《Re:Direction The Peak (Cultivation Tale)》CH. 38

The test they had planned began with a random member asking him something. Well, every member wasn't some random guy but Jin didn't bother remembering all their names anyways. Still, whether or not this man was a new acquaintance or not, a friend of a friend was a friend and so, he was to be respected. As the question was asked, he would answer. And the question was quite simple: "How have you been doing since joining the sect?"
It was a very open question and a good start to any conversation considering the circumstances. Jin saw no reasons to refrain from being honest and answered: "The food and accomodations are free and great. Cultivation is really enjoyable too"
They certainly didn't expect the kid to bring up the 'free' food and accomodations first. This kid was certainly an unique one. What they didn't know was that he was an older man and not a kid. As one who had lived a very different lifestyle in his previous life, his current circumstances were easily something labeled luxurious.
Being fed, clothed and given a roof free of charge was more than enough for Jin to be happy with the situation. It was after all something that would never happen in his previous life. To no one. As such, to him, he found this sect a very good organization to belong to.
The one who asked the question could only stiffle a laugh at the answer. He didn't expect it and even less so for the kid to be serious about it. In the end, he could only joke around: " Aren't you quite a little glutton? " to which Jin didn't bother answer. He might be one but even if he was, he would not admit it. For it was obvious that a warrior required energy and energy came from intaking food!

Questions were sent his way one after another and he answered them all with honesty. Sometimes the answer were quite shocking, sometimes they weren't but all in all, he gave a good impression to the group.
And after minutes of harmonious chatting between all group members, an elder appeared on the center of the giant stage. Everyone stopped speaking at once. The reason for it was that this elder, while wearing the usual silver robe with orange belt of the inner sect, had something added to it. There was a particular armband displaying a fist inside a sun, much like Jin's pin.
This would certainly have made him curious. If he had noticed it that is. After all, they were so far that it was already a feat to see the man's face. To be honest, Jin had no idea what the guy looked like from where he was. He could see an inner sect elder but as to what he looked like, he was unsure. There were no big screens suspended in the air and cameras linked to it. As such, he could only trust his eyesight and it wasn't going too well...
To be fair, this area was in the inner sect. By the time disciples reached there, they would have a certain strength. At that time, to them, seeing from the top of the arena was not even worth being mentionned. They could see far more further than that. Right now, if they wanted to, they would be able to see how many cracks were in the arena grounds and even whatever small organisms might be hiding in them.
But Jin was different. He had yet to reach that stage. So, he had no idea. Still, since everyone was silent, he was too. He stared at the elder on the ring. Meanwhile, everyone could not only see the elder correctly, they could recognize him as the one in charge of the coliseum. If he was up, then it meant the fight would start soon. And they guessed right.

The elder began to speak: "Welcome fellow elders and disciples of our great sect! Today, we have gathered to witness a duel between two powerful and young disciples of our sect who both reached impressive heights for their age! One has come in hope to snatch a place as a representative for next year's under 30th great tournament! The other is here to defend it!"
It was a voice heard filled with live and bringing huge amoutns of excitement along. It drove the spectators into madness. Jin wasn't expecting such a fervent reaction. Sure, he had been swayed by the entrance speech enough to completely focus on it but those people...It felt like seeing a beast tide inside which all were starving. He certainly didn't expect the refined cultivators to get so wild in mere seconds. Even those he knew were no different.
Sang-Min was screaming at the top of his lungs on the side, jumping on his seat and Han-Bi was clapping her little hands fervently with stars in her eyes. Just how lacking in entertainment were their lives?! Jin felt a little dumbstruck by it and for the first time, no one cared about the expression he made. They were all focused on the ring and the elder.
And the elder, knowing it, was grinning widely as he went on: "Let us first welcome our proud challenger!"
He pointed a hand towards the right side of the ring where, from a door outside it, a young man walked. He was walking relaxedly with a smile on his face waving at the crowd. This guy had long gray hair flowing down to his shoulders, wore the inner sect robe and had a magnificient red saber at the right side of the waist.
Jin couldn't see much from where he was but he could at least recognize that it was a saber. He was an expert on martial arts and such weapons. Even from this far, he would not mistake such things. He was deeply regretting not being able to watch from closer. Saber user's battles were always very intense and enjoyable...
