“Since that day they called me once and told me off for snitching on them to both you and mum before proceeding to insult Nat again. After that, they never called or even apologised to Nat.” I told him.

My dad sighed. “Did you inform them?”

“Nat tried to move away from my life dad, thinking she ruined my life by being in it. She changed her identity and everything to hide from me, but I managed to find her. When I found her, she was crying for feeling so useless and worthless.” I explained what happened to dad.

“Holy crap! Is she ok now?” He asked me with worry.

“Yeah, I managed to calm her and get her to understand I can’t exactly live without her. We both cried a lot that day.” I told him. “I am not going to call the people responsible for causing her to be in that situation. I don’t want to see her crying again like that. Hormones or not."

Dad nodded seeing the rare serious face I showed in front of my parents. "Besides, she has nearly forgotten about that day, I don’t want to remind her of what happened that day to her again especially when she is pregnant now.” My dad sighed once more and leaned back closing his eyes.

“You know I used to face constant harassment from them when we didn’t have any kids either." I looked at my dad in shock.

"Julie had asked me so many times to move away from them, but I stayed here not wanting to keep her away from her parents for me." Dad looked at me before giving me an apologetic smile.

"In fact, it was their idea to adopt a child seeing we didn’t have kids so long after our marriage. In the end, it was them who found, you and convinced us to meet you. They were ecstatic to see that you were a musical genius." This conversation was going on a weird path that I had never gone before with my parents.

"You know what the funny thing was after Julie got pregnant?" I shook my head to his question as a question began going through my mind at this moment. 'Did my grand parents chose me for my parents after realising I was some kind of musical prodigy? Were they after me for my talent? Did they just want to show me off to people?'

"I don't mean this in any rude way but rather than being happy about getting another grandchild or worried about Julie's health, they were more happy and concerned about you. That was the reason why they even bothered to come visit and take care of Julie. They didn't want your studies to be affected at all with Julie here." I looked at him in confusion.

A memory came to my mind. 'How about you try a grammar school?' It was my granddad who had suggested that idea to me. Not to mention at every party, they would focus on me rather than on any of Jack's achievements. Every time I went there as a child they wanted me to play the flute when there were other people there.

Nothing made sense for their actions and behaviour in the past.

"Me? What about me is worth celebrating more than Jack's birth or their own daughter's health?" Seeing my confusion my dad smiled sadly.

"You know you used to be a lot like them until you went to New York." This piece of news shocked me.

"What? How? I was nothing like them." I defended myself only for dad to shake his head.

"Cold, logical, selfish, desiring only your own happiness, ignorant of other people's suffering..." My dad listed on making me stunned.

"You knew?" I asked him.

Dad shrugged his shoulders. "We are your parents, what do you expect?"

Seeing my mouth wide open he smiled as he shook his head. "They were happier about the fact that they finally had a genius in their family than a grandchild. To them people are just tools to show off as long as they hold their family name.” My dad told me in disgust. A part of me was relieved that I no longer saw people like that, or I would have to be ashamed of the disgust my dad showed to those kinds of people.

“You always ask me why I am so strict on Jack don’t you?” I nodded to him.

“It’s because of your grandparents. They keep expecting more of your brother. They are very old fashioned. Sure, they don’t show it to you guys, but they constantly nag Julie about his grades and things like that a lot."

"I am unable to see her getting told off like that and became strict on your brother. He probably hates me for that, but it is better than seeing the true face of the people you once loved more than anything shatter before you.” I could see a certain weight had fallen off his shoulder as he told me everything.

I had seen several rotten kind of people in the world and knew the kind of people that could exist. But I never expected my own grandparents to be like that. It's always like this. You never expect the worst kind of people to be inside the people closest to you.

“Why do you keep in contact with them then? Why not just move away from them?” I asked him in slight anger for putting up with such rotten existence.

If I had knew about them before I would have kept them away from Nat from the beginning. In fact I would have kept my parents and Jack away from them as well.

“If I had done that, then you and Jake would have been left with a life without any grandparents. My parents are dead, so there was no choice for me.” I was about to argue against that.

“Trust me David, the presence of grandparents is quite important in the life of a child. At least you fully experienced it before you realised their true nature. That is good enough." He sighed in relief. "We only have to deal with them for few more years until Jack grows up. After that, we can move away from them.” Dad looked into my eyes.

Several, odd behaviours in the past made sense: my mum and dad's submissive behaviour to all my grandparent's requests, why people rich as them would prefer adopting a no-name 7 or 8 year old rather than an infant, Nat sensing something odd between them etc.

At this moment, I didn’t know what to say to him, so I told him what came to my mouth. “At least my children will have the best grandparents,”

This earned a smile from him. “That Julie and I, will strive to be.”

"Hahaha!"

I looked up the stairs from the couch, hearing the constant laughter and chatter. Looking at dad I asked him. “What are they doing?”

“She bought some pregnancy kit as soon as you told us. Probably giving it all to her and showing her how to use them along with some woman talk and advice.” He answered me with a smile.

“So how is Jack doing now?” I asked him.

“Your advice worked surprisingly well when I started giving him more freedom. He is doing pretty well in school.

He is very interested in graphic designing and stuff like that. I bought him some drawing stuff and things like that to encourage him.” Dad informed me.

“Oh. Does he like drawing or painting?” I asked him.

“I think both. But he hates using inks, pencils and stuff like that. He has been talking about saving up enough to buy some kind of drawing pad or something. Just hope he doesn’t lose his focus on his studies as his GCSE’s are pretty much here.” My dad told me.

Suddenly an excited look passed through his face. “Since you are here why don’t you tutor him?”

Well, that was unexpected. “Sure, glad to help,” I told dad as I ordered the material to make the best drawing pad for Jack to be delivered to our new home.

“Do you want to eat out today? We were just going to have pasta for supper. We didn’t exactly plan anything special since we didn’t know you were coming today.” My dad informed me.

“How about letting me cook? After all, you never tried my cooking before have you?” My dad shook his head.

“There is a first time for everything after all.” We both laughed and walked to the kitchen to see what we had.

“You are almost out of everything.” I pointed out.

“What part of just having pasta did you not understand? Both of us were too lazy to go out today.” My dad said in annoyance.

“Want to go out and buy something then?” I asked him to which he shrugged before he put on his jacket.

“Julie! David and I are going out to buy some things for supper!” Dad shouted to mum upstairs.

“Ok! Come back soon!” Mum shouted back.

We quickly went and the necessary items and came back home and got ready to cook.

“You need me to do anything?” Dad asked as he looked at me, while Nat and mum came down.

I flipped the knife in the air and caught it just to see him panic. “Nope!”

“Dad let him do it himself. We will only slow him down if we help him.” Natasha told my dad as she stood behind him.

“Ok but you are gonna stay 5 meters away from this kitchen if he keeps playing around with sharp knives like that.” My dad pointed at me to which I smiled and stopped flipping knives in the air.
