so annoyed?

I am really stupid…I am feeling annoyed? Against whom? The Devil? The monster just killed two of his kind in one blow….but I need to know….what use….what does he want from me….I simply can’t trust him. I turn my back and he kills me…never trust the Devil….Devils are truly bad news.
“Why?” That is the embodiment of my articulation skills…I feel like slapping my forehead.
The Devil stared at me. He wasn’t smiling nor was he angry. It seems he lost his interest in me.
“Cause as you are, you will simply die, be it in the Empire or outside….it is not worth my time and effort to kill you.”
So he is not going to kill me because I am adventurer or an enemy rather I am not worthy enough of an opponent. To him I am some mere insect on the ground….somehow while my rationale side of my brain is telling me to celebrate; the egoistic side of my brain wants me to correct him. I have my own pride…well I am not stupid to challenge the Devil, but I do have my pride….
“You will regret those words…”
The Devil shot me a cold stare. A cold stare that looked like as if he had read my mind and knew that I had threatened him…wait aren’t I guarding my mind…wait…DID I JUST SAY THAT OUT LOUD???
ARGH!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!! I SHOULDN’T CARE IF HE TRAMPLES MY PRIDE AND EGO. I RATHER BE A FREAKING LIVING DOORMAT THAN A DEAD MAN!!
“Then maybe I should just kill you right now…” The Devil said as he went for his rapier.
“I didn’t mean that…” Last minute ditch attempt to save myself. “However, if you underestimate me next time, it might not go so well.”

I barely managed to say the last bit of the sentence as the rapier’s sharp and pointy edge pressed against below my jaw.
My eyes were shut. Please don’t kill me!
“Heh..”
His tone upset me further. I don’t know why but I opened by mouth again. “I don’t see what’s so funny, from what I can tell you were owned today. My Guardians certainly aren’t the strongest but you can’t be either since you took a beating from them.”
He still had to wipe the blood of his forehead. His attire was a complete mess. I am guessing here that my Guardians' were responsible for all this.
Take that for a comeback. I might not win against you physically but I can fight and win against you verbally.
Now, I might as well say my last rites prayers.
He is so certainly going to kill me.
I should have just shut my mouth.
I don’t think the Devil found me funny.
Good bye sweet world - I will forever remember the fun I had. Good bye...
The Devil moved his hand into his waist coat to grab something. I flinched.
It happened so fast but he threw something on the ground.
I jumped in fright to dodge. It was big object. Thrown poorly and purposefully on the ground.
“Here keep it..” The Devil said with a smirk.
When I looked down at the object…it was the Abbe’s head.

There is no Epic Loot here, Only Puns.
She became a dungeon core. Everything pointed Delta to murdering her way to success. People were just mana farms, right? No, that was wrong. Delta refused. Then everything became odd.
8 402Valkyrie's Shadow
In the wake of the Battle of Katze Plains, the banner of Ainz Ooal Gown flies proudly over the city of E-Rantel. The Sorcerous Kingdom has entered the world’s stage to the clamour of death and devastation; the surrounding nations fearfully prepare even as they reel from its calamitous debut. Within the borders of the newly annexed realm, its Human subjects cower in their homes as the Undead openly walk the streets and stalk the lands. Yet, when a destitute noble finds herself under the auspices of an unlikely benefactor, events are set into motion that will resound over the world for ages to come. A kingdom builder based on the events and setting of Kugane Maruyama’s Overlord. In a fantasy world where beings of matchless power are transmigrated from the arbitrary existence of a game, Valkyrie’s Shadow chronicles the lives of the natives whose reality has been turned upside down by their advent. It is the tale of a nation created by the whims of a supreme sovereign, and his unstoppable servants who each have their own, often twisted, interpretations of their Master’s Will. There is no victory in strength; no miracles wrought from magic that will save them: only the inexorable advance of a new world order where those who secure a place of service within will find themselves turned against the world that they once knew. [Slow buildup. Methodical storytelling with a focus on well-rounded kingdom building and character development.]
8 402Paths of the Chosen (Rewritten, Revised, and Reinvigorated)
Daniel Stewart was chosen to alpha test a brand new Immersive VR game, "The Realms". What he doesn't know is that he has also been Chosen by one of the Powers of a far-off world, and is now a pawn in a game much bigger than any he thought he would ever participate in. Will he survive and thrive in this strange new world, or will he stumble and fall, shattered by the ambitions of another? Does he have what it takes to walk the Paths of the Chosen?---Inspired by the Chaos Seeds novels, TheDespaxas's The Gamer, and a wide variety of games and books, although the world, characters, and systems are my own. Expect high fantasy, magic, combat and intrigue, love and loss, grief and passion. This story is intended for adult audiences and contains explicit sexual content, profanity, and violence (including sexual violence, although not by the protagonist and not as a focus of the story). Chapters with such content will be clearly marked, and all explicit sexual content will be behind spoiler tags. I prefer my stories to have happy endings, and especially in these uncertain times, I feel that it is important to maintain hope. While this tale will reach some dark places, I promise to you that, when all is said and done, the villains will be justly punished and the heroes will prevail and prosper. Remember: it is darkest before dawn, but dawn always comes. Please note also that although this story does not have the [Harem] tag, it does have an extremely slow build into a polyamorous relationship. Additionally, starting with Champion (book two of the series), the [Multiple Lead Characters], [Female Lead], and [Non-Human Lead] tags would also apply to varying degrees. This is a complete, ground-up rewrite of the original Paths of the Chosen, following feedback from here and elsewhere. It is now written in the third-person limited omniscient perspective and in the past tense. In addition, while the major plot beats are unchanged, most of what comes between them has been reconsidered and rewritten, with pacing and characterization as a special focus.---Update schedule: 2 chapters per week (Monday and Thursday), not counting bonus chapters. Chapter length is roughly 2,500 words on average, +/- 1,000 words. Chapters with explicit content tend to be longer so that they are still worth reading for those who would prefer a fade to black. --- Cover art by Agri Karuniawan (@artofagri). 8 183Accidentally Smithing
Nik's life has been boring for the last couple of years. His engineering degree progresses adequately, he had some friends but not too many. Disappointed by the class {smith} assigned to him, with no knowledge about smithing or ore refining, he needs to survive in a hostile environment. Join Nik on his journey to survive in a world outside his comfort zone. -------------------------------------------------------- Crafting begins in the early tens. I am aware that some of the prose could be improved upon in the early chapters. I am working on redoing that right now!! It should get better around chapter 10. -------------------------------------------------------- I plan on releasing one chapter per week, this is not guaranteed since uni takes priority number 1.

8 54[Don't] Fear the Dragon!
Do yourself a favour and, if the chance to become a dragon in a different world ever arrives, reject it as kindly as possible. As for myself? I didn't have much say in the matter. I've wanted one thing, and one thing alone in this life—to be left alone. But these humans are beyond stereotypical. None of the other dragons let them in on the secret that we only hoard treasure in order to bait the fools. Or how it's a common belief that we eat humans for breakfast. Seriously! Not even a village would substitute as a snack. How do they think people taste anyway? Gross! But it doesn't matter if you hide away in your cave, doing nothing. Some hero is bound to find and attempt to slay you anyways. Or weird cultists offering sacrifices at your door. But there was this princess that asked me to kidnap her one time. Now that was an interesting one... [Updated daily at 11 PM | EST!]
