The walls were crumbling, there were several breaches running along its length, although they were small now, soon they would be gaping holes for the enemy to flood through. Lucifer had sent several groups of ants and panthers toward the mages they proved ineffective.

Very few mages died in the initial ambush because the best knights were hidden amongst the mages, and once the mages learned of the attack waves of fire scorched the land bare, not a blade of grass remained let alone a giant ant.

Below the walls anywhere that wasn’t a direct target for magical bombardment knights attacked, two people would launch a third into the air and over the wall, then one thrower would be replaced and launched over the wall.

On the wall the defenders focused on trying to kill the landing knights or shove them off the wall, whenever there was a free moment they would attack those below with mana crystals or rocks if they had run out.

Lucifer jogged across the wall looking for Wolfram, he was attacked several times, but his enchanted armor deflected such weak attacks. At first, he used his giant axe to cut the attackers in two, or crush them inside their armor. That took too long, so he just punched anything in his way or shoved it off the wall.

He found Wolfram in the thickest and bloodiest part of the battle. The enemies had some sort of magical construct acting as a siege tower, knights poured onto the walls only for Wolfram to dispatch each of them with a single flourish with his rapier.

Lucifer used his massive frame to crash through the enemy knights and brought his axe down on the construct. The entire structure shook violently, the platform connecting to the wall turned to splinters sending several knights flailing to the ground below.

Moments later a barrier formed replacing the broken platform and knights resumed their attack. Wolfram roared over the battle, “there are mages in the center of it, it will keep constructing itself until they run out of mana”

Lucifer yelled back, “do you have any rope”

Wolfram looked confused for a moment, he grabbed a nearby subordinate and sent him to get some rope, meanwhile they both killed anything that dared cross over.

Lucifer received the rope and jumped to the back, Wolfram wanted to know what he was doing, but he didn’t have the time to find out, he focused on the enemies ahead of him.

Lucifer tied a dozen mana crystals around the head of his axe and ran to the side. He infused pure mana into his body and hurled the axe at the base of the construct where it was most armored.

The knights waiting to get into the construct vaporized, their armor turned to shrapnel killing their allies further back. When the deafening explosion finished the construct had a large hole in the side of it revealing the gory scene within. Lucifer couldn’t tell if those were the mages or not because everyone inside had been mutilated that badly.

The construct creaked and groaned after losing its magical support, then collapsed taking a few more lives with it.

Lucifer walked up to Wolfram who was already looking for the next problem and said, “retreat your men” Wolfram looked at him strangely as he continued, “I want them in the dungeon where I can play with them freely, have your men harass them from the rear”, Lucifer thought that the defenders would rout soon anyway, so having them regroup to annoy the rear would be more beneficial.

Wolfram looked over the battle for a while longer before nodding and sending the command along the chain. Once Wolfram’s booming voice sounded the defenders quickly disengaged themselves and disappeared into the city.

Lucifer found the retreat surprisingly efficient, no-one bumped into each other and the defenders dispersed themselves amongst the alleys and roads so they didn’t become jammed, some men were even jumping over house fences and across roofs. Wolfram had obviously trained them to move through the city as a group.

Lucifer took once last look over the wall, killed a few more knights with his bare hands then left himself.

The magical bombardment stopped. Using any more mana on an undefended wall would be pointless. Slowly the Magedom took the walls, they tried to open the gates, however, they found that the gates had been sabotaged and were stuck closed.

Instead, the mages created a staircase of earth over the wall. This took time, but was still easier than blasting the walls apart.

The Magedom army took a short rest then moved directly to the dungeon. They sent people to scout the buildings for ambushes, but most of the buildings were empty, only a few civilians remained. The army leaders took this as a bad sign, they thought that they would be less, expected, considering they moved through the mountain range.

However, they got to the dungeon without a problem, the scouts they sent in gave a worrying report. The first floor was barren, there wasn’t even a tree let alone a rock, even the hills were missing. It was just a flat cave. This wasn’t anything like their intelligence suggested.

Hours passed by as the army entered the dungeon, scouts were sent out and couldn't find anything of note, the floor was so barren that you could almost see the second floor doorway from the entrance.

The army couldn’t do anything about this they could only move forward. The army began to march and once they got halfway through the floor, hundreds of holes opened on the dungeon walls.

Knights surrounded the mages as they prepared for battle.

Large metal boxes rolled out the holes on armored tracks. While the army was confused about the boxes function they opened fire.

The boxes were golems modeled after tanks from Lucifer's world, except they had four machine guns each and their cannons were smaller. Lucifer didn’t expect to need a big cannon for humans.

The surrounding knights were torn to pieces frighteningly quickly, the mages countered with solid barriers of ice, however, the cannons made short work of such walls. The knight's deaths granted the mages enough time to erect an earth wall, however, it was too thin and was quickly taken apart too.

Commands were bellowed and the army bade a beeline for the second floor, while mages occasionally sent magic at the tanks, but the magic was ineffective and the second-floor doorway was too narrow. The leaders couldn’t even guess how many people would be able to get to the other side.

Hundred broke off and ran out of the dungeon, however, they met with the defenders who stubbornly defended the dungeon entrance.

Occasionally a tank would explode, either from faulty munitions, or a lucky magic attack, but there was still too many for the army to deal with.

By the time the army reached the second-floor entrance almost a third of their army was lying on the floor full of holes. The mages began a desperate war to erect the most earth between them and their enemies.

Lucifer thought, ‘I should have put guns in the roof too, and Bigger cannons for the tanks ergg--’

He suddenly received an Earth-mail, the largest one he had received yet and he could feel his consciousness splitting. Then everything went black.
