《Monsters of Terra: A Compendium》Spitters

If scuttlers are the foot soldiers of the skree army, then spitters are their archers.
Spitters are slower than their scuttler kin. They lack the blades or tough carapace of the scuttler, and in fact, their body is rather soft by skree standards. So, why then does their arrival to the battlefield send chills down the spines of their enemies?
Each spitter houses sacs of purple fluid within its body, leading to the much softer and less threatening appearance. They swell up and then contract their bodies and spray forth a purple acid from their mouths.
This acid is beyond the likes of any naturally occurring acid. It eats through anything it touches. Stone, steel, leather, skin, bone, and muscle all dissolve before it.
The only thing that seems to remain utterly untouched by this acid is other skree.
So, they unleash volley after volley of deadly rain, and they need not even worry about friendly fire. Shields that could stop the mightiest of arrows are of little use against a spitter as the metal will simply dissolve. The acid will stream down onto your arm, and before you know it, you will be in howling agony and begging for a scuttler to end your life.
In my journeys, I have seen many horrible things. I have seen armies storm castle walls only to be covered in burning pitch. I remember their screams to this day.
But, it just doesn’t compare to the gurgled cries of dwarves screaming even as their throat dissolves.
And, as with all skree, spitters are incredibly difficult to kill without dying yourself.
Almost their entire body consists of acid filled sacs, so should you hack through their most tender flesh acid will spray forth from the wound.
It will cover you from head to toe, and you will die a most agonizing death.

Thankfully, spitters are far rarer than scuttlers. I can’t be sure why this is. I do have a theory, however, that the skree function like a hive of insects and that they choose what will be born when. So, perhaps scuttlers are easier to grow and are somehow more cost-effective? Maybe spitters are more expensive, requiring more food or time to hatch?
I wish I knew more, but as I’ve said before… the skree are not forthcoming.

Awakening
A potent tale of self-discovery. Centuries ago, the prophetic Golden Age ended in war, and history spiraled into darkness... Now, only scholars retain the last portent of the mythic city A'lara, concealed in a distant glade for the advent of the dragon mage. At the edge of the Known World, the slave Larin escapes her new lord before she meets his dark masters. Deep in the mountains, the legendary elf Kingard awaits his call to battle. When young Darek flees imperial mages tasked to exterminate shape-shifters, he launches them all on a voyage to redeem their unsought destiny. United by fate and guided by prophesy, their growing band of fugitives journey for A'lara to fight the ancient evil infiltrating the capital. But looming over the gears of fate, their enemies follow the same prophesies. With the unknown close upon them, Kingard and his allies face a mortal quest to restore their infected empire. Praise for Awakening: If you love Anne McCaffrey, J.R.R. Tolkien and Tad Williams, then Awakening is a novel you will surely want to pick up. D.N.Frost is a consummate world-builder with a knack for creating characters that are complex and three-dimensional. Frost writes with graceful prose that is descriptive and well-edited. The plot is fast-paced and entertaining. What really sets this novel apart is the cartography, which is a spectacular accomplishment. Incredible world-building! - M.L. Spencer, author of The Rhenwars Saga ★★★★★ This novel was published in 2014, and it includes 19 antique watercolor maps! Check them out: Maps of Awakening: an atlas directory

Demon Hunters
Far in the future, the last two viable cities in the western hemisphere – Technoburbia and New Baravia – struggle for control over a vast and largely desolate land. Officially they are at war. In practice, the war has been a stalemate for a generation, the disputed frontier between the two city-states never moving. In the city of New Baravia itself, a vast circular concrete wall keeps its inhabitants in, and its refugees out. For its citizens, life is monotonous and unequal, with enormous wealth in the hands of nobles, criminal gangs, and entertainment bosses. It is the last of these that control the hit entertainment show, “Demon Hunters”. A chance, perhaps, for the ordinary man or woman to rise up, and change their fate... This LitRPG novella is based around a futuristic battle-royale situation, partly set in VR, and partly in a post-apocalyptic city. The story features combat and action, some strong language, and lots of great characters that will stick with you! [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
