《A Soul's New Home》A Stay in a Village 7

After finishing our meal that night, I watched Sun continue doing her summarizing while I'm sitting on her thighs.

Or should I say lap, is what she called it.

Night joined as well, helping Sun out while feeding me slices of an apple.

I also took this opportunity to ask her about where she had gotten those other unfamiliar ingredients that she brought. I especially emphasized the apple fruit.

She told me that the villagers are growing them and that some of the trees around here have apples growing from their branches.

I don't know how plants do that but it sounded pretty amazing. Only now did I realize how amazing plants are, to grow food like that.

I asked her about how they do that and she said that these plants are blessed by the Goddess of Nature.

It seems to be the main belief regarding how plants make fruits and vegetables.

After all that, we retired for the night.

Today, we, or at least, they slept a little earlier.

Before going to bed, they said to me to wake them up if I hear about a goblin attack and that I should never ever go out and kill them.

When I asked the reason why, Night said that if the humans, who are guarding for the night, were to see me fighting those goblins in the manner that I do, they will think of me as a monster as well.

I can understand that. After all, Sun and Night were afraid of me when I saved them that time.

So, rather than killing those pesky goblins in front of the humans, why don't I just kill them before they even arrived in the village?

Sounds like a perfect plan to me and no, I will not wake them up like they said I should. It feels like they'll stop me if I do, considering what they suddenly became today.

As I was appreciating the warmth while I'm inside Night's embrace, I could faintly smell some goblins approaching the village.

Form how silent it is from the outside, I assume that the human guards hadn't seen them yet.

Thus, after carefully removing myself from Night as to not wake her up, and getting out of the bed, I headed towards where those goblins are.

After a short sprint, I arrived inside the forest.

They are still in the forest but they're fairly close from getting outside.

From the smell of their rotten blood, I could estimate that their numbers exceeded ten. More than what I had fought before.

On a side note, I also removed the clothes that I was wearing before. I placed it hanging on a nearby tree. Don't want that to get stained with goblin blood. That also means that I'm naked right now.

Now on to the situation.

As expected of goblins that attack at night, even though we're still far away and that there's barely and moonlight entering the forest due to the canopy of leaves, they still noticed me and begun to approach my direction.

I readied myself and run towards them.

Using the momentum that I've built up, I jumped up and landed a kick on one of them, and sent that goblin flying away until he crashed on the nearby tree.

I suspect that he died or just fell unconscious when it didn't move.

With this, the goblins had gotten angry and they all attacked at once.

They formed a circle, with me in the middle and begun to come closer to me with caution.

I learned my lesson from this. If ever I get in this position, I should immediately get myself out of it. It'll only end in me getting killed.

Before they're able to completely cover me, I kicked off the ground and sent my fist to the part of the circle with the least goblins in.

I did manage to hit the goblin and force myself out of there but the goblins next to the one I kicked managed to hit me with its sharp fingernails.

I heard that goblin give out a disgusting chuckle so I threw the body of the goblin that I kicked towards him, knocking it down to its feet, along with the one behind it.

After I did that, a goblin tried to pounce at me, its claws pointed at my direction. Seeing that, several other goblins did the same.

Before they could even get to me, I managed to hit three of them from the air but the other two had latched on to me and started to scratch at my skin.

It hurts a ton so I desperately detached a goblin off of me and threw it to the others but those who I didn't hit rushed at me, doing the same thing.

With another one still clinging to me, I'm afraid that I wouldn't be able to shake them off with that many of them.

And it hurts.

Perhaps I shouldn't hold back here. I was thinking of doing this cleanly with fewer body parts scattered around since that'll scare the humans if they saw it but right now, it couldn't be helped.

Crushing the skull one that's clinging to me with my right hand, I blocked the first goblin that pounced at me and crushes its skull as well.

With the two bloody goblins on my hands, I threw towards the rest.

I managed to stop a few but the others still reached me.

I simply kicked them with more force this time, making a bloody splat on the trunk of the nearby trees.

Blood and internal organs scattered out of their squashed bodies.

Needless to say that I got hit by blood as well.

Obviously, the remaining goblins are terrified but they didn't run away. More so, they became more desperate in their attempt to kill me.

Because of that, they blindly rushed at me, not even doing it as a group so it was easy to defeat them this time.

After a short while, I managed to defeat them while suffering meaningless injuries that had already healed while I wasn't aware.

I also became hungry from all of this.

Of course, I wouldn't be drinking the goblins blood. Too bitter and smells bad.

I have two humans that'll provide me blood if I asked back at the house after all so there's no reason.

But before I get to taste any of that, I first have to deal with my situation here.

The piles of goblin corpse look troublesome to deal with and there's also the fact that their blood and organs are scattered everywhere.

And there's also the state of my body. Although vampires have amazing regeneration, they still get dirty.

Before I might not just care about it but by being clean for a few days now, I feel uncomfortable by having blood covering my skin.

I feel as if I'm becoming more and more like the humans in this world by acknowledging this fact.

With that happy thought, I decided to stack their bodies and deal with it later.

My cleanliness is the main priority.

Before I knew it, the sun was already rising.

The same orange scene that I saw every day, swept across the horizon and illuminated the sky.

Upon a seeing the sunrise like that, I became a bit tired.

After disposing the last body of those goblins into the large hole that I dug, I stretched my arms upward and let out a long sigh.

I worked too much. It would've been better if I just burned them but the human guards would see it.

There's also the fact that there's a lot of trees around. As I learned, the dry wood from the trees is flammable and thus, if licked by a fire, the trees themselves would burn and it would spread from tree to tree.

Basically, it won't be good.

So instead, I just buried the corpses, along with their internal organs.

It took quite a while. About 3 hours.

After all that, I would like to rest, surrounded by body heat, on a soft, comfy bed.

But before all of that, I have to clean myself again in a nearby pond here in the forest.

When I went back to the house, I saw a panicking Sun and a cooking Night.

Upon seeing me, Sun immediately rushed at me and lifted me up in the air, hugging me.

"Where did you go, Snow!? I was so worried!"

"Outside…?"

I think I hear a sigh coming from Night's direction. The way she's cutting the carrots is making a tapping sound on the wooden board so I'm not too sure.

"See, Lilia? She's perfectly fine."

"Why aren't you a little bit worried!?"

"Snow's way stronger than us after all."

"Did you forgot that Snow almost died before!?"

"I'd say she almost got killed because we're there. If she's alone, I can't imagine her dying."

I think Night's overestimating me a tiny little bit.

I know for a fact that my fighting style is sloppy. With someone as strong as me, to garner injuries from goblins, I'm sure that isn't normal.

I have to get better at it but right now but I'll save that thought for later.

Since Sun is letting me go for a while now, I rubbed her head like she did to me before and whispered to her ear that I'm perfectly fine.

Her cheeks were then coated by a red tinge as she let me go.

A little later, the food is done and Night served us our portions.

Of course, mine is mixed with blood for extra deliciousness.

I had Night show me the part where she cut herself and I licked it. Since the cut is shallow like I told her to do, it had healed completely.

As expected, it was delicious. Blood is the missing ingredient after all. When that's added it, any meal would taste amazing. And better yet, it's a humans blood.

While we're having our meal, I heard a knock coming from the door.

"Who could that be?"

I have the same question as Night.

Why would they even hit our door, to begin with?

I could smell that they're still outside. There's about three of them out there.

Their scent is sort of familiar.

When the three knocked again, Night stood up and opened the door.

It revealed three smaller humans with varying sizes. The three of them are about above half of Night's height and their tallest member is half a head shorter than me.

As I had guessed it, it's them.

Chris, Trish, and Leo.

What are they doing here, hitting on other people's houses?

"I'm sorry for disturbing you so early in the day but um..."

That voice seemed to belong to Chris.

"Are you looking for Snow?"

"Yup, we are. Is she up now?"

With Trish's question, Night moved out of the way to let them see me.

Oddly enough, they were surprised seeing me.

And so I asked;

"What's wrong?"

They stayed silent like that and Sun's head tilted to the left slightly.

The first one to break the silence was Chris.

"It's just… it's the first time we saw your face clearly."

Is what he said and his cheeks slightly red for some reason.

No, it's not just Chris, but also Trish that is blushing. For Leo, he's just simply finding my face as something amazing.

Is my cuteness at work here? Or have they sensed something else?

Whatever that something, I don't know of course.

"Wow… you're ten times cuter than before when you had that cloak thing on, Snow! Let's go play in my house for a bit. Let's leave these guys for later!"

Trish proposed to me something interesting.

"W-wait! What's that about leaving me and Leo!?"

But it looks like Chris is against it.

"Then Leo will come with us. You can just hang out in your hideout by yourself."

Then Trish replied to Chris smugly.

I have a feeling that this'll take a while so ignored their usual bantering for a moment and ate my half done meal.

After that, I asked permission from Sun and Night if I could go out with them.

Though I feel like a hypocrite for doing this since I just went out last night without their permission.

Thankfully, Sun and Night ignored that fact and gave me permission.

As for why I even need to ask permission, it's because Sun mentioned that mothers are just those people whom you should ask for their permission first before doing anything.

It's also my first time asking for permission on anything. It's quite a unique experience.

After grabbing the large piece of cloth I use to cover my body, I finally said to the two; "Later" and headed off.

I also heard Sun saying something about me not getting my daily dose of blood in a depressed tone but I think that was just my imagination.

Although it is true that I still haven't drank any blood today. It completely slipped my mind about doing that upon coming back to the house.

It's fine. I'll just take double the amount later to compensate.

•••

As to what we're going to do today, we're going to Chris' hideout to play a game that Chris invented and later, head towards Trish's house with only just me and Trish. Oh and also Leo, acting as my personal warmer.

Chris was rather upset when Trish said it has to only be just me and her but he begrudgingly accepted it when Trish whispered to him the reason for that.

As for what that reason may be, I don't know.

I also suggested that we should bring Leo, to Trish's surprise.

My reason for that is absolutely not because I want to hug him. Definitely not.

And because I suggested that, Chris looked more upset than before.

I don't understand why at first but thankfully, Leo explain it to me as to why that is.

"Big Brother would feel lonely if he's left out. Can't we bring him?"

Ugh… cuteness is dangerous after all. And Lacorte said that I'm like this as well, I may possess something more powerful than my vampiric abilities.

Not really but cuteness is something hard to refuse.

And it looks like Trish felt the same way so she agreed anyway.

But Chris refused the invitation, saying it'll be awkward and weird. Though he did demanded that for tomorrow, we're going to play at his hideout all day.

Anyway, back to the current situation.

After taking the route that we took yesterday, we arrived at the hideout.

But, there's something wrong.

I could smell traces of goblin blood around here.

It's incredibly faint but I detected it nonetheless due to how strong smelling their blood is.

There doesn't seem that any is nearby so I decided not to tell them.

Upon opening the entrance to the hideout, Chris was quite shocked to see the state inside.

The neatly(?) arranged pieces of indiscernible items placed on square tabletops was gone. Not just that, the cloths that were acting as the walls of the hideout was ripped here and there. Some even missing.

Did those pesky goblins do this?

"Woah… it looks like this place is raided."

Trish said the same thing that I was thinking.

Those goblins raided this place.

The goblins do seem likely to be the one responsible for this after all. Aside from their traces of blood smell, those goblins always have weird things with them. Most likely stolen.

"No! My trophies! They're gone!"

While we were looking around, Chris suddenly fell on his knees and begun screaming.

To be honest, I don't see why he would get upset by having those things stolen from him.

I mean, yeah, they have some history to them but at the end of the day, they're simply random things that he has picked up.

Leo went and rubbed the head of Chris as if consulting him.

I'll ask Leo later to do the same thing to me…
