Lucifer did a list minute mental check while planning, 'I don't know the enemy's numbers or strength, but Since I can't die from this there is no problem going in hard and loud'.
He began infusing mana into his main muscle groups like he had seen Selenia do when she was training, The link to the core allowed him to still have access to the extra computing power that he was now used to, this made the control aspect of the ability as easy to him as breathing, he could feel the power flowing through his body and it felt like he didn't weigh a thing, his muscles itched to move and exert themselves.
The party was slightly spread out, not too far from each other, but not quite close either. Through the gaps in a bush, Lucifer could see something which reflected light that looked metallic, after it moved around he was able to identify it as someone wearing plate armor, he had watched enough adventurers to know anyone wearing plate was important, so he crouched low and with a sudden burst of mana to his legs lept forward.
The ground cracked under his feet and explosions sounded from where his feet previously were, the armored man was only able to turn his head slightly before Lucifer burst from the bush between the two of them sending leaves everywhere.
Lucifer had his dagger prepared to strike any gap in the man's armor but the unexpected level of acceleration caught him off guard, he didn't have the time to look for any weak points before his giant chest barreled into the unprepared man.
Armor crumpled under the absurd force and bones shattered, the corpse flew several meters before impacting into a nearby tree with a sickening wet thump.
The others turned to see what the noise was, some found a man that was several sizes too big to be human and the others saw a corpse that was mangled beyond recognition, limbs pointed in different directions, the armor looked like it was crushed under a bolder and whatever was left inside of it was bulging out of the crumpled armor in a squishy crimson mess.

Just as they were reacting to his presence Lucifer noticed a woman in robes, he injected mana into his arm and the trowing dagger and flicked the weapon towards her, then dashed towards the closest enemy.
The throwing dagger entered the woman's chest before she could react to the situation, then the pure mana inside the dagger fused with hers and became unstable.
Lucifer pushed his body forward toward another person who looked three parts terrified and seven parts confused, another party member saw what was going on and tried to cover for his comrade, he raised his spear and charged forward, however, Lucifer was faster, he arrived before the confused man regained his senses and grabbed him with both arms.
At this point, another explosion blasted the area and spread a red mist, the pure mana in Lucifers throwing dagger had become unstable after it quickly merged with the woman's mana and exploded, shrapnel of bones hit several of the closer party members, one shard entered through someone's eye socket and they crumpled to the floor a moment later.
Now the spearman charging at Lucifer was about to land his attack when Lucifer suddenly turned with the confused man still in his grasp, the spearman tried to change the direction of his attack but it was too late, the spear went through mans body, hit a few bones and stopped with the spear point sticking out the back of the mans leather vest.
Lucifer threw the impaled man aside taking the spear along with him and charged the spearman, the disarmed spearman backpedaled to gain distance so he could draw his secondary weapon, however, Lucifer had already reached him and used his height advantage to elbow drop him from above.
The spearman's collarbone shattered, his shoulder colapsed into his abdomen leaving his head hanging where his elbow used to be.
Suddenly a sharp pain entered Lucifers back, he turned around and saw an archer notching another arrow, Lucifer immediately threw his remaining dagger towards the archer.
The dagger flew through the air and caught the archer in the shoulder before flying away into the darkness.
Now that his shoulder was injured the archer wouldn't be able to use his bow properly so Lucifer turned his attention to the last two remaining members, one held a shield and pick while the other used a spear.

Once Lucifers eyes met theirs they dropped their weapons and sprinted in opposite directions leaving the archer to fend for himself, Lucifer scoffed and prepared to chase the faster of the two, but when he tried to push mana into his muscles an excruciating pain passed through his organs.
Lucifer cursed and reached behind him and pulled the arrow out of his back, to his surprise he found that the arrow only entered an inch deep into his enhanced skin and muscle, he sniffed the arrowhead and couldn't detect any poison, then he realized that this was mana exhaustion, he had seen several mages die in his dungeon while grasping their chests in agony when they overused their mana, or tried to use mana when it was already depleted.
He had asked Ahri about the phenomenon before and learned that a normal human would not be affected if they lost all their mana, but if someone who practiced magic whether it be though magecraft or warrior body enhancement lost all their man, they would feel excruciating pain and suffer from organ failure when their organs which had previously adapted to use mana to function better suddenly ran out of it.
Once Lucifer knew what the problem was he used his connection with his core to pull a small amount of pure mana into his body, his body absorbed the pure energy greedily and once he saturated his body with almost enough pure mana to destroy it he dashed after the people who ran.
The archer was easy to find, all Lucifer had to do was follow the blood trail and he found the man huddled up in a tree hiding.
Lucifer kicked the tree and infused pure mana into the base of the tree a couple times before leaving.
Several moments after he left the mana reached critical mass and exploded, the base of the tree vaporized and almost half of the tree became splinter shrapnel which cut apart the immediate area, the archer fell from the tree and hit the ground breaking several bones, then passed out from blood-loss from his earlier wound and the newer puncture wounds from the explosion.
Lucifer had no intention of allowing the other two to escape even if his reason for attacking them was flimsy at best. Normally he would have trouble tracking 2 people in a dense forest, but he was the dungeon master of this forest.
He released more of his consciousness and formed a map of the dungeon in his head, the shield user was running towards the entrance and the spearman was hiding in a rock crevice. Lucifer intended to rush towards the entrance and wait for them there but it seemed that wasn't necessary. Instead, he charged towards the shield user.

A man was frantically running through the dark forest trying to escape a monster in human form, the rest of his party was wiped out without even being able to retaliate and he wasn't dumb enough to stick around to see if he could do any better.
He was getting close to the entrance, to safety. However, the uniform thumps were getting louder and he could tell they were getting closer, his heart rate increased as he realized they were footsteps and whatever was making them was gaining on him.
His legs felt like they were on fire at this point but he pumped them even harder as the fear blocked the pain and allowed him to run faster than he ever thought he could. He wished that he could breathe in more air because it felt like he was suffocating regardless how much he gasped, but he still pushed on despite the discomfort.
There was a sudden Boom and something grabbed onto his leather armor, he struggled to slip out of it, but before he could it grasped his entire head, he felt his neck forcefully extended for a moment then everything went dark.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The spearman's struggle was even shorter, he heard a grunt then the rock crevice he was hiding in closed.

A Standard Model of Magic
The world ended, and magic came back. The part our parents didn't expect, was for Science to break on reentry. Twenty years after the apocalypse, with our nations dismantled and hidden continents unearthed, a new generation has grown up in the wreckage of 21st century civilization. For us, the fantastic is at our doorstep and we have had no choice but to fight back. Meanwhile, the laws of nature bend and break at the whims of immortal gods, all of which are now dead and none of which are content to stay that way. But we cannot afford to give up. We are the stewards of a rewritten century, in which a little luck and a whole lot of magic might make anything possible – maybe even a world better than the one we lost. A Standard Model of Magic is a complete overhaul of my old story A Storm in the Fall. I'm afraid I was unhappy with the LitRPG elements, which I don't mind reading, but I apparently loath writing. Sorry. Once I'd made the choice to decouple the story from the OF that inspired it and reconfigure the magic system to my satisfaction, little of the original plotline survived. I will be salvaging most of my original characters, and I will keep some elements which are endemic to the genre, but that is all. I don't have an update schedule which I can commit to yet, but I will try to maintain a weekly pace.(This is currently RoyalRoad exclusive, since I'm lazy. If you find it posted elsewhere, it wasn't me and it wasn't with permission) If you're interested, I've set up a discord.

Solstice Anthology
A collection of short stories I've written over the past few years, the centerpiece being "Solstice" itself: On the Winter Solstice, the wind whispered. It roared and blew across the world, and reached even the Heavens above. With it, the great cold of winter flooded across that higher plane, and the gods staggered. They felt the golden dust of their divinity drift away from them, and the message of that wind became clear… This Winter will never end so that the Earth will.
