《The fool's paradise (dungeon novel)(complete)》The Door 19

John moved closer to the door slowly, trying his best to look for any potential traps, as he was moving the rest of the group slowly surrounded the door and raised their weapons in preparation for anything that would come out of it.
When John got closer he realized that there weren't any handles to hold onto, so he tapped one of the carvings of a demon that protruded from the door with his sword scabbard.
Relief washed over him when nothing happened so he grabbed the sculpture by the some of the shells of the monster on the door and started to pull. Slowly at first then with increasing force, he pulled, trying to open the door but it wouldn't budge at all.
After growing frustrated at the door he thought that the door was just jammed with its huge weight and the fact it may have never been opened before, so he began to push and pull on the door rapidly trying to loosen it to no avail.
Just as he heard something make a soft clicking noise Bryon called for more men to come help open the door, drowning out the noise John was trying to listen to.
Meanwhile deeper in the dungeon, Lucifer floated next to Selenia and projected an image of the mercenaries attempting to open the door. Lucifer with a voice tinged with excitement said "watch this hehe this is going to be fun" and murmured "I wonder how many are going to die" while smiling to himself devilishly.
Selenia chose to ignore him talking to himself and asked "so what does that door do exactly, nothing good I am sure" in a calm manner, Lucifer just remained silent causing Selenia to pout "fine it will be a surprise I guess"
Watching the screen they watched the group of men trying to pull on the small outcroppings the door provided. When suddenly five of the ten men pulling the door screamed and jumped backward shaking their hands and wiping their bodies down while looking around in a panic, confused Bryon called out to find out what happened as he saw the men grabbing at their coats and quickly taking antidotes with pale faces.
After seeing them using antidotes he realized that there must be a trap on the door, interested he walked past the pale faced members and inspected the door.

Bryon started cursing loudly after he saw the door in more detail, the carvings had depressions in them to create details which his men were used as handles, but inside the crevices were insects that blended into the dark stonework of the door.
He had never seen such a devious trap where the door itself is a living thing that attacked you, enraged that the men trained by him fell for such a simple trap he ordered the single mage under his command to douse the door in fire before proceeding.
Lucifer started cursing himself when they started to burn the insects he specifically planted into the doors, then Selenia looked at his direction with a face that said what did you expect them to do?
After the door had been doused in a fire the men began trying to pull the door open again. However, the door would not budge at all, now frustrated Bryon called them to regroup and rest while he figures it out.
Bryon stood there for quite some time before he came to a realization made him curse the dungeons mother in more than a few languages.
Lucifer was floating there watching him curse then started to curse back in whatever language he could think of because he could understand everything that Bryon was saying. While Selenia just shook her head silently at both these idiots.
After Bryon calmed down he told his men to open the door from the other side while looking exasperated. after realizing that the hinges on the side they were trying to open it from were fake the group made more progress.
They washed down the other side with fire to not make the same mistake again then started pulling on the other side when they pulled togeather the door began to slowly creak open.
Just as a sliver of light could be seen from between the door, the sound of something falling onto the ground could be heard from the other side. Then immediately the door swung open almost instantly, the men pulling the door didn't have time to get back in time and were turned into meat past before being flung across the dungeon.
Even the men near the edges of the door did not get off easy, as when the door flung open any remaining insects that still lived were sprayed onto them.

Bryon stood there in a daze looking at the aftermath of the door, Seven men died instantly from the giant springs now visible behind the door, leaving blood splattered everywhere. One man died from the poison of the insects that were dislodged from the door trap, he couldn't reach for his antidote in time because of a nasty paralysing poison mixed with a few other insects biting him all over and the door shoved him so far away that he was found dead before anyone could help him.
Looking at the inside of the door didn't raise morale like normally would when the band managed to get inside heavy fortifications, instead, it left them solemn as they looked at the dead bodies of their comrades. They just thanked the gods that they weren't picked to go in first.
Meanwhile, Lucifer was at the end of his dungeon laughing maniacally, Selenia looked on stunned at what happened and said "The door itself was a trap... and not only that it tricked you first and bit you causing you to become frustrated. Even I may fall into that trap, it wouldn't kill me but would definitely do some damage", she looked in Lucifer's direction and her fear of him became a little bigger at that moment and his joyous laughter didn't help.
Bryon looked at the door with a seriously while thinking that he could not go back empty handed after taking so many losses, so he pointed at a random person and commanded him to go through the portal.
The man that he pointed at jumped when he was chosen and only after seeing Bryon's face did he reluctantly start to go towards the portal in the middle of the now open doors.
He looked at the entry and the doors now made a small passage a few meters wide leading to the portal, with the skeleton carvings on the inside of the door creating a passage of the dead giving this man the creeps, at the halfway point the skeletons suddenly became alive and used their clawed hands to grab the intruder.
The group charged forward to attack the skeletons but their swords were very ineffective against the fleshless skeletons causing another person to be grabbed. Bryon called the men to get back and attack with spears and staves.
A short time later all the skeletons were shattered into little pieces on the ground but the two men that were grabbed had already been torn to pieces.
Bryons patience began to grow thin at the constant failures and commanded another person at random to go forth.
Being pointed at by Bryon the man shuddered then he began to move towards the door then suddenly drew his sword and charged at Bryon screaming that he was trying to get him killed while madly swinging his blade.
As the man entered the range of Bryon he was stabbed in the back with a spear. Suddenly having a spear grow from his chest the man struggled fiercely trying to pull it out. It only took a moment before the other got out of their daze and attacked the traitor who took several fatal wounds before staying down.
People began to murmur and some claimed this place was cursed. Bryon felt as if his head was going to explode and shouted to everyone to shut up then pointed at John and told him to go next, John looked back at him without moving.
Bryon looked back at him and suddenly smiled and started telling him of the rewards he will receive when he succeeds and convincing him that there are only a limited amount of traps a dungeon will use in a room.
At first, John was unmoved but after some flowery words from Bryon he started to change his mind, He was thinking that there can't possibly be any more traps on the door left to spring.
Now with newfound confidence and rewards to look forward to he started to look towards he began to edge his way towards the portal using his spear to hit anything and everything that looked suspicious.
After testing the waters his confidence was now unwavering so he stepped through the portal.
The moment his foot came down before even his face made it out of the portal he stepped down onto a pressure plate, click.
John had enough time to blink before a large blade swung across the entire inside of the portal.
All Bryon and his men saw was John stepping into the portal then his body falling backward out of the portal with his mid section almost completely cut through.
