《Unleash the beast》Chapter 7: A new evolution
Advertisement
I barely manage to think in my mind.
'Dark steel dire wolf'
I can't afford to choose beast man now, whilst it would be good to know that I could actually put my martial arts to good use. If I turn into something potentially weaker now, I'll be devoured.
I felt sleeps cold embrace. I sure as hell hope I don't wake up dead.
1 day later
"Grrrrrrrrr"
I wake up let out a low grow-like yawn, when I sit up. I realise two things.
One, my head was now roughly one metre closer to the ceiling than it was before.
Two, my fur coat had changed. I turned my head around as far as it could go and I see out the corner of my eye that my coat had a new colour, a bit of orange. I was a little confused as to why I have orange fur, but it could be useful.
With the bit of orange it would be easier to blend into my forest surrounding, and if I got blood on it, it wouldn't show as much.

I then decided to check out my stats.
'Open status'
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Name: Fenrir Race: Dark steel dire wolf (unique)
Level: 16 Strength: 135
Agility: 130 Dexterity: 120
Stamina: 125 Wisdom: 75
Intelligence: 75 Physical resist: 45%
Magic resist: 35%
Magic affinities: darkness 100%
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm, it seems that I got a huge boost to my physical stats, and a fairly large boost to my other stats. My darkness also went back up to 100%, I guess I'll learn ice during a later evolution. I had also levelled up to 16 after killing that were-bear.
Now for the second observation I have to make.
'Open skills'
----------------------------------------------------------------
Dark steel tail (active) (steel tail rank II) intermediate lvl 1
The dark steel tail wraps your tail in steel and darkness, the steel is to crush bones and the darkness is to penetrate through armour. Wielding this ability you will be the bane of all Knights.
--------------------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Dark claw (active) beginner lvl 1
Wrap your claws in darkness, increasing their length my 2x and sharpening them to the highest degree. Can penetrate most armours, however it is weak against magical barriers.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Shadow veil (active) beginner lvl 1
Cloak your body on darkness and become the shadows themselves. Your scent and all minor noise you make will be masked. Experienced hunters will notice you with this skill still low levelled as they will feel your presence. Does not work in direct light.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dark steel fur (passive) (steel fur rank II) intermediate lvl 1
This ability causes your fur to be made out of darkness infused steel, the strongest form of steel ever discovered. This fur will block out all minor attacks completely, and soften the impacts from devastating blows. Current effects:
Physical resist: 45%
Magic resist: 35%
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hmm, it seems that all my former abilities have upgraded into rank II, and I've gotten two new abilities.

Dark claw is going to be very useful, increasing the length of my claws is going to be vital to my survival.
Dark veil will also be extremely useful for whenever I either want to make an escape or surprise attacks.
For know I will try to level up all my abilities, first I will try and use dark claw.
'Dark claw'
Before my very eyes my claws grew two times in length, and looked darker than the shadows surrounding me in my cave. I decided to test how long I could hold this ability for.
*5 minutes later
The claws retracted, and I was feeling extremely drained, I felt like I just ran a marathon one legged.
It seems that I can only hold the form for roughly 5 minutes, this means either I have to train my ability to last longer, or make all my battles shorter.
I've decided to do both.
I eyed the corpse of the were-bear out the corner of my eye, I walked over and started feasting. Once I had finished, I surprisingly felt good as new. I guess eating replenishes my magic reserves.
'Okay time to train my other abilities' I thought
'Dark veil'
Then my body seemed to meld into the shadows, it felt very strange. A bit like being underwater but being able to breath.
*10 minutes later
I melded out of the shadows and felt extremely tired once again, ten minutes was quite good though. But not good enough, I would have to train the abilities.
And the best place to train is in a fight. I ate the rest if the were-bear and walked out of my cave and into the dark forest night.
Almost at once I was bombarded with the trails of were-bears, I chose to follow the trail of two were-bears.
Once I arrived I saw two were-bears feasting on the corpse of another were-bear, cannibalism.
I activated shadow veil and crept closer, once I was about 6 feet away I leaped at the nearest were-bear, deactivating shadow veil at the last second and activating shadow claw instead. I could use both at the same time but it was much more taxing on my body.
I swiped at the back of his neck and I felt my claws slice through the flesh like butter and hit something that gave a bit of resistance, but they soon cut it.
The were-bear dropped to the floor dead. Yes, I had severed his spinal cord at the back of neck.
His friend whirled around and sent a clawed hand from the left my way, I spun around to the right and turned his arm bones to dust with my 'dark steel tail'.
Then, stepping in closer I used my momentum to slice open his stomach with my 'dark claw'. The were-bears innards spilled out and onto the forest floor, but the were-bear didn't care and leaped at me.
I jumped up using my hand legs and dodged his claws, and using my own claws I cleaved open his head. He tumbled to the ground dead, I landed with a soft *thud*.

I then proceeded to devour their bodies to regain my energy, then I headed in the direction of two more were-bears.
1 day later
I had killed over 50 more were-bears and levelled up another 3 times.
I was now headed back to my cave when I heard something which surprised the living shit our of me.
"STAY BACK! GET AWAY FROM ME! *sobbing sounds*"
This surprised me, so I was naturally curious.
I activated 'dark veil' which I had levelled up to beginner lvl 7 and bounded over in the direction of the screaming, when I arrived I saw something surprising.
There was an elf girl standing with her back against a cliff face, currently surrounding her were non-other than 6 were-bears.
My instincts driven into me by my slightly perverted father from the earth realm kicked into action.
Flashback
Father: "SON! This is my most important lesson for you!"
Me: "yes father!"
Father: "if you ever see a pretty girl in danger, save her! She may give you..... Rewards."
Father: "hehehe"
*end of flashback
I deactivated my 'shadow veil' and threw myself at top speed right into the were-bear that was about to finish the elf girl, I swung my claws around mid flight and activated 'shadow claws' which I had managed to bring up to beginner level 8.
I flew past him and slit open his throat, causing him to fall backwards clutching his bloodied throat.
I continued flying right into another were-bear, spear tackling him. He managed to claw my shoulder, drawing quite an amount of blood.
I speared my dark claws into his chest and through his heart, killing him instantly. I then jumped off his body and positioned myself between the rest of the were-bears and the elf girl, who was now dumbfounded as to why I was protecting her, which I was too.
Two were-bears attacked at the same time, one going low and the other high. I jumped, spinning around and slammed my 'dark steel tail' right into arm of of the wear-bear that went high, the tail smashed past the outstretched arm and into the face of the were-bear, then I landed on top of an angry were-bear that started furiously clawing up my stomach.
Before he could get through my tough under-fur and spill my innards I started clawing him back, I first severed the tendons on his shoulders so his arms would no longer be a nuisance, then I leaned down and tore his throat out with my teeth.
Now there were only two left, one of the two started sprinting at me while the second got ready to jump.
I tried to dodge but the were-bear tackled me head on, I fell on my back with the huge were-bear on top of me, trying to tear my face off. As soon as I hit the dirt I used all four of my legs and pushed the bear off me and sent it flying into a tree behind me.
I looked up and saw a huge shadow rushing down to meet me, my instincts kicked in and I rolled to the side. Only to see the second were-bear hit the earth with a huge *BANG*. I sprung up, and as I rose I brought a clawed paw infused with 'dark claw' up and dragged it from the Bears waist all the way up to its neck, going several inches deep.
It responded with a long side swipe with all its power behind it, I didn't have time to doge so I tried to soften the blow with my 'dark steel tail'. I flew several metres back and rolled along the ground for a few more feet, the strength of were-bears was scary.
I was disadvantaged because I had to protect the elf girl, she was sitting there and chanting something I couldn't understand. I think she was a resident of this realm.
I heard the air parting so I ducked, only to see an arm shoot out where my head once was. I responded by charging forward and stabbing the attacker in their exposed stomach with a thrust from my 'dark claws'.
I angled my claws up and pierced their heart. Then I heard the earth shake, I looked to my left and saw the last bear only a few metres away and winding up a swipe that I wouldn't be able to dodge.
Then the elf girl stopped chanting and she glowed with a soft green light, then thick roots rose up from the earth and wrapped around the Bears legs.
This only stopped it for barely a second, as it just tore through them lie, they were made of paper, but it was enough.
I rushed him and tore out his vocal cords with my teeth. Then I pushed him down and ravaged his chest into ribbons.
I looked up at the elf girl, 'did she just use magic?'. Well it must have been a very taxing spell because she was now passed out in the floor.
I decided to bring her too my cave because it was dangerous out here, I grabbed her by the hem of her clothes with my teeth. Then I picked her up off the ground and headed back to my cave.
She was extremely beautiful, soft golden eyes along with vibrant golden hair and a well endowed body. She only looked about 17 or 18, but I did hear that elves aged very slowly.
Once I arrived at the cave I sat and waited for her to wake up.
'Well what the fuck now?' I thought grimly.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well that's the end of that long chapter.
Should I make the mysterious elf girl a new companion? Or the starter for some epic quest that will make Fenrir famous across the world of Ragnarok and Earth?
Tell me what you think I should do, because I'm torn between the two. And I don't really want both because the elf girl will just be a hindrance on his epic quest.

Beware of typos and lack of creative descriptions — my main priority is to get the story out over writing quality. Still, I hope you enjoy the story. Updates are sporadic, but I aim to release a chapter (~2000-3000 words) at least once a week. Average release time is 1 chapter/3 days. I took inspiration from the lore of the MMO, Dungeon Fighter Online (Dungeon & Fighter), and there may be easter eggs or references to the game, but the story and characters have become wholly original and standalone. [Note: Profanity tag is up because profanity is present, but infrequent]

Starchild
“It’s life’s illusions I recall. I really don’t know life at all.” from the song, Both Sides Now, by Joni Mitchell Starchild is an adventure novel set within an understanding of reality that is rooted in Eastern spiritual traditions. It takes as its starting point experiments in remote viewing that were genuinely undertaken by the American military in the nineteen-nineties under the name of the Stargate Project. It then imagines how a more advanced attempt to weaponise the capabilities of consciousness might have been developed in the present day.The story then explores how Ultimate Reality might respond to such a threat.Deep, elemental forces thus bring together Samantha Martin and Sahadeva Varma, old colleagues from the Stargate Project, to avert the apocalyptic consequences of this military attempt to weaponise consciousness. This fast-paced story spans genres including romance, action, adventure, science fiction and more. Although this story is based on concepts drawn from established spiritual traditions, these have sometimes been extrapolated to the point of very extreme speculation for the needs of an adventure story.Much of the underlying philosophy, however, as explained in the dharma talks given by Samantha Martin, is paraphrased from the guidance of respected spiritual teachers. Scheduling: Starchild is a previously unpublished novel of one hundred thousand words which was serialised in weekly instalments over twenty-five weeks from 15th November 2021 to the 29th April 2022. Each instalment contains five chapters – an average of approximately four thousand words in each instalment.
