《Sometime in Autumn: A Fallen Noble’s Journey to Immortality》61 Devil Dao Cultivators

“Oftentimes in war, in order to win, it only takes an attack against the enemy’s own strategy.”
Not long after Qai’s group crossed the river, Guan Yijian—with his Spiritual Sense of a late Foundation Establishment stage—somewhat felt a sense of danger.
In fact, it wasn't actually too far from their region with barely a few miles of travel since they left.
“Brother Feng.. Junior disciple Qai! There are about 7 Foundation Establishment stage cultivators ahead. And they don't seem to be from the Scarlet Feather Sect.”
“So an ambush is prepared for us ahead.”
Unknown to Guan Yijian and Ling Feng, Qai had already noticed them as well. He just didn't reveal it outright in order for his seniors not to be suspicious of him.
“Seems like it. If the Broken Moon Clan has already infiltrated up to this point, then it looks like the situation is even more dire than we imagined.”
Guan Yijian immediately pulled out an empty Jade slip and threw in the direction of Bai Clan after pouring some pieces of information in it.
“They have already discovered us so we could only fight our way through. Junior Qai, I can see that your abilities can take on an early Foundation Establishment stage cultivator, but you still best be careful.”
Qai respectfully nodded as he replied to Guan Yijian’s warning.
He was initially warry of his seniors in this journey—but it seemed that in the face of an enemy during the war, there was still some sort of harmonious treatment among fellow sect disciples.
“Brothers, let's not hold back. Our families and friends back in the region would be in great danger if we fail this mission.”
After he said that, Guan Yijian also summoned a faceless puppet comparable to a late Foundation Establishment stage cultivator.
Lin Feng and Qai saw how serious Guan Yijian was so they did not plan to hold back either.
Lin Feng for his part, flicked his hand and a huge treasure shield appeared swirling around him.
Qai knew that the enemies might have some bizarre abilities or must have prepared some Array formations in advance so he was not the one to let off his guard.

He murmured for a moment and his Cornelia Sphere Shield appeared instantly surrounding his body.
In total, with their 3 Spirit Beasts and the faceless puppet, there were at least 7 on their side—the same amount of fighting strength as the enemy.
“My falcon has the advantage in the sky, we’ll grab that opportunity to attack the enemy on two sides.”
The group soon approached the area where the enemies were hiding.
To their surprise, the enemies revealed themselves and completely wore two different sets of robes.
One of which belonged to Broken Moon Sect while the other was unfamiliar to them.
In truth, it was not the unfamiliarity with the robes that surprised them but the appearance and aura of cultivators wearing the unfamiliar robes.
“So the rumors that you, Broken Moon Sect traitors, are backed by a mysterious sect is true. But I didn't expect it to be cultivators of the Devil Dao path. Do you think, having their help would bring benefits to you?”
It was Guan Yijian who instigated.
He was quite informed about the reasons behind the conflict. But was appalled by what he found.
While there were millions of cultivation techniques available in the immortal world, the path to Immortal Dao, in general, maybe categorized into two—the Righteous Dao and Devil Dao paths.
Devil Dao techniques possessed uncanny means and method—most of them were wicked. And that was why they were deemed ‘devilish.’
Qai spread his own Spiritual Sense and sized up the enemies.
Among the 7 enemies, only 3 were actually Devil Dao cultivators—1 in the late while 2 in mid Foundation Establishment stages. On the other hand, the rest belonged to the Broken Moon Sect.
“There’s no need for you, Precious Trees Sect’s ants, to give an opinion on what we do. Besides all of you were about to die a dog’s death right here, so what’s the use of knowing about the identity of our benefactors.”
“Then let's see who's the one about to die.”
It was Qai.
On the surface, based on the cultivation level alone, Qai appeared to be the weakest. But even then, after Guan Yijian spoke, Qai was unexpectedly the first to attack.

Apparently, he grabbed the opportunity while the enemy's guards were down. At the same time, he wanted to test his Intent ability against a late Foundation Establishment foe.
‘Meteor Slash.’
In an instant, a visible Intent in the form of huge silver-colored Guandao appeared above Qai hurling towards a late Foundation Establishment stage Devil Dao cultivator in a speed of light.
“Nooo!”
Booom!
The target was definitely not prepared as his head fell off the ground with its eyes wide open from shock. Thereafter his headless body dropped lifeless like a doll.
Thud.
Qai’s eyes was wide in excitement, he didn't expect that he could instantly kill his target.
The enemies’ jaws dropped.
Even Guan Yijian and Lin Feng were stunned at the sight of the fallen victim at Qai’s powerful sneak attack.
Initially, the enemies seemed confident that they could overpower the Precious Tree Sect disciples. But with one of them dead, all of a sudden the tides of the battle evidently turned.
“Bastards!”
“Is this what you ‘Righteous’ followers are capable of!?”
“Shameless!”
Obviously, the enemies were furious about what Qai did.
And worse, the one who died was a late Foundation Establishment stage cultivator.
“Hah, you’re the one to talk. You plotted this war, and here you are, crying for foul just because we killed one of you off-guard. Who told him to be this weak dying by the hands of our sect’s junior. What a trash!”
If it were just a battle with sharp tongues, Lin Feng would not allow himself to be outdone.
Unfortunately, Qai could not allow the Queen Ant, which seemed to like the taste of dead cultivators, to gobble up the dead Devil Dao cultivator—otherwise, it would add more insult to the enemy once they saw their companion’s body eaten up whole.
Guan Yijiang on the other hand took that as an opportunity to command his Falcon to fly and attack from above.
“Go!”
Thereafter, each of them instantly faced one enemy.
But with the Spirit Beast Falcon hovering above—consequently unblocked—then Qai and his group would definitely gain the advantage.
Knowing this, the Broken Moon Sect disciples panicked and were forced to back down.
“Quick, activate the formation.”
Unfortunately, Qai and his group were already aware of such strategy so they immediately turned into the offensive and kept each enemy occupied.
They obviously didn't allow the enemy to push through with their designs.
Soon varying abilities and effects of different treasures flared without stop—and a huge spiritual Qi energy fluctuated in the area like fireworks.
Booom.
Baam. Baam.
Sadly for Qai, he couldn't employ his Intent ability efficiently for another time.
His fated opponent—an early Foundation Establishment stage disciple of the Broken Moon Sect—was apparently on guard of it.
The enemy actually patched a defensive talisman on his chest obviously to defend from Qai’s unexpectedly powerful ‘Meteor Slash,’ and also summoned a large cauldron.
‘Raging Bison.’
‘Sky Piercing Dart.’
Woosh.
Baam.
Upon incantation, the large cauldron miraculously gobbled up the spiritual Qi energy in Qai’s attacks.
‘What a defensive treasure!’
Even with such treasure, in Qai’s mind, his enemy was still unlucky since he still had other methods to surprise the other.
‘If abilities won't work, how about knight skills.’
Qai immediately closed in with his ‘Shadow Steps’ and instantly unleashed his ever-reliable knight skills.
‘Nightfall!’
Baam. Baam.
The enemy’s large cauldron struggled to absorb a purely physical attack. He was about to summon it back, but Qai once again appeared—this time, right in front of him.
‘Dance of Death.’
Wabooom.
The Spirit Beast Falcon above saw Qai’s enemy at a disadvantage and immediately sneaked an orb-like Wind element attack.
Boom.
The enemy was stunned at the sudden attack from above.
It obviously confused the target whose face immediately turned pale when he saw Qai grinning.
He wanted to flee but, in panic, his feet seemed to have been locked onto the ground.
‘Meteor Slash.’

This is Kai's story, the moments of his triumphs, and the moments when he feels that things couldn't possibly be worse. Thanks to puddles4263 and his story The Legend of Randidly Ghosthound for the inspiration on the world this is set in. If you have never read that I highly recommend it, and if you have read it and enjoyed that story then I hope you'll enjoy mine as well. This is the first story I'm ever putting out for public consumption so reader beware on that. Any constructive criticism is always appreciated, simply leaving a half star review tells me that you're a moron who doesn't know how to use words. I'm constantly trying to improve my writing and feedback and criticism on what works and what doesn't is the only way to do that at the point I feel I am at. Last, I just marked all the content warnings because you never know where a story will take you and I don't want to exclude anything (though there will never be a harem). I am going to release 1-2 chapters per week on Fridays. Thanks and enjoy.
