《PROJECT CYPHER》* V2 (CH 39) - Chapter 62 – Aftershock Ⅱ

In the early morning hours, Professor James Stark, now known as Principal James Stark rushes into the science lab, that was currently the morgue and was being used to house the dead bodies. A group of security officers gathers around an empty black body bag. “Where is the corpse of Lucius Faye?” Principal Stark roared.
The security detail flinches and the security officer unhappily says, “Sorry, sir, but we are unable to locate the corpse. We can only confirm that the body was present an hour ago, but at any point time since then it went missing.”
“One can’t walk off with body especially in a school full of Changeling’s, go and find out!” Principal Stark roared while pointing at the open lab door. The security detail almost trips in their haste to escape Stark’s wrath.
Sighing, Principal James Starks wrinkles his nose at the chemical smell. Suddenly, Principal James Stark stops and recognizes the scent of acid. Following the scent, Principal Stark arrives at a blue tank. Propping the lid open, Principal Stark face twists in disgust at the gory sight. Almost lurching, Principal Stark steps back and shouts, “I found Lucius Faye!”
A group of security members enters in a haste and scramble towards Principal Stark at his shout. Principal James Stark merely points at the blue tank and says, “There he is,” before walking away at a brisk pace.
“Sir, wait,” cried a female voice.
Principal Stark turns around to see the familiar face of Principal’s Conrad’s secretary, Jenin. “Sir, the Chief of Security would like to have a word with you in Principal-, your office, sir,” the out of breath secretary said.
“Thank you, Jenin,” Principal Stark replied, before walking towards his new office.
The office had yet to be cleared of Principal Conrad’s things, but they would be gone within a few hours taken care of by Jenin. A tall muscular figure still combat armor is waiting for Principal Stark, the Chief of Security. The middle-aged man with a mustache and sideburns nods his head in affirmation at Principal Stark.

“Hello, Henrik, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?” Principal Stark said.
“Yes, it has been a while, Stark. I’m saddened to find us meeting each other again under these grave circumstances,” Chief of Security, Henrik replied.
“So, am I old friend,” Principal Stark murmured. “You called for me?’
“We may have a problem with future security breaches,” Chief Henrik grimly responded.
“What do you mean?” Principal Stark said as he crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the sturdy study desk.
“We can’t be certain nor exclude the possibility that there may be radical members of this group among the students,” Chief Henrik growled. “We can’t even exclude other regular students as well as we have found proof that Lucius Faye was part of the attack. Though it is a mystery to me how Miss Starr found about him out. Though I don’t approve of her methods in dealing with the little cocksucker, I can’t say I blame her.”
“Yes, she certainly is her father’s daughter,” Principal Stark drily commented.
“Wait, she’s the devils incarnates daughter?” Chief Henrik incredulously asked.
“Yes,” Principal Stark answered.
“Who would have guessed and here I thought, she was such a nice gal,” Chief Henrik mumbled.
Principal Stark smiles quietly to himself at the comment, before becoming serious. “Back to serious matters, what can we do to minimize the fear among the students. There already many staring coldly at the Sangunium Vorpal’s,” Principal Stark unhappily stated.
“Tell the truth. Tell them that we did find a student conspirator among the students and that he was shot and killed by Miss Starr, Lucius Faye. That should satisfy their need for blood and cool down their fears. Only time can heal the rest of their wounds and as for us, we will prepare better. I’m creating an entirely new task force merely dedicated to watching the ongoing communication among students. If there’s a treacherous rat among them, we’ll find them,” Chief Henrik confidently replied.

Principal Stark keeps his thoughts to himself and says, “Sounds like a good idea. Announce the information and let the students know. Also, watch, how many students are pulled out as a direct result of the announcement?”
“Sounds like a plan. Now if you excuse me, Principal Stark, I will be on my way,” Chief Henrik stated, before leaving the office.
As soon as Chief Henrik leaves Jenin walks in with a pile of papers. Principal Stark had fought countless of bloody battles, killed insurgents with nothing but his bare hands, but the sight of paperwork always filled him with a cold dread. “What’s that Jenin?” Principal Stark uneasily asked.
“Oh, that’s the paperwork that you need to take care of in order to draw a new budget up with the board,” Jenin crisply replied as she tidied up the study desk and neatly placed her paperwork down.
“Budget?” Principal Stark gulped as he asked.
“Oh yes, sir. We need to draw a new budget to cover all your new policy expenses, the hospital/emergency fees, the damage to the ballroom and more,” Jenin cheerfully proclaimed.
Principal Stark looks like an untethered kite swaying in the wind as he takes a seat at the desk. Glancing at the pile of paperwork, Principal Stark faintly asks, “Is this the normal amount of paperwork?”
“Oh no, sir. I haven’t had time to get everything ready. But this is about the normal amount of daily paperwork. But not to worry, sir, I’ll be here to help you every step of the way,” Jenin proudly declared.
Principal Stark woozily nods his head and tries to make sense of the first batch. Trying to understand the typed language that was clearly not English and getting a headache, Principal Stark says, “Thank you, Jenin. But I just have a quick question, this is a list of students who have been pulled out, am I correct?”
“Yes, sir, which is rather good considering the situation. Only 20 students have been pulled out by their anxious family members or guardians, though I expect more than half to cancel their request,” Jenin dutifully stated.
“Thank you, Jenin,” Principal Stark tiredly replied as he signed, dated, and initialed the document in three different places, before moving on to read the next batch. The words almost swim in front of his eyes as Principal Stark prays to anyone either above or below, that whoever, answered his prayer first, he would convert for life. Sadly, those figures remained silent, not finding, James Stark as a worthy devotee.

Nobody's Way
Foreign Thorn: Book 1 For eight centuries, the people of Isla have wanted for nothing. The Creator, Maere, uses Her power not only to keep them healthy and fed, but also to map the direction of each person's future Path - their vocation, role in society, and even the partner they'll spend their life with. In a world where infighting once threatened the very survival of humankind, the old texts say that Maere personally stepped in to help guide Her creations to harmony. All is not well among the people of the northern lands, however, as Jian discovers when she receives her own long-awaited Path. The Creator has chosen to favour some towns, but not others, leading to anarchy and unrest in the east, and fierce distrust between the neighbours who enjoy Her protection and those who don't. After many nights of disturbing premonitions, visions of a face uncannily familiar to her, and a voice beckoning her to "Homeland," Jian decides she needs to find answers for herself. She hires Madrigal, a surly young traveller hailing from an "unblessed" village, to take her to the southern lands. The swordsman is on the run from something, or someone, but Jian has no choice but to trust him. When the two leave the safety of the familiar and meet Quinn, a mysterious boy who seems to know more about Jian than she does about herself, it becomes clear that there are forces besides the old magics, forces completely unknown to the people of Isla, in play. Madrigal and Jian aren't sure if Quinn can be trusted, but they're certain he knows more than he's letting on...
