《A Spirit Vein's Guide to Immortality》V1C2: Coming to Terms

After several minutes of cursing out the god that reincarnated him into this world with all of the profanities and curses he could think up of, Arthur eventually fell silent. Although he was still angry at the god as she had skewed his original intentions into something that would be pleasurable for her to watch, there was nothing much he could do about it. He had already been reborn, after all.

With that, the only thing he did after he felt like he had cursed her to the brim was to turn silent. Sure, there was also the fact that he was despairing at his current situation, being an object that couldn’t even move. Though, after recalling one of the answers to his questions, he knew that this despair he felt would soon be abated.

And it indeed only took a short time.

Scanning…found traces of owner.

Pinpointing…found location of owner.

The owner of the system has been found and recognized. System integration process beginning…

Just as he was about to dwell in his own thoughts for a short bit, a monotonous voice resounded in his mind, informing him that he had made the right call before he was reborn. However, this slight excitement and expectation he felt towards the thing he would be receiving soon turned into that of fear of anxiety.

‘What if that god decided to skew my intent on this system as well?’ he could not help but worry. Fortunately for him, it seemed that his worries were unfounded as the monotonous voice in his head resounded once more.

System integration process has been completed.

System activating…15%...42%...69%...100%

Confirmed. The Spirit Improvement System is now online.

Whirr…

As faint whirring sounds resounded in his mind after the monotonous voice was done talking, he soon felt something happen. For someone who had lost all five basic senses, such an occurrence was quite surprising. But after noticing where it was happening, his slight surprise turned into that of curiosity as something started to flicker at the center of his mind... speaking of which, did he still have one?

In any case, being the origin of the whirring sound he heard from before, the faint flickering light at the center of his mind gradually grew brighter and brighter until eventually… it burst.

Bang!

Although the explosion sound was quite loud, the effect it had on Arthur was only a change in emotion. His curiosity intensified as the light in the center had transformed into a white cube. Slowly but surely, this white cube rotated around a certain axis as it gave him the faint feeling that this would be his ticket to experience the things this new world had to offer.

“Hello?” Surprisingly, just as he was about to check the system out, a young feminine voice resounded in his mind. At first, he thought it was Theresa mocking him over his choice once more. Though, that thought soon disappeared as the voice asked, “Can the owner of the system, Arthur Arthur, hear me?”

Pondering over the current situation in silence, he wondered if talking into his mind would even work, given how he had lost the most basic of senses. But for some reason, he had a feeling that his voice would go through and reach the feminine voice. With that in mind, he cleared his throat figuratively and finally responded to the voice.

“Yes, I can hear you loud and clear.”

“Where are you?”

“Er… I don’t really know how to answer that.”

“You don’t know? Are you serious? Can’t you feel the existence of the system inside you?”

“Um… by system, do you mean this white cube revolving inside my body?”

“Yes, that exact one! So, where are you?”

“Well, I don't know if you can sense the white cube. But if you can, then I’m pretty sure you can already see me.”

“Eh…?” After telling the feminine voice those words, everything went silent for a bit. To Arthur, it seemed like the reality of that voice’s owner had been shattered. After all, who would expect some inanimate object like a spirit vein to gain a system?

“Correct me if I’m mistaken, but… this small mote of energy I’m in is… you?” the voice asked, finally breaking the silence.

“Yes,” Arthur said in response, only to notice the peculiarity in her words. “Wait a second… you’re inside me? Also… small mote of energy?”

At that instant, multiple thoughts related to certain forbidden topics entered his mind. Then again, those thoughts disappeared a split second later as the feminine voice replied, “Well… yes and no. As for your second question, I’ll answer that later.”

“To keep things short, I am the system, yet not at the same time,” she continued. “To be more specific, I am your assistant and guide in using the system, allowing you to access the system hands-free... though you don’t really have hands in the first place, huh.”

“You can call me the Spirit Improvement System Assistant,” she said, leaving Arthur silent for a bit as he could not help but say, “Don’t you have a shorter name? Don’t you think calling you Spirit Improvement System Assistant every time I want to call your attention would be a bit tiring?”

“I can definitely understand where you’re coming from, but…” she responded as she hesitated over her next statement for a bit. “I’m not good at giving names, nor have I given myself one. If you could give me a name, then that would solve both our problems.”

‘A name, huh?’ he muttered inwardly. If there was one thing he was sure he wasn’t good at, then it was the fact that he was shit at giving names. However, after recalling what the voice called itself for a bit, he could not help but think that there was a name in there already.

“Spirit Improvement System Assistant… combining the first letters of the words together, that gives you the name Sisa…” he continued to mutter. To him, it was probably one of the better names he gave to someone. With that in mind, he asked the voice, “How about it? Would you like me to call you Sisa?”

The Spirit Improvement System Assistant, or in this case Sisa, could not help but turn silent for a bit until a feeling of joy spread throughout Arthur’s mind. “Sisa… I love it!”

“Well, I’m glad you like it,” Arthur said as he let out a light chuckle. “So, since you’re my assistant and guide to using the system, how about telling me how to use it?”

“Ah! I almost forgot about that!” Sisa slightly panicked, though it soon disappeared as she took on a slightly solemn tone not long after. “Well, before I teach you how to control the system, you must first know what the system is.”

“As stated before, the system you’ve obtained is the Spirit Improvement System. Normally, this type of system would be made for those reborn in a cultivation world, specifically those reborn as a cultivator. However, for some reason, this system was tailor-made for an inanimate object like you,” she continued.

“By tailor-made, what do you mean by that?” Arthur could not help but ask. Sure, he knew that the system was modified to be used by a spirit vein. But other than that, he wondered how it was tailor-made for him.

“It’s easier for the both of us if I showed you the system itself,” Sisa said in response. “To access the system, just say the word ‘Status.’”

“Status?” Although Arthur knew that saying the word ‘Status’ was normal when opening a system, it felt somewhat off for him as he was an inanimate object. Because, if you think about it, what kind of stats would the system sho-

[Size]: Spirit Seed

[System Points]: 0

Looking at the incredibly basic status screen that appeared in his mind, Arthur could not help but wonder why the system took the name he had before he died. Then again, he wasn’t someone who would complain about it. Arthur Arthur was quite the unique name, and if he had a choice between making a new one or keep his old one, he would choose the latter.

Following that, he looked at the second line of text, understanding why Sisa told him she would answer his other question later.

‘Wait a second… is Sisa even a she?’ he thought, only to dispel those thoughts as he knew he had gone off a tangent. Focusing his train of thought back to where it previously was, he then said to Sisa, “So this is why you told me you’d answer my second question later. With that in mind, what’s a Spirit Seed?”

“According to what I know, a Spirit Seed is basically the sapling that would eventually grow into a tree or the fetus that would eventually grow into a cultivator capable of rending the skies,” she explained. “In other words, a Spirit Seed is the most basic and most useless form of Spirit Vein there is.”

“Basically, if I were to translate it into RPG terms, I currently have a class made for the tutorial,” Arthur could not help but say, to which Sisa felt like it made sense. “More or less. Fortunately, Theresa also included knowledge regarding Earth before sending me and the system to you.”

‘Yeah. Fortunately,’ he scoffed inwardly. Returning to the matter at hand, he asked Sisa yet another question. “So, with me being at the lowest class tier or something along those lines, how do I improve it?”

“I’m glad you asked.” Sisa giggled before telling Arthur, “To improve your current state…”

“How about you use your common sense for a bit?”
