《Celestial [A Progression Fantasy LitRPG]》Broken promises

From getting unexpected work dropped on me by my family, falling sick and the stress resulting from the delay in my writing: I have come to an understanding.

I can't make promises that I fail to fulfill.

None of you know that the reason I started writing is to combat my own mental issues, mainly severe depression, stress and anxiety.

In the beginning I hadn't planned on releasing it online, having it only as a private project to get my mind working in directions helpful for my improvement. As the chapters kept getting written though, I thought it sad that none other than myself could enjoy it. If there was even a slim chance that my work could provide happiness to someone else, shouldn't I take it?

Despite the few negative comments, reviews and other feedback I got in return, the appreciation largely outweighed it; Making my choice of not keeping it to myself a good one.

Here is where I slipped up.

The positive feedback sidetracked me from my original purpose in writing the story to begin with: My mental state.

I made promises on deadlines for chapter releases I could theoretically complete, had nothing gone wrong. This added a bit of stress to my work, nothing I wanted or needed, and when I subsequently failed to deliver on my promise it became overwhelming.

Stress and anxiety has had me writing and rewriting, scrapping segment after segment as my focus died and depression resurfaced anew.

I'm not saying this to give an excuse, but to explain. I've myself been on the reader's end of webserials; Wondering why the author didn't do this or that.

Now that I know this perspective myself, I aim to remedy this mistake.

I won't make promises on chapter release dates and the like going forwards. I'll instead release every chapter on Patreon the moment it is written instead of waiting for a specific date. This also goes for Royal Road and Scribblehub as one new previously advance chapter becomes free to read. In case of delays in my writing due to external issues I'll try to inform you in advance, keeping any disappointment on the lack of new chapters minimal. If there is a longer period where I won't be able to write at all, I'll set the story to show as [Hiatus].

I hope you'll continue enjoying Celestial, no matter if it's on Patreon, Royal Road or Scribblehub.

Cheers,

Dynorion
