《A Slip Of The Force》Chapter 2 - First Day On The Job

Droids were soon sent in to begin cleaning the room and removing the bodies. They looked like big bins with arms on the sides, so they could scoop them up. They acted quietly and smoothly with the grace of a ‘Roomba’ almost unnoticed. Once finished another larger droid entered and began to hose me down and then left itself.

Soon some people enter. Two humans, one white haired and white eyed wearing full length white lab coat without the buttons, the other black hair and blues in a button less black and gold trim suit. The other a Kaminoan in some similarly white clothes.

“You’ve done an excellent job, shame it took so long to make, but none the less you have delivered what your predecessors promised. A powerful and efficient killing machine.” - Black Sun representative

“Well this is what we do for a living, though the credit for the training progressing so fast should go to Miss Su‘s people. I’ve to begrudgingly admit you Kaminoans have a particular knack for training vat grown subjects.” - Arkanian Scientist

“Thank you, it was just a simple combination of repetition, chemical stimulants and implants. That sped the process up quite a bit, also helps in keeping the subject obedient. The mental stress from that final fight, gave the implant the chance to fully integrate with the subjects brain and controlling them via chemicals released in the brain. We want it angry we make it angry, we want it sleepy we make it sleepy and so on. We can also make it think us friends by releasing various stimulants when in our presence.” - Miss Su, Kaminoan Scientist

The Black Sun representative was holding me by the chin and inspecting my face focusing particularly on my eyes.

“Well regardless of how its done you’ve done well and can expect full payment. Now we just have to get this thing into the field.” - Black Sun representative

They soon left after their little chat. Leaving me to just drift. An indeterminate amount of time later, someone entered and placed a brown nondescript cloak and data pad on the ground in front of me. I put on the cloak and looked over the data pad.

It seems they have given me an assignment and list of targets and a contact to get in touch with. The data goes on about the Barsa Sector and how it’s presided over by a Hutt Kajidic, one of the few mid rim sectors they hold dominion over. It seems to be my job to begin an expansion into said sector.

I am led to a small one man pod and sent off into the recess’s of space without a word. It takes no more than three hours or so to travel to the sector and to the Varvva system where upon the ship begins to descend to one of the few inhabited planets. It seems to be a relatively habitable planet, with trees and mountains spread over it; as opposed to desolate planets like Hoth or Tattooine. I end up in a crowded and messy space port, with multitudes of different aliens wandering around. I make my way out and head toward the location of my contact.

During this trip I pass through a marketplace selling a variety of questionable food and gadgets, its similar to a market place you would find in a slum, meat out in the open, women soliciting themselves the lot. The place is teeming with people and its so noisy that you can barely hear yourself talk, but none the less I push on through and make my way over to a dull grey building that over looks the market.

Upon entry I am met with an ugly Ugnaught, decked out in rough clothes and armour with blasters on either side of their hips and a large cannon propped up against their chair. Small but intimidating, he looks to me then gestures towards the door behind him with his head. I walk on through and find a corridor with four doors, two to the left, one at the end and another to the right. Rather drab in appearance.

I proceed down to the end and just walk on in and see a human, sat behind a big metal desk taking a hit of spice, startled by my entrance he gets up and pulls a gun ready to shoot me. Seeing this I just stand and look at him, then I reach into my cloak slowly and produce the data pad. Seeing this he calms down.

“So you’re who the bosses sent to get things started then?”

I just nod. Unperturbed by my silence he carries on.

“I see… anyway I was told that all I need to provide is the location of your targets and a weapon. So here you go one vibro knife and the data pad, with their habits, routines and common locations. You can use the first room on the left as your own while you stay here. If there isn’t anything else you need I’d like to get back to work.”

I take the knife and pad and leave the room. I go to inspect the room that I’ve been granted and find it to be a small room, with a single bed and crates stacked against one side. With a sigh I enter and begin to study the info on my targets, and find that they are located within seven separate cities and two targets are in installations out in bum-fuck nowhere; occupying mountains. This is going to take me months to finish. I suppose I should get this started sooner rather than later.

Going back out I begin to scout out my targets common watering holes in the city, finding vantage points, avenues of escape and quiet out of the way places. So that when the time comes I’m not caught off guard unawares.

I’ve been waiting in an alley opposite of a bar, for my target to appear, Kinta Dabas, a Rodian and favourite smuggler of the Hutt. He’s known to frequent this establishment and spend his credits on the girls when he isn’t working. He entered around sun down and hasn’t come out for three hours now. It’s a wonder he has any credits if he does this on a regular basis.

Its soon after this thought when he comes staggering out of the bar with what I can only interpret as a pleased look on his face, given he’s a Rodian. Anyway he makes his way down the street and I begin to move to another alley that’s along his path and lay in wait.

I strike fast and hard, reaching out with knife in hand plunging it into his throat and dragging him into the alley with the other. He was dead in a matter of seconds, these vibro-blades are nasty little things, he’s now got a hole the size of my fist in his throat. With this target taken care of I return to my room, to begin planning out the strategies for the few other targets in this city.

Over the course of the next seven days I killed 13 people with connections to the Hutt’s Kajidic. They were all simple kills like the first and its likely that my actions has caught someone’s attention, but they’ve made no moves as of yet. I now have one final target to deal with in this city.

This target is in fact an eight man team of mercenaries and the warehouse they guard owned by the Hutts. This could be my first real battle with actual weapons and I was wondering how to go about it. I could go about it in a similar fashion as I have so far or go with a head on fight and draw them into a slaughter. Or something with a modicum of thought to it.

I am now outside the warehouse, there are two guards at the front entrance, two in the back with a team of three walking around the perimeter, with their boss in a command centre of sorts where he watches security cameras.

You may be asking yourself ‘How could he see inside and know what the other person is doing?’, well its simple, whatever I am made of contains something that allows me to see life signs within a certain range; regardless of what is in the way. I have an inkling that it is force related considering what galaxy I’m in, but I haven’t managed to connect with the force in any meaningful way so far unfortunately.

Go over my equipment one final time, I begin my assault by throwing a thermal detonator to the front entrance. It vaporised most of the two guards and made a hole in the door. I then quickly charged in through the hole and began to make my way towards their boss who’s all on his lonesome. I move quickly and quietly and manage to get behind him. As he is commanding his men to converge on him, I stick my knife into his ear; making blood and brains just spill out onto the ground in a noisy splattered mess.

With that I began sprinting back towards the front, where the team of three was entering catching them by surprise. I came in low to the ground cutting off one of their legs with a powerful slash of my blade and rising up to plunge it into the heart of another and then sliding behind him to use as a shield against incoming blaster fire. Feeling the adrenaline kicking in and getting into the flow of things I back flipped high into the air, landing a foot in front of the final standing opponent and slashed across his abdomen, spilling his innards like a bowl of spaghetti bolognaise.

‘Man I miss food, I’ve been fed tasteless nutrition packs, that’s just slop with no colour or anything a meal needs to be considered one. No life in it at all, anyway I’ve got work to do.’

With two of the three dead I walk over to the footless one and reach down to slit his throat with little struggle. I now have only two members left and then all I need to do is blow up the warehouse. I pick up a blaster and climb up onto the rafters and stalk my way to the back in search of the last two. It takes a bit but I find them shoulder to shoulder guns raised making their way to the front, clearly unnerved by the lack of communication they have.

I take aim at one of them and fire three times. One hits the shoulder and the other two hits them in the chest knocking them down with a spin. His comrade fires up into the rafters, while I chuck aside the blaster and lunge towards him. I collide with him and we go tumbling to the ground, the force of the impact and subsequent rolling seems to have broken his neck taking care of my job.

I look down at myself and see that there are two holes in my cloak, but no apparent damage on my actual body thanks to my golden chest plates. Well with everyone dead I just need to begin rigging up an impromptu bomb. I go rifling through the crates and find one with some thermal detonators and another with fuel cells, painted all in red which is just begging to be shot.

After spreading the cells throughout the warehouse I make my way out, while throwing the thermal detonators around with a timed explosion and place the final fuel cell at the exit. I then proceed to walk away then when I get to ten metres away, I spin around pulling out a blaster and shoot at the cell causing it to blow up in a spectacular fashion that would make Guy Fawkes proud.

‘Man this really makes my inner pyro happy.’

I decide to take a seat and watch the rest of the warehouse go up while I can. I figure I’ve got to take every chance I get to enjoy myself, while I am free to move around as I please. Before I’m locked back up in that prison cell.

‘Hah…what am I going to do I cant live like this for the rest of my life how ever long it is.’

I lament to myself thought. Hearing noise off in the distance I decide to make myself scarce and return to my temporary headquarters. Getting back I once more walk past the Ugnaught and walk into the human’s office.

“I assume by your presence you’re dine in this city?”

I shake my head.

“Really then why are you here?”

Its at that moment I throw my knife at him hitting him square between the eyes. With a thud and a splat his head hit’s the desk and the blood pours out. Turns out his bosses didn’t like stealing merchandise for personal use.

At this I turn around and leave the office making my way back to the space port, to fly to the next city and start over again. This city marked the begging of the Black Suns rise in the Barsa Sector and rumours of a new deadly assassin in their midst.
