《Chronicles of Sora: Ruler of Rules》Chapter 18.1 - Guilt

Soldiers quickly moved in to secure the hostage. They didn’t want any more casualties than needed.

The warrior’s code was grilled deep into their mind. Taking the life of someone who surrendered left a bad after taste in their mouth. Although it was the commander’s decision and the sniper took the hit, they still functioned as one unit and felt equally responsible for their commander’s decision.

A soldier hurried as he carried the traumatized store keeper away. Sora wouldn’t learn about it this…but the store owner suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder due to the hostage situation and was never able to cook again.

As the soldier carried away the unconscious storekeeper he noticed that there were still electrical sparks coiling around the burnt body of the criminal. The man stopped for a second and watched. He had seen this move plenty of times….but never this phenomena….there was also no pungent odour of burnt flesh….there was the charred aroma of burnt clothes….but nothing more than that….it was definitely strange…the shot did definitely hit the target….the target his flat out on his chest….he isn’t exactly conscious… ‘I must be over thinking…’ With that he moved on and removed the store keeper.

Other soldiers rushed past him, their swords were drawn….it was time to face the Abbe. The person they came for….

“Master…” The Abbe walked out of the store in shock.

The soldier’s didn’t even have a chance to rush in to drag him…he walked out on his own.

He was completely defenceless…unarmed and white as a sheet.

“Sora-sama wake up!” He cried out. This had to be a horrible mistake….Sora-sama was the brilliant tactician…the genius he could never comprehend….the one who knows how everything unfolds….the master who never estimated the world….

“MASTER WAKE UP!” The Abbe cried out. He was distressed and the sight of an old man asking the dead to wake up became unsightly.

The soldiers were confused, were they chasing a deadly spy? Or a simpleton?

The old man was rumoured to be the greatest spy of all times….yet here he is….displaying his raw emotions.

The Abbe had tears in his eyes as he walked towards the corpse of Sora.

The soldiers however stood between him….even though they felt guilty about killing Sora, they weren’t in a position to let the Abbe do as he please.

“Abbe Faria, you are being arrested under suspicions of high treason.”

“AAAAA!” The Abbe screamed out as he launched a fireball at the soliders.

“COME FORTH DIVINE SHIELD” A soldier shouted to protect the group.

Some were faster and chose to dodge.

The Abbe was going crazy…this wasn’t how it was supposed to be…

Abbe walked past the group of soldiers, completely ignoring the probable danger the posed and walked closer to Sora’s corpse….”GET UP SORA-SAMA!” He shouted again.

Vanessa…no everyone saw everything unfold. There was an old man grieving the loss of his master. They felt cheated. The Erito force felt that they had cheated….they felt that they were the villains in the picture…even though they really were not.

Vanessa decided to bring a halt to the melodrama. “Knock him out” She shouted while growing frustrated. She didn’t think the Abbe would behave like this.

Sebastian looked at Sora one last time before leaving the scene. ‘In the end….it wasn’t the greatest show….I feel somewhat betrayed….I guess he really wasn’t the one…how boring…’

As six soldiers tried began to advance towards the Abbe.

The Abbe was now kneeling over Sora’s corpse. “Wake up! I beg you…..” The old man tearfully begged the corpse. He had been so convinced that Sora was a brilliant person….that it never crossed his mind….his imagination that his master could be killed so easily.

The Abbe tried shaking Sora’s body to wake him up however he quickly retracted his arm as soon as he touched him. The Abbe stopped crying….his expressions were frozen….the corpse was overflowing with current…he couldn’t even touch his master….

“IS THIS YOUR WARRIOR’S HONOUR?” The Abbe shouted as he looked at the approaching. “IS THIS WHAT THE EMPIRE HAS TAUGHT YOU? KILL A MAN WHO HAS SURRENDERED?”

The Abbe was simply rabbling like a mad man.

The Abbe’s words stung and the soldiers look at Vanessa for an answer.

Vanessa’s frustrations grew. She could feel the glare of her soldiers. It wasn’t a glare that blamed her but it was one asking her if her decision was the right one….

A soldier placed his arm on the Abbe’s shoulder to hold him down and another cuffed the emotionally weakened Abbe’s arm.

“Mana Drain!” The soldiers shouted as the Abbe’s shouting and blaming was replaced with sobbing.

The Abbe felt like a fool for believing that his master was brilliant….in the end the Abbe blamed himself for losing his master. He over estimated Sora’s ability. If he thought about it, Sora was still new to the world. He knew barely anything about magic….about history…or culture….it would be impossible for him to know how the Erito forces would react if he surrenders….death was the only answer….the Abbe realized he had been foolish enough to believe in any other outcome for that situation….

The Abbe stayed motionless….as he was being drained of his mana. He had no intention to resist...that is till he noticed Sora’s finger move a little....
