《Unlimited Evolution》Chapter 9

Logier was yet to awake and it’s half a day already, I know because I calculated the time. From my experiences of magic usage these few days, I had found a unique way to increase my INT and WIS, thereby my total MP. All I had to do was to continuously use Cast illusion until I run out of MP and then wait patiently for it to replenish. My regain speed was quite slow, when my MP was 5, it used to take a whole ten minutes before I could refill the bar. Right now, however, it takes me 27 minutes to refill the bar to its maximum whilst my full MP was 15.

Thus, I concluded that my regen rate was calculated as twice of my full MP subtracted by WIS. That many minutes it takes for my MP to refill. Twice of fifteen was thirty and my WIS was two, by subtracting it from the product, it gives 27. And it exactly took twenty-seven minutes to refill my MP bar to its brim. After this, I continued to use my skill repeatedly. When I run out of MP, I would go and devour one of many goblin bodies and refill my stomach and again continue the same process. As such due to this repetition, I managed to increase my INT to 10 and WIS to 5. Therefore, my full MP became 25 whilst it takes 45 minutes to refill the bar.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of a target, I couldn’t level up Cast Illusion.

Speaking of the target, the goblins seemed to have gotten silent recently. Even though Logier and I went to rampage around their outskirts, no retaliation came yet. We even killed a few of those green things. Goblins were never this docile. Initially, I thought it was because of Logier’s deterrence, but I was wrong. There was something else stopping these green things from retaliating. For some reason it made me feel uneasy.

Boom!!

Crack!!

Suddenly I was pulled out from my reverie by a few resounding explosions. Looking out I saw Logier was still snoring away, so there was something else making those explosions. Again getting curious, I decided to go look for it. Sneaking around and sticking to the shadows, I moved around until I reached the corridor. Craning my neck through the edge, I saw two human girls were fighting with a bunch of goblins. From my perspective those two were very beautiful, could easily be passable as some campus belle or prom queen.

Unfortunately, they both looked to be in dire straits. Especially the green-haired one, she looked like her life had been squeezed out of her. The other one, the one with long blonde hair, although she was hanging in there pretty well, I could tell she was also on her last legs. Besides them, I saw many goblin bodies strewn across. Some bisected, some burned to crisp, and some had cuts in their whole bodies. The number of bodies, while nowhere close to the number Logier killed was still coming close to it. From this, I could imagine how violent this fight had been, especially when these two human girls went against these goblin’s mass tactics.

“Cathie, run away while I hold these things back. You can go on anymore!” I heard, also surprised that I could understand what they were saying, the blonde one shouted at the green girl. However, the girl shook her head and replied while clutching her stick tighter, “no, I would rather die than leave you behind.” Then she raised her stick atop her head as her body started to glow green. I could tell whatever she was going to do wasn’t something she would normally do.

“Cathie, stop it, please! Any more and you will die from overexertion of magic usage.” The blonde girl slashed apart a buffed goblin that sneaked on her and shouted towards the green girl. Unfortunately, the green one wasn’t in a mood to listen to anyone.

I saw a huge green ball conjured above her head and subconsciously backed away. That ball of green light was emitting a dreaded light that warned my monster instinct. The lady dropped the ball over the mass of goblins attacking her causing a loud explosion of green light. The explosion wiped out more than twenty percent of goblins surrounded them and freed the blonde girl from her bind.

She came running and held the green one whose name was supposedly Cathie, “you… look what happened to you… you could have run away and brought some help…!” she was on the verge of crying while clutching the body of a haggard-looking green-haired girl. Her hair had turned white slightly while her body slimmed away unnaturally as if she had starved for months.

“I couldn’t just leave you behind, Leah. You and I both know what those disgusting things would do once they catch us. I couldn’t let you be spoiled by those vermin. Now that I have turned to this death is the only thing waiting for me? Leah, please run away. I will use my remaining life force and stop these bastards, you… you have to run. Bring people over and take revenge for me.” Cathie, the lady with green hair smiled with her scrunched up face while she caressed the blonde one’s cheeks.

Gu!! Kiii!!

Unfortunately, this touching scene was destroyed by the goblins who were shouting and screaming while inching closer to Leah step by step. Even though I was a spectator, I still felt angry at the interruption.

“Run, Leah… you have to run.” Cathie shouted and stood up from Leah’s hand with much difficulty. The blonde hair girl looked mortified and reluctant, in the end, under Cathie’s repeated urging she ran away while crying her eyes out. Now alone, Cathie smiled serenely at the bunch of green things that wanted to pursue Leah but stopped by her. I couldn’t help but wonder, why could she smile like that although death was already written all over her face. How can she smile at the face of death and so peacefully at that…

Frankly speaking, this made me curious. I wanted to know how could she sacrifice her life for others, and why was she so happy about it. I was leaving in a society where selfishness had become a second nature of people. Forget about strangers, even friends wouldn’t back down from stabbing you in the back when the situation calls for it. Yet, these two girls, they were so selfless… why?

Anyway, leaving aside philosophical musings, I decided to help the girl. As to why you guys wonder… isn’t it obvious, she was a human. Even though I had become a monster, my heart remained that of a human. I couldn’t just stand aside and see her dying when I can at least save her from these goblins. Therefore, I decided to help her.

The green-haired girl was facing seven goblins at that time. If I hit each of one with a Cast Illusions spell, I would lose 14 MPs. And it would immobilize these green shits for the next 1 min and 47 seconds. That much time was enough for me to pull her into the place we had taken up as our hiding place.

Pointing my finger towards the bunch of goblins, I started to mass cast “Cast Illusion”

You have used skill Cast Illusions. For the next 1 min and 48 seconds, the target will be under your illusion spell.

Since the time my skill reached level 2, the notification also changed from ‘immobilized’ to ‘under your spell’. The fundamental difference between these two could be seen when I made them see a vision of her running away towards their place and the bunch of green fools started to run back as if scared away from something.

Cathie looked surprised and felt odd.

“Kiku” I called her. When she looked towards me, I showed her a hand sign and pointed repeatedly towards the dark corridor while signaling her to follow me.

“You want me to follow you?” she asked, her voice was shaky as if she was unsure of what happening before her. Then her eyes widened and her mouth hung open wide enough to catch a fly. But soon after, probably she felt hope she decided to follow me and using her stick as walking pivot she came towards the direction I showed her.

While she was following me, I was calculating the time in my mind. When we reached the corner where Logier was sleeping, I could hear her gasp and her footsteps halting. I knew what she was thinking so I turned around and signaled that there was nothing for her to be afraid of. Perhaps it was because I saved her the lady gained a form of trust towards me, or perhaps she already resigned herself to death so she didn’t mind the presence of orc anymore, whatever it was, she followed behind me after the brief pause.

I took her to a place behind the orc and signaled her to take the place to rest. She understood what I wanted and quietly walked behind the sleeping orc before huddling to a corner. As for whether she could survive or not, it completely depends on her.

“Thank you Little Imp” Cathie tried to smile at me, but with her dried-up face, it didn’t look as endearing as it should be. Anyway, I just nodded at her and sat between her and Logier, in case he wakes up and thinks her as an enemy.

She was completely at ease, or perhaps that’s what it seems to the outside. She might be fully on guard and was just waiting for when I show my ‘true color’ before finishing me up. Fearing this, I maintained a safe distance from her and sat down until she could recover.

In any case, it looks like I found my first ever human ally in this world.
