《The Immortal Mutant Teen》Chapter 42- Children

Present Day.
Acheron was seating in the passenger seat looking out the window while Rose silently drove home.
"You can ask whatever is on your mind Rose, you know that," Acheron said,
Rose tightened her gripped on the steering wheel before taking a big breath of air in like she was working up the courage to ask something,
"How old are you Acheron-sama?" Rose said while biting her lower lip,
Acheron laughed,
"I am not entirely sure Rose, but I know I am a lot older than that mural we saw back there"
Rose just silently drove for a while, she needs to wrap it around her mind how old that meant,
"… and that illusion… what I saw was the Original Family, wasn't it?" Rose said,
"That's right, the blind girl was my very first daughter, Hellen, she was beautiful, wasn't she Rose?" Acheron said with a smile on his face,
Rose was starting to bite her lip again; she felt her chest hurt as she remembered the emotions she felt throughout the whole illusion.
'Such pain… Acheron-sama lives with it every day, doesn't he?... no, not just that pain… the pain is immeasurable as he has watched his every son and daughter die throughout the centuries' Rose thought, tear started to well up in her eyes and threatened to fall.
"There's no need to cry Rose because for everyone that I lose I get to spend another lifetime with another one… I love all my children and though it always hurts to lose one, there will always be another I will learn to love with all my heart… never replacing the ones before, just being added to this massive family tree" Acheron said with a smile as he turned towards Rose,
Rose's face was covered in tears, she loved Acheron so much, not only as a woman but as someone that was taken off the streets when she didn't have anything or anyone to live for and then she was given a family that loved her and protected her, no matter what happened.

Rose had pulled over to the side, she had begun wailing her heart out as she threw herself at Acheron's arms.
The last time she cried this hard was back when she was a child and had killed her first human, she was so scared at that time and Acheron was always there, protecting her and loving her with his all-encompassing warmth.
But it was not just her, all her brothers and sisters felt the same way.
There were times when Acheron was scary, but those times were few and far between. The times when Acheron showered them with love, they would sometimes feel suffocated just thinking about it.
Even now, as all of them are adults and have their responsibilities, there is not a time when Acheron doesn't appear in their minds.
"shh, shh, its okay Rose" Acheron whispered,
"Let's eat some ice cream when we get home, okay?"
Rose wiped her tears and snot all over Acheron suit, but he didn't really care about that, he can always get a new one,
"Acheron-sama! I'm not a child anymore!" Rose said while pouting her beautiful face,
"Oh! So that means you don't want your favorite? … Cookie and Cream~~" Acheron said in teasing voice,
Rose eyes lit up,
"I lied Acheron-sama! Let's eat ice cream when we get home!" Rose said with enthusiasm,
"Okay, let's go home," Acheron said,
Rose put her seat belt back on and began to drive again, this time with a smile on her face and bopping up and down as she hummed a song.
'Not a child? Puh-lease!' Acheron thought, a wide smile formed on his face as he looked upon Rose's current state,
Acheron and Rose soon arrived in their secret base, as they went down to the second floor, they found a beautiful woman with blue hair wearing a sundress and apron, waiting for them in the living room.

"Welcome home, Dear, Welcome home, Rose," the woman said,
"It seems your done with the update, Athena," Acheron said,
"Yes, I have, my love, also, our children have been born," Athena said lovingly,
'CHILDREN!?!' That word was like a clap of thunder that went through Rose's mind,
She grabbed Acheron by the shirt and started to shake Acheron hysterically for answers.
"A-che-ron-sa-ma! What does she mean by children?!?! How can you have children with Athena before me?!?!" Rose exclaimed while still shaking Acheron around.
"C-c-c-calm down Rose!... Athena and I created new AIs together, so, in a certain way, they are our children" Acheron said trying to placate Rose.
Rose calmed down but she continued to glare at Athena, though she knew she wasn't technically alive, her personality irked her to no end.
"Please name our children and give them purpose, darling" Athena said as she waved her hand and 3 holograms of 3 children in different colored cradles appeared before them.
Acheron walked up to the pink cradle on his left, he looked down at the hologram of a baby girl that was looking up at him,
"You shall be Artemis, you will be in charge of Defense Protocols," Acheron said with a smile on his face,
The baby girl smiled, and a flash of light flashed through her now pink eyes,
Acheron walked to the one in the center, another little girl but with a purple cradle,
"You shall be Freya and you will be in charge of Logistics," Acheron said,
Once again, the little girls' eyes flashed and turned a light purple, she giggled towards Acheron, making him in turn, smile back at her,
Then he walked to words the last baby girl, she wore a mean look, and stared at Acheron like she wanted to fight him,
"Feisty one aren't ya? You shall be Hela, and you shall bring enemies to their knees, you will be in charge of all Attack Protocols." Acheron said,
Hela smiled and laughed as her eyes flashed black like a demon, definitely loving her purpose in life.
After he named them, they disappeared, Athena looked towards Acheron,
"They would now be downloading their respected programs… they are growing up so fast! Aren't they, darling?" Athena said,
"Uh sure," Acheron said,
"Well, Rose, let's go get that ice cream shall we?"
Rose still feeling a little weirded out by the whole scene that just happened, she shook her head to dispel the thoughts and agreed with Acheron,
"Yeah! let's go! I want you to pamper me lots!" Rose said,
"I can't have you trying to steal my husband Rose…" Athena said,
"Shut it! Acheron-sama is mine!" Rose yelled at the roof, where Athena's voice came from,
Rose followed Acheron to the kitchen and grabbing her favorite ice cream to share with him, they spent the rest of the night playing around and bickering with Athena.

The Glyph Queen
When Winnie was thirteen, her settlement taught her how to fire a rifle. Her school practiced drills in case raiders came, and the town grew crops in their greenhouse-adapted homes, which were the only places warm enough during the worldwide nuclear winter. The Lakiran empire invades—a corporate-born nation overseen by their corporate-born queen, Victoria Paladino. They ride silent planes whose repulsion field veered bullets away. Three years of occupation later, an exemplar visits—a member of Victoria’s oversight committee rumored to read minds. He tells Winnie that she may have a unique mental power, or a flair. At the empire’s capital, the queen herself tutors Winnie to help her reach the full potential of whatever power she may have. Meanwhile, in post-war Nigeria, a streetwise teenager named Naema sees a different side of the empire. Between corruption and oppression, everyone lives in squaller. People fight over assembled food pastes. She too is told she has a unique flair, not by the empire, but by a fugitive woman who is the last vestige of an ancient witch coven, and she knows a dark secret about what the exemplars do to people like Winnie and Naema. Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
