The rogue answered "Jeffrey" with a sigh of relief at the retreating sound of skittering insects.

"Who do you work for," asked Lucifer then he waited for the vague answer to follow.

Jeffery hesitated for a moment then replied "The adventurers guild", the moment he finished speaking he was filled with unimaginable pain so intense that the pain was the only thing that truly existed for that moment to him, after it passed he fell into a coughing fit on the ground and felt a slight tingle in his hands, when he looked down he found that his fingernails had dug so far into his palms that they were bleeding and some of them were bent backwards at the roots, he absentmindedly pushed them back into place then suddenly remember the dungeon was still watching him reminding him why he had just gone through such agony.

Lucifer watched the man go into his own little world after 2 seconds of activating the soul binding then once Jeffrey seemed to jump to attention Lucifer continued the interrogation, "If you lie to me you will suffer" and before Jeffery could finish a word of reply Lucifer continued "I consider half truths to be lies also, I know that you were not sent by the guilds I am not an idiot and I would appreciate if you did not waste my time"

Jeffrey thought for a moment but decided not to speak, Lucifer activated the binding again this time for 4 seconds, then after the man came to he spoke again "I consider omission to be a lie too" and saw Jeffrey's face contort into anger before he continued "since you don't seem to learn very fast I think it will be more painless for the both of us if I just tell you the rules now, 1. don't lie to me 2. Don't try to manipulate me, whether it be by information control, emotional manipulation, subtle suggestions or any other means your tiny brain can think of, this includes not telling me things I would want to know if you did not know.

How am I going to enforce these almost impossible rules you didn't ask well I will tell you... torture, of course, something I am sure you are familiar with now" Lucifer saw the blood drain from Jeffrey's face as he started to tremble at the thought of going through that again.

Satisfied with his response Lucifer continued "now you may say that torture does not work, someone would say anything to make it stop, and I would agree with you there, however, that is simply because of bad programming and has nothing to do with the effectiveness of torture" Jeffrey looked confused as Lucifer continued his lecture "if you want to make torture effective there has to be a reason for the person to tell the truth rather than anything that will make it stop, so here is a better program I thought of while you were unconscious.

You will suffer until you give me the answers I want and it will only stop or slow down enough to keep you alive, once you give me the answers I will check their validity... and if I found out that you lied then the suffering you will experience will make what you just went through seem insignificant" Lucifer voice took on a slightly more amused tone "like how you don't even feel your hands right now or even flinch at moving your fingernails back into place because you have felt something so much worse than that small amount of pain is now insignificant to you"

His tone became more menacing as he continued "You may be thinking that there could be nothing worse than what you had just experienced but I can tell you that your wrong, so horribly wrong in fact that even I don't particularly want to use such methods unless I am forced to, however, I will if I need to

and if your still having trouble imagining what will happen to you it's not your fault because humans have such shallow thought processes, after all, allow me to enlighten you with a little thought experiment to show you how limited your imagination is so you will know that there is always something more than you can possibly imagine

Think of a watermelon, its shape, colour, texture, taste if you want, easy right, well now think of 2, then 3, then 4 and try to imagine them in as much detail as you remember the first, quite difficult in comparison to just 1, now think of 10,000 watermelons, you can't can you, if you are smart you will be thinking of a gigantic mountain of watermelons which is a nice shortcut that your brain uses to imagine things far out of its scope, so in this mountain of watermelons are each of the watermelons in said mountain round or are you just imagining a mountain with a green skin instead.

If you can't even imagine something that you know of to any depth then I'm certain that you cannot even begin to imagine what I will do to you, if you don't tell me what I want"

Once Lucifer finished he realised that Jeffrey had fainted... he sighed the realised that the man may not even know what a watermelon is in this world and said to himself "he could of been thinking of anything, watermelon could mean clowns here for all I know... well I'm sure a mountain of clowns is more terrifying than a mountain of melon and would be just as difficult to imagine so I guess the point got across"

Once Jeffrey woke up Lucifer asked again who he was working for startling the man again, after stuttering for a moment Lucifer finally had the name of the person who sent an army after him... and a target.
