《Narutoverse: Cultivation Style》Chapter 44: A Slim Chance

Fire raged and thunder pealed both within and without for Lin Feng.
With the joining of the Kage of the other nations and their subordinates, his situation had gone from bad to the worst.
Not only were they steadily chipping away at his defences, they were causing him to divert attention from the tribulation to control the sand to repair the dome.
Now, the tribulation guided by the remnant will of the Kyuubi was wreaking havoc in his mind.
He knew that his will was the most important in this situation so he was intercepting the lightnings that seeked to destroy the earth but that meant that the volcanoes that represented his emotions were left unguarded.
More and more of them erupted within his mindscape, covering the skies of his mind with the haze of anger.
He wanted to just rush out and slaughter them all.
But he clenched his teeth and persisted, his gums bleeding from the force of his jaws.
His eyes were bloodshot with repressed emotion.
Often a stray bolt of tribulation lightning would hit the waters in his mind, permanently erasing some of his memories, leaving him with gaping holes in his recall.
He protected the important memories as well as he could, slowly losing the names and faces of the ones who had just made a passing impression on his life.
The Devil path leader he had made his first contract with.
The other disciples of the Grand Architectural sect.
The courtesan at the brothel who had taken his virginity.
All of them, all those memories gone… never to return.
He was left a lesser man as he felt a profound sense of loss as parts of him were sliced away.
It was like death by dismemberment… just slower and even more cruel.
The void within his soul compounded with his rising anger brought him to the brink of collapse.

Outside, dark red chakra began to seep out of his body and cover him in a shroud.
His eyes turned red with a slit pupil.
In the clouds above his mindscape, the Kyuubi’s will rejoiced and redoubled its effort.
It finally saw a chance of victory.
It gathered a large amount of the lightning and directed it at him.
A white pillar connected heaven and earth.
The ground melted, volcanoes erupted, water steamed and winds howled.
Yet when the dust cleared, the damage was much smaller than expected.
Lin Feng’s soul body looked up at the figure of the woman standing in front of him shining with a six-colour brilliance.
It was Pakura. She had managed to transfer the power of the bond and used it to bring her soul body into his mindscape and block the strike.
The total energy of the tribulation was limited to the soul intensity of the tribulation transcender.
Thus, after this strike nearly one fourth of the tribulation was exhausted.
The Kyuubi roared unwillingly but soon it was pleasantly surprised as new dark clouds began to form and merge with the ones already there.
By interfering in the tribulation, Pakura had initiated her own.
This was why it wasn’t possible for others to aid during this tribulation.
“Snap out of it!” she screamed at Lin Feng.
“I could feel your unstable emotions through the bond and came here… what do I find? You giving in to your emotions and nearly dying in the hand of a beast. Are you going to let a mere animal beat you!?”
Lin Feng staggered up and looked at her.
She had somehow used the Karma principle to protect them both, deflecting the majority of the strike onto the mindscape.
He had lost another chunk of his soul but at least, his core consciousness was still there.

As long as he was alive, all was hopeful.
Her consciousness body seemed dispirited, exhausted after transferring a principle level strength with her newly strengthened soul.
He sighed and looked up at the thicker and darker clouds that were forming into a loose shape of a nine tailed fox.
It seemed that due to the mixing of the tribulations, the tailed-beast had gained even more control over it.
If it succeeded in killing them both, it might even be able to truly substitute for them and even grasp the karma principle.
Such were the dangers of soul confrontations.
The winner was king and the loser forever erased from the world, his all taken by the victor.
Lin Feng concentrated his thoughts into winds that blew across the sky messing up the control of the Kyuubi and preventing it from gathering strength into another strong attack.
The diffused lightning, he could deal with.
The concentrated one? Not so much.
Lin Feng asked through gritted teeth, “Did Kaguya teach you anything useful for this situation? If not, we are both going to die and that bastard is going to take over our bodies.”
Pakura clenched her teeth and forcefully pushed past the repercussions of overdrawing her soul to use a principle level attack.
“Nothing in particular but I had recently been studying how to develop a suitable soul sutra. I have progressed in theory but… I have never put it into practise… my soul isn’t strong enough.”
Lin Feng thought briefly before reassigning a portion of his soul through the bond, stripping it of his own influence and leaving only pure soul force that poured into Pakura’s consciousness body making it more substantial.
It was only possible to do this because the bond made it so that in essence the both of them were one soul.
It made Lin Feng weaker but that also meant that the Kyuubi’s controlled tribulation clouds reduced and the new tribulation clouds popped up which were due to Pakura’s tribulation.
The total amount of the tribulation was fixed but by shifting the soul force around, he could cause a part to break away from the Kyuubi’s control and using his Aeolian thoughts, prevent it from absorbing them again.
Thus, the amount of controlled tribulation had reduced and the rest of the uncontrolled lightnings were diffuse in nature and thus easier to deal with.
He said, “I can only delay for some time… try to complete your sutra as fast as possible. If you fail or take too long, we won’t survive this.”

Ebony Chitin - Adventures of The Hive
Ebony Chitin - Adventures of The Hive is a story centered around a Hive mind bug elf, and her favorite human-dwarf mutt Richard. The story will shift perspectives between the two, as well as other members of the Hive. Follow along on their adventures for; the friends they make, the enemies they slay, and the questions they seek to answer. Thank you for reading, as always. ^.^ Afterword: Hello there everyone, and welcome back those that have already read the first story. If you are new, don't worry too much about the first step of the series. Truly, this second part aims to cover most of what was done there. Those that have read it will know a few secrets and plot points before we see them. Though it shouldn't detract from your reading of this one. Honestly, the first one was a bit rough, but do as you will. I will warn that this will tackle some serious topics and might end up getting rather explicit in terms of what is done or seen by the characters. There is a bit to cover, so I'll explain what I can between chapters without overloading anyone, hopefully. -Cover Art drawn by Cozie [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

The Crisis on Planet 9
Welcome to the dream colony Planet 9, where the streets are stained by blood and the buildings are filled with human remains. The creatures roaming among the abandoned cars and flying vehicles resemble almost to perfection the mindless cannibalistic zombies born from the fictional nightmares of mankind. The cities were built in the retro style of the 21st century, but the technology of the 24th century is ever present, mostly within the bodies of those mortally challenged monstrosities. After all, what turned them into these things was not an evolved organic virus, an alien disease, or some sort of magical artifact, it was the corrupted and reprogrammed nanobots within their bodies. Originally, they were meant to heal them and help them access the tech around them, but now they were the origin of this disaster. Among the rotting dead and the Nano-Z, as the survivors called them, Kardian Pandora awakens two months after getting bit by one of them. A young teacher at the local Resonance High, foolish and naive in his own way, but now driven by the Sapient AI in the nanobots inside his body to hunt down other Nano-Z and learn how to survive. For now, his only goal is to become strong enough and rejoin his students and fellow colleagues, foolishly hoping to somehow be able to get back to the time when the undead did not rule the streets. Will Kardian be able to survive in this new savage world or will his naive outlook lead him to a dead end? Volume 1 can be bought on Amazon: Resonance High

Second Wind, legend of Pandemonium (Finished/Incomplete)
The developers of the worlds leading VRMMORPG Edge Online have decided to shut down its servers after over a decade. Shugireth Darkstar, the leader of Pandemonium, Edge Online's top guild, suffers from a deadly disease and his end is near. He hasn't left his VR pod for 5 years, as the medical nanodroids at the hospital takes care of him. Without Edge, he will die, because his physical body has already been all but destroyed by the sickness. Seeing no light at the end of the tunnel, Shugireth Darkstar, the Master of Pandemonium, stubbornly stays behind as the servers shut down... If that was all, we could end this story right here. However, that was only the beginning of the legend of pandemonium. The prelude to the movement, if you will. Shall we see what happens next? -------------- Some notes from Me (The author, gasp surprise): I first wrote this (100k) as an experiment. I saw the advice about having foils for overpowered MCs, and I watched quite a few lectures on writing. I wanted to test things out for myself and see if I could carry a story through other ways than only relying on physical conflict like some thrillers do. Thus this might lean a bit towards slice of life with a romance subplot, but I don't want to give my story away so read it if u want to know more. This was basically never intended for anyone else's eyes but my own, and written to explore writing as a process. This wasn't my attempt at writing a good book, but it turned into something that I think might interest some people, so I decided to pop it up here. It is slightly old so my style and writing skills have advanced considerably since I first started this thing. Having said that, I think it's pretty readable, but I am very interested in how other people will receive this. Please feel free to criticize it and just in general shoot me some feedback on what you think. It contains light Litrpg elements, not heavy table spam, it's just the basis of the world. Although I like that sort of thing, this was written before I even knew of Royalroad and hadn't considered litrpg much. Some of you may recognize that it was slightly inspired by Overlord. Also, the Tags for sexual content and traumatizing content are there as a precaution on all of my stories pretty much, even if my story does not contain any of that at the moment. I can't really know what the future will bring, but in the case of this story I do know a little bit, since I wrote 100k words before posting it here. And I just posted it on a whim because I figured some readers on Royalroad might enjoy this story.

Aeternalis
One born of nothingness. A world born of everything. To return all to nothing. Or surrender to everything. A man born into an infinite world, trying to find his path to the top. Trials and tribulations come from friends and foes alike until all bow before him. ------------------------------------- Author here! This is my 3rd story on RoyalRoad, the other two having long since been dropped years ago. They were a mess of ideas and had no real substanence to them, leading me to begin hating writing them and eventually just stop writing altogether for about a year and a half. Finally, after reading hundreds of thousands of pages of novels, from low fantasy to sci-fi litrpg's to thousands of pages long xianxias, I finally feel ready to write a real story that isn't a cesspool of ideas blended together. I plan to see this out to the end, as I already have the first few major arcs planned out unlike my other stories where I thought of ideas as I wrote. This story takes place in a world with a litrpg system, as per tags. This isn't a VRMMO or Reincarnation story. The main character exists in and is from said world. There are some differences from other litrpg's which will be explained in author notes in the few few chapters. I plan to publich 6-7 chapters a week, each 2-3k words long. If i fail to do so I will create a back-log I have to eventually make up but as of writing this it's the summer for me so I'll have plenty of time to write. Enjoy, and welcome to the world of Aeternalis.
