"Even in a desolate place, life cannot be bereft of chances. But most lead to uncertainties and only a wise man can turn chance into good fortune."

Marcus Cornelius gasped for air lying down as he was resuscitated by a middle aged bearded man.

After he coughed out mouthful of water, he cleared his mind. His initial thoughts were to thank the person who saved him but his face immediately sank instead.

The man wore a peculiar robe which would undoubtedly look laughable anywhere in the empire. The man do not seem a knight, neither a noble nor a commoner.

He did not know what to feel. Although it still appeared to be autumn, the sky that bared before his eyes however has astonishingly three suns.

Three suns!

He wracked up his brain in order to figure out what was going on.

'This must be a dream,' he thought.

He blinked twice in order to see clearly, end even attempted to hurt himself literally just to be certain he is fully awake but the three suns still stood high in the sky.

Then the strange man unexpectedly said words which he could not understand. The more absurd the things happening, the more he wanted to figure out what was going on. So he tried to clear his thoughts but he was again disturbed by another series of confusing things. The middle aged man who apparently saved him immediately carried him with ease and attempted to embrace him with seeming mixed emotions on the former's face.

Only then did he realize that his body actually turned small and felt so fragile as a child. And that he himself wore some kind of robe.

‘He’s not a giant, is he!?’ He sarcastically thought.

His mind was struck with an abrupt realization that something was really amiss with the present situation. In his memory, his body just earlier was being forcefully submerged under the water before he succumbed to life.

While the stream near the place of ambush was shallow, the black armored knights only needed to put their weight on the poor baron’s body to make the latter drown to death. That time he no longer thought of resisting and simply gave in as lost all hope with his eyes closed.

But for whatever reason, he was miraculously awoken by the saving grace of the middle aged man who, by the way the latter look at his face, seems to be related to him.

Marcus Cornelius turned to look at his body; somehow he was no longer surprised to see that he has indeed turned into a child.

That truth was even more proven when he tried to say something to the man. But the words that came out of his mouth only appeared to be senseless words before the man.

Only then he resigned that he may be reincarnated as some one else. And the current world he is not the empire he knew.

He observed some more and confirmed that the scenery around the stream was completely different from what he remembered.

Marcus Cornelius finally decided to put everything at the back of his mind and just felt thankful that he was alive. Certainly, the feeling of being in the imminent danger of death was beyond imagination.

Even without grasping the entire situation he is currently in, he is somehow trying to find ways how to repay the middle aged man for his kindness after he gets better, or so he thought. Ordinarily, a noble should not easily extend gratitude. In the so-called circle of aristocracy, nobles arrogate upon themselves that it is their right to be served. So in the ordinary circumstance, him being saved is natural.

But Marcus Cornelius is convinced he is in a different world altogether. And logic dictates that the place has different traditions. At least he was clever enough to put such idea in mind.

'I should at least offer some compensation. I may be a noble, but my life is worth more than my face,' he calmly contemplated, as if being a mere child is capable of accomplishing such.

Of course, all these thoughts occurred in his mind while he was being carried towards who knows where he is taking him.

It only took a time to brew a cup of tea, when Marcus Cornelius and the man carrying him arrived at a walled settlement. Even from a distance, he could already tell that at least, there is a certain level of civilization in his current world. But unlike in the empire, the walls were only three-meter high, and the kind of stones used were definitely different. But that is to be expected in a land with three suns.

There were few soldiers manning the walls. They wore the same type of robe his savior is wearing and they carried spears and bows with them.

For a knight like him, metal armors are like the first line of defense. So he assumed that metal ores were scarce in the place.

Once the two got inside, he found more people in robes.

'I guess, this is where I restart everything,' he sighed. 'But first, I need to know everything about this place. Learn their language and ways, then restart my training as a knight. I don't feel that these people follow the same system of nobility back in the empire.'

The man carrying him continued to walk within the walled settlement. In his estimate, the place is obviously bigger than a village, but definitely not the level of a town. He just kept on observing the surrounding while the man carrying him kept talking to him in the strange language. There was even a moment, that the man sounded as if he was trying to teach him things. And there was a definite warmth exuding from the man.

'Could he be this boy's father!?'

Only then he remebered he was in a body of a little child. He knew he just borrowed the life of the boy so it was not impossible that the man who saved him was his father. Then he speculated that the boy must have accidentally drowned himself in the river at the same time he died in a parallel plane; and in a miraculous way, his spirit now lives in the body of the child.

Of course, back in the empire, there were several cults with varying religious beliefs but none thought of the possibility of reincarnation. Marcus Cornelius, coming up with such thought, was a mere spark out of intuition.

'Right now, I am a child. But I have retained my memories and knowledge from my previous life. I don't know whether my life experience for fifteen years would be advantageous in this place or not. Or whether it would be enough to help me attain a solid footing in this world. But at least, I already have clear understanding of things even as a child. And that is my good fortune.'

When they came to a stop, the man brought him inside a stone house that looked like a manor with an open workshop. There were several tools, a fire furnace, and varying weapons in a stand which to his conclusion make the house the abode of a blacksmith.

He did not why he was brought to the place, but then the man carried him further inside. And his guess that the man who saved him was his father even became more evident when a young woman rushed from the inside and hurried towards him crying. The woman said things he did not understand then him to her embrace.

He couldn't help but blush when the soft body of the woman wrapped around his small physique. But the woman even felt glad when his face turned red.

"Silly kid you had me and your father worried," the woman actually said. "Next time you try to play around, don't run by the riverbanks."
