《Re:Direction The Peak (Cultivation Tale)》CH. 215

Jin looked at the statue. He wondered how she truly felt. Why would she be asking him, a champion, for such a favor? Wouldn't it be much easier to get one of the talents to perform the deed instead. There wouldn't be any risks then. He was truly interested in her reasons. She helped him quite a bit already so, as long it wasn't harmful to him, he wouldn't mind helping help her. Still, he wanted to know more about it.
He asked her: "Why me? Why not another youth? You said that many were brought here for tutorship without risks, why not one of those?"
She answered instantly: "Because they have affiliations with other clans and such. Instead of helping me, they would likely report it and use my trust to imprison me for their sole benefits. The remnant soul of an expert who reached sainthood... It has quite the worth"
He chuckled: "And you're fine with telling me this?"
She nodded and explained: "You would never be able to sell my soul anyways. They would tear you apart and steal me from you if you dared try. Even if you managed to sell me, they would silence you right after. Needless to say, it is better for you to keep me with you"
He had to admit she was right. In this world, people didn't mind sacrificing others for their own goals. Even people who seemed good weren't always so and might be hiding some shady darkness within. He was quite familiar with this by now. He didn't think this woman hadn't got any hidden agendas of her own. He couldn't trust her completely and would not do so. But she was right. He would be torn apart before managing to sell her remnant. Who wouldn't be tempted by her? She's a well of knowledge.

He sighed.
He understood her reasons for picking a champion. But he still had yet to find out why she picked him. He decided to ask her since she seemed not to mind him asking questions: "I get why you needed a champion but, out of all of them, why me?"
She answered directly once again: "Twice. You made the impossible possible twice. The corrupted being... It wasn't an entity that should be defeasible by those under the 10th stage. To be fair, only elites under the 20th stage would be able to defeat it. Most cultivators in the ten to nineteen stages would likely die to it. Yet, you managed to defeat it. Twice"
"The second time was thanks to your teachings. There is another reason, isn't it?"
She titled her head and added: "No one believed you could survive. Not a single expert that watched the battle believed in you. Yet, you won. You probably don't understand what this means but that is the reason I gambled on you"
He pondered but couldn't come up with the underlying meaning. He was slightly irritated by that fact but he decided to give up. If she didn't want to say it, fine. He didn't need to argue with the good things. Without her picking him, he would be dead. Or rather, assimilated. Was there a difference? Probably not.
As for the meaning behind her words, she was the only one who knew inside this dome. As the cultivators reached the 60th stage, they began to feel the strings of fate and the possibilities. The law of causes and consequences became less blurry. If all those remnants, who had such abilities, all saw his death and yet he lived, what did it mean? It meant he went against the common sense of the world. It meant he had the ability to oppose the way of the heavens. Maybe the others hadn't noticed because they didn't care since this was mere entertainment to them but she did.

Countering a pronounced fate was a 'miracle' and he did it once.
Then, he made it once more after she helped. Even with her help, it was supposedly impossible.
And what he needed to do to survive and revive her was also something impossible. He would have to continuously create more 'miracles' but she believed he could. Since he did it twice. It mattered a lot that he didn't do it only once. Many geniuses could create a 'miracle' but few could do so more than once in such a short time.
She placed her trust in him because of her belief. And because she was losing patience. She was ready to bet on an opportunity like this one. She couldn't endure time any longer. She hated and loved it. She loved it because she didn't want to die and hated it because it was her jail. As she saw him, hope was created and now, it was too late. Now that she felt hope, she couldn't stop herself.
She looked at him and said: "Any more questions?"
He gazed into the stone eyes and made up his mind. He would help her. He needed her advice if he didn't want to die. He asked: "What do I need to do?"
She smiled brightly. She hadn't misjudged him. He was aware of his situation and rational enough to know that he could only board her boat. She explained to him: "I will create a soul channel between us. Once you're out, it will become possible for you to call my remnant over through a ritual I will teach you. You will have to call me only after finding a pregnant woman on the verge of giving birth though. And giving birth to a young girl. Do you understand?"
It didn't take a genius to add one and one. He asked to confirm his guess: "Are you going to take over a baby's body?"
She nodded seriously and stated: "I will wipe its 'existence' from the inside and grab it for myself"
He frowned. He didn't expect that it would be something like that. He thought that there were ways to make her a new body, not that she would need to steal one.

I can't think of any off of the top of my head, but better safe then sour.Comments, reviews, and constuctive criticizm is welcome, but please do recall that these works collectivly represent a great deal of my growth as a writer.Cover by the wonderful gej302!
