《Celestial Magus》Chapter 29 : Lord of Greyston

Transferring of a town to another person was not much of a deal, these types of transactions always occurred in Lorvale. All Sophy had to do was to draft a transfer document and send it to the capital city. But this was just for the sake of paperwork, anyone can be the head of a town or a village if they had enough power to hold it. All they had to do was pay the tax to the royal family.
The transfer of Goldfair city was a much harder process. It required the arrival of a member of royal family and bestowing the city upon its new owner. Sophy had already sent word to her clan and the royal family about the takeover of the city.
Sophy was really happy about getting the control of the Goldfair city. She was sidelined by the new head of clan to this remote city which the clan didn’t even control. But after meeting this man called Robert, she was able to make the stagnant weapon industry bloom and make some serious money. Her opinion on Robert got ten times better after he took over the city fighting against a group of hundred expert level magic users. With the limited number of men in the Black Dragon castle from the Goldfair and Greyston, she wouldn’t even be able to fight against the mercenaries and thugs of the Snake skulls. Let alone standing head to head with the experts that were with Yuuma.
She still had no idea about the history of Robert, and it didn’t matter for her. He shared the secrets of the gunpowder with her, and that one thing alone was enough for the downfall of a city guarded by even experts. If these weapons were produced in large scale, it would be enough to change the outline of this continent.
“That bastard was so thick-skinned that he ain’t even getting scratched by bullets,” Mike was describing how they shot down an expert with the hwacha and finished him off with snipers.
He had already chugged down many glasses of wine and was in a really good mood. He had never had any adventures like this all his life and was enjoying this moment where everyone saw him as a hero.
“Hey, mike, let’s go!”, Nenand was getting tired of listening to Mike’s story of how they beat an expert. He had already listened to this story many times this day, each time Mike describing his epic deeds to a different audience inside this Tavern. People were queuing to buy a drink and hear stories from the heroes, and thus made for a good audience.

Isidro was also lying on the table near mike, he had already got drunk from all the wine and was now passed out. Mike was nothing near to drunk and was chucking down more and more wine.
Although everyone who participated in the battle had their own stories, they were not as splendid as the one which Mike had or the old man named Koert who fired a cannon into an army of experts had.
Nenand was responsible for taking the central tower of the city and his mission couldn’t have gone any better. They took out the guards who were guarding the tower without any resistance and taking the top of the tower didn’t even require any of their strength. they just had to light a grenade and throw it up. And it doesn’t matter how much you try to exaggerate this, it was almost impossible, especially when all the men from the other towers had the same story to tell.
Robert walked into the tavern wearing a new dress which made him look nobler. Robert didn’t want to look flashy or stand out, but Sophy had dragged him into the cloth shop, buying him an attire that made him look more like a Lord of town.
“Now you look noble!”
She was happy about this new dress of Robert. Now if someone sees him, they will for sure think he has high origins. She did this for Roberts own good, she was sure that if he went back to Greyston like he was earlier, there will be people who will talk badly about him. Some might even won’t accept him as the town lord.
The militiamen and the snipers were all enjoying the drinks and food and hearing others stories. There were many who were already wasted like Isidro, some have got lucky with a woman and were now somewhere else. Most were enjoying the moment that they didn’t see Robert walk in, or rather, they didn’t immediately recognize him due to his noble attire. Robert always wore a simple dress and didn’t stand out from the crowd. He walked into the crowd that was listening to Mike’s story. The story finished and the crowd applauded, Finally, when the cheering has stopped, Robert was still clapping, slowly. Everyone’s eyes fell upon him and many militiamen and the snipers like Mike recognized him and jumped up in respect

“Everyone, for celebrating me becoming the lord of Greyston, the drinks are all on me tonight!”
The crowd remained silent for another few seconds before breaking out into a cheer again. The lord of the town was there, throwing a party for them like they were equals. Usually, to celebrate occasions like this, lords would throw a banquet, but they were only for nobles and members of higher class families.
Enjoying like this was a first time for Robert too, in his previous life, he had stayed away from things like going to parties and enjoying for doing his researches. But now was a time for celebration, he had taken his first step in increasing his sphere of influence in this world.
After a few rounds of drinks, and most men were drunk, They set off to the Greyston town. Carriages
Robert didn’t forget to ransack some rare books from the large families’ libraries to learn more about magic, spells and this world.
Reaching Greyston the next morning, the news of Robert being the lord of Greyston spread quickly. People who had little knowledge about whom he was were not sure on what to think about this change.
Robert arranged for the families of the men who died in the battle to get an amount of money every month as pension. This order made many men in the finance department of the Greyston to frown but lit up the faces of the army men. This meant that if they died in a battle for their lord, their families would be safe for life.
Robert decided to move out from the Black Dragon store into a large house. He didn’t want to do his secretive experiments under the watchful eyes of the Black Dragon clan from now on. He trusted them, but there were things that were best kept to himself, like the method of how to get other elemental affinities.
Getting into his new home, it that looked old and was sparsely furnished, and was easy to see that this place was hastily prepared. The militiamen all stood on the large ground that was behind the house. The reason Robert decided to live in this older house was the proximity to this large ground. He wanted to have a large open space for addressing the soldiers as well as test his new weapons and magic.
Robert now had a few true soldiers under him, Sophy gave him a few of her guards to train his men. After all, these men that Robert had was only hunters and gatherers and although had gone through combat, were not true soldiers.
Walking into the grounds, Robert understood how chaotic was these men from the way they stood. They were only able to fight and win in the battle in Goldfair city as it was a blitz attack. furthermore, their every action was designed step by step and all they had to do was just to follow them.
But if they were head to head with an army in a battlefield where the other side had a shield, their current guns wouldn’t help them and would be crushed in the melee fight.
Robert wanted to increase both his personal power to the level of at least an expert and turn this militia into an elite army. And the snipers as a special unit.
He already had a general idea formed in his mind on the command structure of the army. He decided to mimic the military structure of his previous world.
Four men and a corporal form a fireteam. A sergeant with four fireteams forms a squad. Four squads form a platoon. Four platoons form a company, led by a captain.
He didn’t need to think up higher structures for now as there were only less than a hundred men in his army.
He also had the idea for a separate branch for the artillery including the cannons and hwacha. But he wanted to replace the cannons using something that was easier to transport or had a higher range. like rocket artillery that was a larger form of the hwacha and had tens of kilometers in range.
But increasing his personal power was also important. He was yet to break through the bottleneck of level 9 apprentice. And his unique cultivation method was nowhere near success.
