《Abomination》Chapter 23 Depression (Unedited)

Kain Talcott, Green Demi-Sage of the Fire Element. A human with an almost unnatural affinity towards the inferno. At the age of 40 he had stagnated his meteoric rise in power. As a child he was considered a spear prodigy, known for his extreme talent with the long weapon Kain was able to make his name known throughout Gosrad as a once in a decade genius. Even before entering into the ranks of Magus, Kain was able to use purely his spear play and Fire Element to dominate almost all adversaries. But his power brought ruin to the family around him, after numerous declines to join the Gosrad army, the army then chose to ‘coerce’ him with the use of his family. At 12 his mother and father were killed in a demonstration of the consequence his denial had. At 16 his sister was forced to ‘serve’ as the soldier’s relief worker. She later committed suicide. With all of these events, Kain Talcott fled Gosrad and joined the Elemental Academy. With the aid of the Academy the Gosradian army was left stonewalled and eventually left with no other choice but to forget about the spear genius known as Kain Talcott.
After the death of his family, Kain withdrew into the martial way. He became a reclusive weapons expert that shook the Academy with his amazing skills as a junior student. Though never competing openly, his prestige was never questioned. Eventually an old dwarven warrior took interest in the human that had grew to hate his fellow people. With a bit of time and effort the two entered into a master and disciple relationship, the dwarf was a true master of the staff. He taught Kain much on the art of the polearm, even passing on some of his most secret of techniques to the young boy.
It was this dwarven warrior that allowed Kain to let go of his hatred and grew to accept others into his life. The first person being his master and the second being his junior brother, Eric Teslan. This was the connection between the young Lucifer and Kain Talcott. It was also thanks to Eric that Kain had come to Muselpine. Though their meeting place was different than expected by Kain, the two still met. While Kain had recently taken up the mantle of Alchemist after Eric had parted with him, he was still very talented in the abstract art, so with his deep and profound knowledge of polearms and true war armaments he was able to make much more profound weapons. Other Alchemists could scarcely hold a candle to his weapons, even when other Alchemists possessed a stronger and more refined base, Kain’s creations were truly meant for battle and that could not be changed even with the most precious materials.
Kain slaved away over the scorching heat of the crucible as he began creating the warglaive’s head. Using the fangs and horns of a 5th Rank Heracles Ravager; a Beast known to decimate entire ecosystems, with black iron ore Kain created the molten liquid that would be later used to form the head of the weapon. His cauldron was busy tempering the staff of the warglaive. A log of Letwood bathed in the bubbling vat of the 10 foot wide cauldron. Kain was using the marrow and blood of a peak Goldtail Tiger to treat the Letwood and allow it to become supple yet firm enough to be used as the staff of the mighty warglaive.
Lucifer spent 3 days waiting in the suite for Kain to create his weapon. Even going so far as to order the maid looking after his room, to bring all his meals to the room for him. All that consumed Lucifer was the thoughts of what his life would become, and where he would go. Thoughts of isolating himself in the far reaches of the Beast Kingdom soon became prevalent in the young boy’s mind. While Lucifer truly loved the life of a Beast, he too loved the life of a warrior. The struggle and battle that came from war, hunting, living truly appealed to him. But Lucifer realised that even if he tried, he could live as such. He was bound to the life of man. He wanted to live with his mother and father. He wanted to meet them. He wanted to learn about the world around him. He wanted to explore the world. But there were so many that wanted him dead and he was so weak against their strength. Both his grandfathers were said to be Purple Saints. His grandmother on his mother’s side was a Blue Arch-Sage, while nothing was known about his father’s mother she was still rumored to be just as strong. Lucifer could not withstand even their presence at his current state.

Regardless of his so called unparalleled talent, Lucifer was still very weak in front of the true rulers of the world. He could not demand anything from the Nephilims or Levin Empire, he could only run from bounty hunters and his mother’s family while praying that they didn’t send anyone stronger than himself. Yue, Jasmine and Eric left him not only to pursue their own matters but also because he would soon outgrow them. He could already match a common Brown Knight or Magus, but that truly meant little in the face of the experts that were after him. Only the weak city guards could be entirely disregarded by Lucifer, not the military that backed the countries of Gaies.
“Luna, I know that you hate the city but can you come out of my shadow?” Lucifer called out to the empty room he currently lay in.
“What made you remember about me finally?” Luna spoke bitterly as she stepped out of his shadow and lay down in the dark corner of the room.
“I have been thinking about things.” Lucifer spoke slowly.
“About what I am and the future that lies ahead of me. I cannot be a normal man, growing old and settling down to raise a family after years of plying my trade. I cannot have a normal mate. I cannot even feel the ‘emotions’ others feel at my age. I am a monster to others with similar heritage as myself. The entire world would have me dead if my existence became widespread. Luna tell me what I should do as such an abomination? Should I let my life be taken from me and give up this seemingly futile struggle or should I just destroy everything and everyone? Both of these choices are wrong, I know that. But I cannot just continue like this.”
“Where did this all come from Lucifer, you are only 11! You do not need to be considering your life now. That is what old men do when they have become so old that they cannot work and are not old enough to die peacefully. Tell me what brought these depressing thoughts?”
“That old man. His words. He said that I would not have many rivals and that I would do great things. But how could he have known what I am inside! He probably thought I was some 16 old warrior about to go to the Academy not an 11 year old monster!” Lucifer snapped with rage and sadness flickering across his heterochromic eyes.
“Lucifer, there are so many things in this world that you cannot even begin to fathom. The depth and mystery that Gaies holds is truly amazing. Come let me show you what I know, we can explore and live in the wilds of the Beast Kingdom. You lived before without two-legs and you can do it again can’t you?” Luna pleaded as she bounded into Lucifer’s chest and began to rub her soft and luxurious fur on him.
“How can it be that easy Luna? The only reason I am not dead yet is because I had Eric and the others to watch over me. Now? I am alone, I do have you but what can you do against anyone capable of besting me? Nothing. I need to go to the Academy to have safety, but what about after? Should I stay there till I can rival my grandparents? No! I will never become truly strong by living under another’s wing.” Lucifer roared in shame and humiliation as the grim reality of his life truly grasped him. He had nothing but unnatural strength going for him. Nobody to give love to, nobody to be loved by, nobody at all. Only a stray wolf pup he rescued could keep him true company, and he only thought of her as little sister. He could not even begin to imagine her as anything other than what she was, and he knew that asking the King of Beasts to turn her human was an impossible idea. Not that he hadn’t once dreamt of doing such a thing, but now he truly could see the folly of his immature idealizations.

Luna kept silent as she saw the tears that steadily flowed out of Lucifer’s eyes. There were no words that she could say to him, she was the same. She was abandoned and had latched on to Lucifer in hopes of finding companionship much the same as he now desperately longed for an equal and one to give his care for. As much as Luna loved and wanted Lucifer for herself, she could not outright demand he keep himself for her. It would ruin what bond they had left after the near catastrophic fight swept through their relationship.
“Luna tell me what is the point of my life? Is it to be an object of hate and fear or do I actually have a role in this fucked up world?” Sobbed Lucifer as he buried his face in her fur and grabbed her with large hands.
Just as Luna was about to respond to the sobs of Lucifer, there was a knocking at the room’s door. Both Luna and Lucifer leapt out of the bed and took on a combat ready poise, the years of life in Talk Forest showing itself through their natural response to sudden noises.
“Who?” Lucifer called out after a slight pause to steady his voice and self.
“A master Talcott, is awaiting you in the dining area m’lord.” Called the maid from outside of the room. She dared not open the door without the express permission of Lucifer.
“Tell him I will be down shortly.”
“It shall be done m’lord.” The maid responded respectfully as she took her leave to complete her new task.
“We will see Kain and then head for Az Citadel. I need no armour nor a sword if I am heading straight to the Academic examination. We will speak of this another time, I truly wish to forget these thoughts of mine.” Lucifer spoke blandly as he manipulated his Mana to clean his tear stained face.
“Very well brother, I will head out of the city and wait for you near the main road.” Luna said as she rubbed her head against his body before she leapt through the shadows of the dimly lit room.
“Time to see what a warglaive is, eh old man?” Lucifer spoke as he turned towards the door and left the lavish suite that constituted as his prison for the last few days.
Walking down the hallway of the inn, Lucifer could hear the minstrel playing in the dining area on the floor below him. He could almost feel the strong overpowering scent of alcohol and smoked meat that saturated the wooden floor beams of the inn. He had never left his room because of the strong hearty scents that assaulted his extremely heightened senses, thus leading him into his depression riddled thoughts.
Using his Mana as a stop gap measure, Lucifer directed Yellow Mana into his nasal passages to create quite the literal nose plug. While dreadfully inefficient the magical nose plug worked like a charm for him. The only downside being his reptilian tongue could taste the air and all that it carried, leaving Lucifer right back at square one.
“Hatchling!” Called Kain in an almost deafening Mana infused voice as he saw Lucifer’s form descending the main stairs. But quite unexpected of the Demi-Sage, all eyes in the establishment turned to bear witness to who would call out so loud and rudely. Their shock that the one who caused such ruckus would be a royal draconian could be imagined. Even the minstrels broke character and ceased the music.
“Hush you old geezer!” Replied Lucifer in a low hiss, as his displeasure at the attention he was receiving grew.
“Oi! You idiots, get back to the music the hatchling hates the attention hahaha!” Kain bellowed in an almost mocking roar of laughter.
Only silence continued as Kain began to laugh even more boisterously. It wasn't until Lucifer began to growl menacingly and his tail began flipping tables with its back and forth whipping.
“Alright hatchling, let us be on our way. Your weapon is more perfect then I could have ever dreamed possible given the materials I had to work with.” The old man spoke between fits of laughter as he rose and motioned for Lucifer to follow him.
“Even with the parts of a Heracles Ravager and the potent Letwood, I still could never have thought that there could be such a weapon forged. I hope you see the beauty in it as well hatchling for you shall not see another warglaive like it in the entire world!” As the duo arrived in the room that served as Kain’s workshop, the older man exclaimed quietly to Lucifer whose eyes lay riveted to the gleaming weapon in the middle of the room.
A large 8’6” hunk of power given physical form lied at the end of Lucifer’s sight. Just gazing at the blackened yellow of the warglaive’s curved scimitar like blade, made Lucifer almost drool. The pale black, almost charcoal coloured staff that held the blade gave Lucifer’s fingers a trembling as he imagined the warglaive in his hands.
With a single leap Lucifer leapt from Kain’s side and arrived next to the weapon. His hands slowly reaching for the hilt as he slowly took in every simple yet elegant detail of the warglaive. Kain had only but a black tassel for design and flare on the base of the blade yet there was a majesty and prestige the simple weapon gave off. Maybe it was the absolutely rare and precious materials used in it’s forging, but Lucifer could feel that the weapon before deserved his respect. His Sin of Pride still viewed the warglaive as an equal, despite the plain and simple looks.
“Demi-Sage Kain Talcott. What is her name?” Lucifer demanded as he turned and glared furiously from under his cloaked hood. All Kain could see was the savage grin that was plastered on the bottom half of Lucifer’s face. With a slight chuckle the Demi-Sage answered Lucifer’s demand.
“Name her yourself if you intend to use her as she was meant for.”
“Seorsum, asunder. No, no you are not a simple act. But a true vita messor and the morsus mihi. Messor Praenuntius, Harbinger of the Reaper. Take hold of your name Messor and let us fulfill our desire and purpose.” Lucifer whispered to the blade as he let his Yellow Mana rush into the warglaive that his fingers gently caressed. The powerful Mana surged like a tsunami through the Letwood shaft and began to form abstract characters around the pale black wood. The flood of Mana gradually made its way into the blade of the weapon and mark it with the ancient and primal characters. Messor the Harbinger, had been born into the world. As a weapon imbued with Mana and given a name in the ancient tongue, Messor became unique. She gained sentience.

Just to inform people early: There is no evil corporation looking to control the world with VR, there is no Krueger-esque "if you die in the game, you die for real.", and this isn't a story of some OP harem-loving god of the system. Nothing wrong with those stories this just isn't one. This is a simple story about a guy playing a game and finally 3.) This story is extremely rough, i did very little editing, this is just me gauging interest really. oh, and English is my 1st language, if for some reason you find that important. The Legend of Fanaura: Cursed
'Hey, need some help there?' An unfamiliar voice echoed through her mind, and she startled, losing her grip on the red phial. It rolled through the grass, away from her. "Oh shoot!" she yelped, and her focus diverted from her opponent for a split second, but it was enough to prove fatal. The beast took advantage of her distraction and lunged towards her. She tried to back away, but in her haste, she stumbled and fell. She looked at the beast, inches away from her, and shut her eyes in fear. She raised her arms to cover her head, even if she knew it was futile. Yet seconds passed, and no pain came. Then she heard the beast let out a pained yelp. She opened her eyes to the familiar sounds of battle before her. A tall man stood before her, locked in battle with the beast. He wielded a sword as long as his height, yet it didn't seem to hinder him in the slightest. She watched in awe as he swung the obviously heavy sword around as if it were light as a feather. His movements were swift and precise, and it didn't take long before the beast fell to the ground, motionless. “You alright there, miss?” The man sheathed his sword across his back, before turning to her. Her eyes widened when she heard his voice. It was the same voice who had that had spoken into her mind and the cause of her almost-fatal distraction. Nobody knows for sure, but a battle of life and death is bound to come. NOTE: Consider this story as the first version. I want to keep working on it so that the story can actually finish at one point for future development. I want to eventually make it a webtoon comic, but the story still needs to be written and the art still needs be improved. So I'll keep writing for now, but expect the final result to be much better than the story now. Until then, I hope we can have a great time together with this writing experiment. Thanks!
