《Re:Direction The Peak (Cultivation Tale)》CH. 248

This question was bugging him as well. As the ancestor behind the Empire, he was in charge of those orbs. Or rather, it was a game he created himself for his descendants. A way for him to control them and redirect their thirst for authority elsewhere. It protected him and his rule. After all, who could ever collect the hundred orbs? It did happen a few times but it was incredibly rare. This little princess of his still dreamt of succeeding and while he doted on her for she was talented, he had no hopes that she would succeed. After all, that woman had one of those...
Still, it was his duty, in a way, to make sure that things were fair. The orbs were tough but not tough enough that they would resist the void. If this one broke, there would be only 99 for this generation. Fortunately, much like to check on a person's life, he made a token linked to the orbs. It would constantly display the number of orbs out there. If one broke, he would know and be able to replace it. After all, it wasn't like they were indestructible and many did destroy them. Various reasons were behind those destructions but, in the end, they were meaningless as he always only needed to make a new one. This time would be no different.
...If it was broken.
As he checked his token, he noticed that it indicated 100. No orbs were broken. This could have two meanings:
1) Jin never had the orb from the start.
2) That kid was the first champion in history to successfully leave The Peak alive through his own means.
He would rather it to be the first one for the implications behind the second were quite big. After all, Saint Patron Bôrakos did state that he had a soul channel imprint on his palm... If he survived, he would be able to bring back to life one of the esteemed ancestors...Whoever got his hands on that soul... It was like finding a giant spiritual stone mine! The future of a clan would be set. Heck, an entire new super clan could be formed. Just the knowledge from that remnant soul was enough to make such a thing happen if it landed in the right hands.

And if a talented champion like that teamed up with a remnant, what would happen? He couldn't imagine it but it would be worth looking into it. For the first time in the century, he lied to one of his own. He told his young descendant: "It seems like he didn't have the orb"
Did she noticed that he lied? He didn't and couldn't be certain. However, she did not ask further. Whether or not she took actions later, he did not mind. It was part of the game he made. They could use everything they had to get the orbs, and intel was obviously part of it. He did play favorites this time though but whatever. No one would dare blame him for anything...
...
Meanwhile, even though Jin jumped, the other three were still on top of the arena and things would only end once there was but one remaining. As they witnessed Jin jump, even the knight and the dragon paused. They certainly hadn't expected to witness a suicide here. It was so close to the end after all. They rejoiced from it though.
One less fucker to deal with!
And seconds later, they went back at it. This time, the fight was brough to Min-Su, and, maybe due to his turmoil of emotions, he did not dodge it. He went at it seriously. His use of the distortion element forced both his opponents to be on the defensive. They were both smarter than Dae-Jung though and quickly realized the danger of the daggers as well as their weakness. The dragon picked one and threw it over the arena. Min-Su teleported to it and while mid-air sent it back into the arena before teleporting back in there himself.
The dragon was getting irritated. He couldn't throw out the knight, he couldn't throw out the other one either now. He was enraged within and this showed physically with a sea of flames being sent at the other two.

The fire crept up at the knight who didn't budge an inch. Everything died in front of him without even touching his decaying self. He wasn't in a hurry to finish things either. To him, it was only a matter of time before his sword went through the bodies of those two and he would be reunited with his Lady.
To Min-Su, it did not matter either. He simply phased out. That being said, the dragon noticed how the daggers could be melted. He couldn't kill the knight but he could definitely kill the other annoying fly. He thrived to melt the remaining daggers while Min-Su and the knight attacked. The three of them were absorbed in a fierce melee that became a stalemate with none able to damage another.
It was slowly but surely turning into a battle of attrition. And this unfavorable to Min-Su who had the least energy left in him. Of course, he had ways to turn the tables. He decided to focus on the knight. Noticing him doing so, it was likely that the dragon would join in. After all, the dragon probably believed that it would be easier to end Min-Su later compared to the knight. He did fight a few rounds against that living dead.
It went as he thought and the both of them began to coordinate to face off and end this monster. The dragon could not damage him but Min-Su could. He kept forcing the knight to use his swords and techniques related to it. Whenever the element of death came too close, Min-Su phased out only to reappear an instant later and continue his onslaught.
He didn't need to go for a battle of attrition. He would tear down the existence of that thing then slaughter the dragon.

The Priest of Genes
Meet Seth, acolyte in the Church of Virtue. He’ll be a Priest like his father soon, he just knows it. Sure he didn’t inherit his mother’s preaching power, but he doesn’t mind being the secondary priest at whatever temple he is assigned to. Just as long as he has a library. Meet this genetics textbook. Hmm, that doesn’t belong here. It must have come from somewhere far away, I guess something happened to its owner. I’m sure a studious young man who likes healing could go far with this information, whether he wants to or not. This is my first time really writing anything, so I hope you like it! Please let me know if I make any mistakes; I have a new R&D tech job at a genomics company, so I probably don’t edit as much as some people. I’m shooting for two thousand-ish word chapters released on Sundays, since none of the webnovels I read ever seem to update that day. Underserved Market! Genre is fantasy, possibly progression fantasy. Maybe a tiny bit litRPG if you wait a while and squint really hard, but that’s the most I’m prepared to claim. Hedged my bets on the content warnings, nothing that bad. Cover art from A. W. Gelman
