《PROJECT CYPHER》* V2 (CH 40) - Chapter 63 – Aftershock Ⅲ

Adolf is at his desk when a call comes in. Without glancing up from his work, Adolf presses the intercom and answers, “Yes?”
“Sir, the dead dog has been taken care of. Though we don’t if the dog said, anything to Miss Starr prior to his death. Should we take care of her as well?” The male speaker asked.
“I doubt the dog said anything as he was chased to his death and shot before hundreds of witnesses. But even so, Victoria Starr is still someone, I wouldn’t touch. There are many who followed her father and would do us harm, should we touch her. Now, she is to remain undisturbed. And what of the second dog, has it been taken care of?’ Adolf inquired.
There is a moment of hesitation, before answering, “Sir, the other dog has gone missing.”
“What?” Adolf roared as he glanced up from his work.
“We have searched the entire campus, but the dog is gone. Apparently, the dog has been pulled out of the Academy by someone else. We even tried locating her via her collar it has been disabled. I fear that the 2nd dog has a new owner, sir,” the male speaker replied.
Adolf turns violet with rage, before letting out a soft hiss, “Look into who she had contact with I want to know everything!”
“Yes, sir will do!” The male speaker faithfully answered, before disconnecting the call.
Adolf barely manages to retain his cool, but somehow manages to do so without breaking another desk. Taking a deep breath, Adolf returns to his work, deciding to postpone giving his grandfather any more bad news. The Magei was not exactly in the best of moods at the present moment.
*
Clarise was in a violent mood from the food down to her retainers, they were all terrified of her. At any point in time for any reason, Clarise could erupt and unleash her fury on the unsuspecting victim. Over half a dozen food slaves were dead, three servants, two retainers and-. A final gurgle is heard from the protesting high ranking noble, Thaddeus Dumont as his body goes limp.
A gasp is let out of relief and horror that unconsciously escapes the unwilling participates to Clarise’s crime. Though Lady Clarise was a high-ranking member, she was nowhere near as powerful as the Dumont family. Clarise panics and takes a step back releasing the blood drained corpse of Thaddeus Dumont. The corpse clatters loudly against the floor and remains still.
Clarise gulps as here frantic eyes scramble on what to do to remedy the situation. Clarise shrilly shrieks, “Clean up the body and get rid of the evidence. No one must ever know!” The terrified slaves do as their told as Clarise apprehensively turns away from the scene of the crime she had committed as the blood in her stomach churns uneasily, threating to come back up.
Clarise anxiously returns to her room and roars, “GET OUT!” The food slaves and her retainers frantically rush out of the bedroom leaving her alone. Clarise seeing how tense she is in the mirror tears off her slip and marches into the shower naked. Turning the hot water on, Clarise allows the hot water to pour over her tense muscles. Her mind churns on what she needs to do to be safe and hide what she had done. Her body physically relaxes as the most obvious solution to her problem appears, kill all those that know.

Clarise sneers confidently to herself, before reaching to grab perfumed shampoo and leisurely washing her own hair, a rare instance. To her surprise, Clarise finds the house to quiet to her unease. Unable to open her eyes yet as there is still soap in her hair, she waits. To her relief, a minute later, soft footsteps can be heard as Clarise recognizes the scent in the air, a doe. Her nostrils flare at the unknown scent, a new slave no doubt as there was no hint of fear in the doe’s scent. But she would shortly remedy that.
Clarise confidently instructs the food slave, “Little Doe, have a towel ready for me, I’m about done.” With the last of the soap washed out of her hair, she turns around as water still streams down her face. Clarise blinks the water droplets out of her eyes and through blurry eyes takes the offered towel from the female slave and wrap it around herself.
Clarise glances up and pauses at the shower entrance. Her eyes widen in surprise at seeing an unfamiliar female figure in black garb and a Kaito, the Kid mask leaning against the sink. Clarise eyes flicker to the gloved hands of the female that grip a handgun in each gloved hand. Clarise nostrils flair, catching the faintest of droplets of blood, some human and others from Sanguniem Vorpal’s.
Clarise swallows carefully understanding the situation, before speaking, “What do you want? Money? I can pay more. Power? I can give to it you. Or Sex? I can give you the best of men or if you swing the other way, you can have me.” Clarise dramatically allows her fluffy towel to fall to the ground exposing her gorgeous, sensual body.
The female tilts her head in a judgmental fashion and says, “I don’t swing that way and even if I did, I certainly would know better than to trust a blood whore’s words.”
Clarise grits her teeth at the insult as her fangs glint in the air. “Well, what do you want?” Clarise bitterly hissed.
“I have a question that needs answering,” the female masked woman enquired.
“What?” Clarise sharply inquired.
“Lady Clarise, why aren’t you dead?” The masked female asked in genuine curiosity.
Clarise stiffens at the question and uneasily takes a step back. “What do you mean?” Clarise sharply demanded to know.
“7 years ago, you were present at the Arctic Fox Compound. That day not only were you shot twice in the chest, but every member at the compound was forcibly terminated, leaving no survivors behind. The compound was rigged with explosives and sunk into the icy sea. Yet how are you still very much alive?” The masked woman asked.
Clarise turns as pale as a ghost. “You! How do you know about that?” Clarise stuttered with genuine fear.
“I’m asking the questions,” the figure said, pointedly waving her gun in the air for emphasis.
Clarise glances at the door waiting for her guards to arrive at any moment. Stalling for time, Clarise slowly licks her cherry red lips and decides to answer. “I was pulled out of the compound that day,” Clarise replied.

“Who?”
“They’ll kill me.”
“I’ll kill you if you don’t answer.”
Clarise licks her lips again and wraps her arms around herself, causing her chest to bulge upwards. “I don’t know who he was, but he was a boy with stark white hair. While he tended to my wounds, he said, he had been given a mission to save me and that I was to deliver a message to the Conclave,” Clarise said and paused, “The message was, destroy the humans.”
The masked figure asks, “And what else?”
Clarise hastily says, “There is nothing else!”
“If the white-haired boy had pulled you out and was tending to your wounds, then who was driving the vehicle across the arctic tundra? He wouldn’t and couldn’t have treated your wounds while driving at the same time. No, that posed too much of a risk. Tell me, who was driving the vehicle you were in?” The masked woman asked.
Clarise curses under her breath and says, “It was a man with heterochromia eyes.”
The woman stiffened and said, “Was his left eye midnight black and the right indigo?
“Yes,” Clarise unhappily hissed.
“Thank you,” the woman sincerely said and lifted her arm upwards.
Clarise fearfully slams into the bathroom tile wall and says, “You said, you wouldn’t kill me if I answered your questions.”
“No, I said, I would kill you if you didn’t answer my question, I never promised, I wouldn’t afterward. But don’t worry, this time I won’t fail,” the masked woman replied. Clarise eyes widen with horror, not even having a chance to scream when a bullet round goes through her forehead. Her corpse slides onto the bathroom floor, but nonetheless, for good measure, the masked woman shoots the corpse in the head three more times to be certain.
The masked figure walks out of the bathroom and down the hallway. Corpses of guards can be seen throughout the house and the grounds. The food slaves had been allowed to flee as long as they did not attack. Most of them didn’t and they lived.
A car pulls up in the driveway by the time the masked woman emerges. The masked woman enters the car where Mr. Wilkins turns and says, “So, did you kill her?”
“Yes, and luckily destroyed most of her group. I doubt the survivors will last long, I’m sure the Changeling and Esper’s will wipe out the remainder of the group,” #017 said as she removed the mask. “Though, I am sure the Conclave won’t be happy with who I found dead inside.”
“Who?” Mr. Wilkins asks.
#017 smiles evilly, “Thaddeus Dumont.”
Mr. Wilkins lets out a soft whistle at his girl’s answer. Seeing, #017 carefully place the mask on the floor, Mr. Wilkins asks, “Good. But why the Kaito, the Kid mask?”
“Oh, that. Kaito, the Kid was always his favorite animated character,” #017 replied.
“Whose, He?” Mr. Wilkins pointedly inquired.
#017 firmly replies, “Just drive, I have a call to make.” Mr. Wilkins unhappily does so, despite not having his question asked. #017 rolls down the window and holds a denotator in her hand and presses the button. The earth shakes as the mansion behind them, explodes into the air.
#017 rolls the window back up as debris rains through the air and onto the car. #017 reaches for a burner phone with voice alteration software and dials a certain number.
The phone is answered by a low male voice, “Who is this?”
“I take this is Adolf, am I correct?” #017 said.
Adolf frowns at the unknown voice of the caller. “How did you get this number?” Adolf asked.
“A little bird told me. But I have a proposal for you, Adolf, and all I want in exchange for my services is your dog for which in turn you will receive the luxury of taking credit for the success of having destroyed the cult that was responsible for the deaths of countless innocent students. Does that sound fair?” #017 replied.
Adolf leans back in his chair and narrows his eyes. “I’m listening, but I need proof.”
“Check your email.”
Adolf scrolls over to his email and clicks on the video that is only ten seconds long. The video shows the home of Lady Clarise and a second later a violent explosion. Adolf almost drops his phone in shock and replays the video again. “How do I know the video is real?” Adolf demanded to know.
“Simple, any satellite feed can prove the truth of my words. So, do we have a deal?” #017 asked.
“Deal. But should word get out, I will hunt you down and rip your spine out of your throat,” Adolf promised.
“You can try, but I promise no guarantees. But don’t worry, I will keep my end of the bargain,” #017 replied and hangs up the phone with a faint smile on her lips. She wondered if they would curse her upon realizing whose death they were also taking responsibility for. And for once, she hadn’t been the one responsible for the killing, but alas the true culprit was already dead and the Conclave, would not be pleased nor believe an attempt of the responsible party accusing a nameless agent as the true culprit of the massacre. Someone would have to hang, but the question is whom?
