《Re:Direction The Peak (Cultivation Tale)》CH. 283

Jin did not like it. Being made to wait in a room like that with a few people...It smelled like a potential ambush. He would rather not stay here. He said: "Can't we go wait in the auction hall at our seats?"
The waiter politely bowed and detailed the situation to Jin: "The hall is in the midst of being prepared, Sir"
Jin frowned. The more he thought about it, the more this seemed like an ambush. He needed to get out of there quickly in case it really was one. If all this had been prepared to capture him, it was too thorough. Even though his value might be worth the hardships...
He told the waiter: "We will go back to the party instead then. When will the event truly start?"
The waiter amiably said: "We can have a staff member come fetch you when the time comes, Sir"
Jin nodded and did not waste any more time here. He left back for the bigger hall with Hymin. As they reentered the spacious area, she asked him: "Aren't you a bit too cautious"
Jin answered: "You only live once. Better to be cautious"
She shrugged. She believed this was a very normal event and that He Bi was being paranoid. Then again, she did not know his true identity. She began to have wild guesses about it. Could he be a banned royal or a corrupt official from some sect?
Jin did not let her thoughts drift too long before he grabbed her hand and led her towards the dancefloor. He began to waltz with her, much to her surprise. She did not expect him to know how to dance. As they moved, she asked: "I did not expect such abilities from you"
Jin chuckled. Memories of times he did not truly live but still experience crept up in his mind. The life he was forced to live by his inner demon was not useless. It gave him experiences he would have never had otherwise. Dancing was one such experience.

As for the reason why he decided to show his moves, it was to mingle with the crowd. At the same time, as he moved, he could watch over every direction. It was not because he enjoyed dancing or wanted to dance but because it was the most practical action to take.
Hymin did not let him down as she knew how to dance too. He was not certain whether it was or was not due to her job and it did not matter much. Regardless, it worked perfectly and they danced in good sync.
After five or six songs were played, a staff member came to them and respectfully told them that the 'event' would be starting soon. Jin frowned as he had not seen many people inside the secret bar and not many more went over there. Still, he followed the staff member with Hymin at his arm. He was already in the tiger's den, might as well check out the color of its fur.
By now, while he remained on guard, he was unable to believe this was a trap any longer. After all, the setting was just too much. Even for an individual like him. He could be apprehended far more easily...He was weak after all. He acknowledged that fact. This seemed over-the-top for his own little self.
As they reached the seemingly hidden bar, there were no longer any guests in. Only the staff was left. Their guide led them towards a wall to the right side and after tapping on it in a seemingly random way, it opened upon itself. It revealed stairs going down. The staff member bowed as he said: "We hope that you will forgive us for all this secrecy, dear guest. A different staff member will welcome you at the other end. If you please"

Jin nodded and moved with Hymin. They went the stairway. It was quite difficult for Hymin as there was no light at all. It was pure darkness. Obviously, this was not a place that mortals were supposed to come to. Jin helped her go down the stairs, taking however long was needed. The auction would not start yet anyways, it was probably only the time for the guests to come in...
He hoped so.
As they reached the end of the stairs, there was a guard in front of a door. The man asked them to see the invitation. Jin handed it over. The guard was all smiles as he opened the door and wished them a fruitful auction.
The light from within attacked Hymin's eyes, blinding her for an instant. When she opened her eyes, she saw something beyond her expectations. Even in her imagination, she could never have created such a place.
It was circular and slanted downwards. But it was humongous in size. At the very least, it seemed to be as big as a five-floor building. And all the way down, as the width shortened, there were seats in pairs within small open alcoves. In the very middle, all the way down, there was a podium, likely for the anchor. As she looked around, she wondered how many seats there were in there...
Jin was impressed as well. For a secret auction, this was rather grand. He was also very glad for this meant that it truly was not a trap. He relaxed slightly after seeing so many cultivators already seated here and there.
After a few seconds of them admiring the downward view, an attendant approached them respectfully. He asked for the invitation to guide them to their reserved seats. After seeing the invitation, he was quite surprised for this was a VVIP one. There were no seats reserved for such people, they were given the rights to any seats they wished.
The attendant asked Jin where he would like to be sat at. Jin pointed slightly higher than the middle and said: "Around there"
The attendant bowed and led them to an open alcove over there.
There were two velvet leather seats and a circular desk in front of them, crescent-shaped, preventing any falls, with some kind of contraption he recognized. There were these things in the grand hall of The Peak.
