《Settlement of Safehaven - A Hearthtree Series》Chapter Eleven

Ann took Gema under her wing and they hit it off. Keeping us in meat and furs, inseparable friends after a week. Joseph and Martha move into one hovel and Ann and Gema moved into another. The creeks started dropping in level. So made it easier to build a five-foot thick wall ten feet high along Granite Creek. I finally got a bed in my hovel a week after Joseph and Martha settle in and overslept on my first day using it.
Ann pulled me aside, “I have been talking to some people I use to group with?” Seeing me look puzzled she started grinning pulling out a marble. “This is a chat stone you can talk to others if you touch it to another stone. You can get one from any temple water basin. I was talking to Kari about what was going on. She is a Druid, she and several others keep getting push out of areas they want to settle in. Too many people in the area, they want to know if they are welcomed here? They hate bullying and thugs and they are willing to help.”
“Any earth mages?” I laugh, “Yes, they can come, hope we still here when they get here.”
She pauses looking into her stone. “She is level six, just received a gate spell to a stone circle in the Forlorn woods to the west of us. She does not know how far west of here but she can port a group there and they will try to be here in a few days.”
“Tell her yes, we can’t fight off players bandits without help. I been busy building and not leveling up if they need me to build a building I will.”
“I told them about your village here it is a beautiful place. All the building are based off your temple design.” She said, “Kari said they have two mages in their group and will get Earth magic spell to help you on building walls.”
“Viking and roman mix, I want a place that feels welcome and safe.” Feeling relieved. “Ann just make sure your friend doesn't betray me please.”
“I know Kari from Earth, grew up together and we both won a place on this ship. She is a botanist that had a green thumb was always growing gardens, I got into land management and here we are. We both wanted to find a place to test our ideas on surviving. She went west with a group I head north to scout. The Imperium has been pushing us out of the area because we took nonhuman characters.”
“That not going to be good I doubt the AI's are not going to be happy with this. We suppose to all get along to survive.” shaking my head in disgust. Your human or is it you run with nonhumans?
"Guilty by association," she said.
I got one of the stones from the temple and paired it to Ann. A few days later I got more of the wall along the Fall creek done. Ann told me her friends made it to the Druid circle, they had a large fight with some wicked walking trees. She had to gate back and port back half of her people that died. saying that she can see a sea to the southeast, less than a mile away. There look like several small islands one with a ruined tower on it. Climbing the tower I check west and southwest. Not seeing the ruins I use my water scrying and after an exhausting hour I reaching my Mana limit. I spotted the island she was talking about.

“Ann I spotted the tower southwest of us about twenty to twenty-five miles. If they follow the seashore They could be here in a few days unless they want to head due west to cut off some time.” I said. Looking west toward the wayside with my scrying before the time is up I see several wagons. A group of men in armor was walking around, and spotting Leo before the spell ended.
“Tell your friends that I spotted the bandits a day out by wagon at the wayside to the west.”
“I told her, she said they could be here in a day if the pushed it. She said her two mages can be here in a few hours, they have water walking.”
“That would help, also make the ten people I needed to make a settlement, Thanks.”
Three of the young goblins became adults a few days ago, Tarla had me on hand to find a Class for them. I voice my opinion on letting the adults pick their own but the four woman insists it was the Goblin way. Two males one was beefy and stronger than the others so he was granted warrior class using a spear. His name was Dar. The other was thinner and like fishing with a spear He took the duel class Fisherman and Spearman, Kas was his name. Demere got sick after two days awoke with a Shaman class. Show off healing and lightning powers.
“Okay the mages on their way,” Ann said.
Heading to the temple, tossing a silver in the basin and pray.
“Worried Jack?” Seeing Frigga standing there.
“I killed a player, I know he spawned again but all I thought was to not allow a slaughter happen again. Just like the village that my family was at. Before I was put on this ship. I can not allow them to hurt those under my care. How do I fight those that can come back? Killing them will not stop them, jailing them they just kill themselves.” I said.
“There is an ability on the settlement. That is called banishment, you have to capture your attackers. It will send them their original city. They cannot approach your city sphere of influence without a state of war or raid. That requires being a town or kingdom. They could set up bandit camp to raid a town. But the rules are that they can not occupy a town nor can they destroy a hearthstone or tree. After twenty-four hours they have to leave the settlement. At which point they cannot attack again for one month. Also once they attack they must capture the settlement in twenty-four hours or leave for a month. Each time you repel an attack the city gains more fame and influence and in some cases a chest. Each time you lose, you lose fame and influences. Losing it all, you could have your stone or tree destroyed or taken. All the building must be replaced or you drop down to the next level in town or settlement.
“Okay, what is a city sphere of influence?”
Laughing, “you really been out of the loop, for a settlement type that you have. There is a half a mile radius that under your domain. You can farm, build and do whatever you want also wild creatures are low level. High-level creatures can enter but the feel the urge to leave after so long. Each level of settlement increases your range by a half mile up to a maximum of five miles. At which point you are a village, you gain up to another five miles you become a town after that a city. So if you are a level three settlement anyone you banish cannot enter your sphere of influence. If they enter they lose three percent of their health every minute until death. Reading the book on settlement in your tower would answer your questions earlier.” Laughing as she fades away.

I turn and see Martha standing at the door with her mouth open pointing “was that Frigga!” I nodded as I passed her,
Martha loyalty increase by 500 neutral
Couldn’t help myself as I said, “It is her temple.”
Cora and Firebrand show up three hours later. Seem they were chased by giant water spiders, sea serpents, turtles and fish. They looked exhausted.
“Hi! I’m Jack Stonewright welcome to Safehaven, shaking both of their hands. Cora was an elf, tall with blue hair and eyes, wearing a blue robe and a blue staff, she was a water mage. Firebrand was a redhead elven male wearing red robes and had a cool flaming staff. Found out they were brother and sister.
I walk over to the Hearth Tree.
Mesa-la spoke, do you wish to create a settlement?
“Yes, please,” I said.
First I must ask all the adults if they wish to join the settlement.”
Do you wish to join this settlement? YES/NO?
They all responded, “Yes”
You have full fill the requirements of 12/10 people, 1 civil building and four hovels.
You know an owner of a settlement, what do you wish to name your settlement?
Settlement Name?
“Safehaven.”
You name your settlement Safehaven? Yes/No?
“Yes.”
3000 Experience earn
DING level 4
You are now leader of Safehaven a level one settlement, your sphere of influence is half a mile radius.
Ten level one guard has appeared! You can now build a town hall. Wall can be upgraded to a level one wall, do you wish the walls upgrade? YES/NO?
“Yes”
The wall along the west side changed.
Gate 1 Defense, Health 50
West wall 5 Defense, Health 100 Do you wish the north wall to upgrade to a level one wall? One thousand stones require you have one thousand and thirty stones. YES/NO?
Puzzled, Mesa-la it said I have one thousand and thirty stones to use on a wall, I don’t have any stones.”
“You let your elemental clear out all the stone foundation and rocks in the area. He then piles them to the east of here near the creek.”
I said, “Oh, then yes to wall.” To the north, the small wall grew and shimmer. Until a fifteen-foot-high wall ten feet wide replace the smaller wall.
Feeling happy as I look at ten Viking guards in leather armor and bronze spears and shields. I sent them to the gate and walls.
Turning Cora and Firebrand. “Thank you. There is a lower level of a mage tower over there that you can stay in until we build a tower. It has four rooms below that I clean out a month ago, Joseph is a furniture maker if you need anything, I’m sure he can build it.”
Walking over to the basin at the wayside with the stone wall surrounding it I cast scry on the basin. Seeing only seven men in the camp to the west. I contact Ann using the stone. “Missing three people from their camp I figuring they sent spy’s to check us out.”
Ann response, “I will check along the woods and road, I think I can spot any.”
“Okay be safe, be sure to bind here and tell Cora and Firebrand to do the same.”
“Will do, boss,” she laughed.
Putting the stone away. I check the gate. I bump into something, rolling to the side I fire a fireball. The fireball hit someone that bounce off the wall burning. My elemental slammed into the person on the ground as two guards ran up. Leaping forward I pin him to the ground with the help of the guard, recognizing the cursing as Leo.
“You can’t let it go, Leo,” taking his backpack and empty it out. Taking both of his bronze daggers I had my elemental bend them, all the while he cursing me. I had the guards strip him to his underwear, he fought them hard trying to get loose. Dragging him away from his stuff I slap him.
“I, Jack Stonewright do hereby banish you permanently from Haven.” A red glow form around Leo as he disappears.”
Thirty minutes later Ann called over the messaging stone. “I killed one, wasn’t trying to, I caught the other twenty feet down from the bridge with a vine snare. I will be bringing him in about ten minutes.” About ten minutes later she had the man draped over her shoulder when the guards let her through. Striping him of everything and dumping out his pack. Bending his blades and toss them back into the packs.
Ann asked, “why are you bending the blades?”
The backpack and blades are soul bound because a thief can steal or pickpockets your content of the pack. Unless it is soul bound like those rings he wearing and the boots. Checking his stone and seeing the same names as what was on Leo.
“I, Jack Stonewright do hereby banish you permanently from Safehaven.” A red glow form around Dash as he disappears.
“And when you banish them in their underwear?”
I shrugged, “why not.” I grin as I walk away, “eight more to go.”
It was quiet during the night, I was up at three in the morning and headed to the gate. Figuring something will happen before dawn. An hour before dawn one of my guards on the wall died from a fireball. A second hit the gate.
Jason the guard has died! Respawn in 48 hours. The west gate has received 2 damage, 48/50 left. A Bandit Raid has started!
