《Atonement of an Immortal》Chapter 33: Persuasion

Michael started speaking about some of the secrets that he had kept hidden. He started the conversation as such:
Michael : Teacher, if I were to tell you that I had a very long dream and that the dream came true at one point, would you believe it?
Karslon : What are you speaking about now? Foresight? Such a thing is inconcievable. The future can not be derived based on the laws. It is in a state of constant flux based on the choices that we make. No law can govern that and even plane-will is not capable of that.
Michael : I know teacher. But I am asking you. Is there a limit of power in the universe? We know the immortal realm as the heavens. But we also know that the immortals are not truly immortals and can be killed. But who knows if there are true immortals out in the universe. Time-defying and death-defying existences that stand at the peak of power looking at us like ants!
Karslon shuddered after hearing this. There was indeed no way to disprove Michael's statement. However, the idea made him feel chills down his spine. He annoyingly said:
Karslon : What exactly are you trying to say here? Why go into this make believe fantasy story?
Michael : Teacher, I can not tell you how it happened because I do not understand that myself. But, I know one thing. And that is that I received a revelation about the future. Now, you will not believe me but please still listen to my story.
Karslon indeed did not believe the 12-year-old kid in front of him. He thought that this was all fantasy that he had come up with. But the question was why. Michael was clearly not delusional. And it was not like he needed any more attention. So what was his game here? Karslon looked at Michael and actioned for him to continue.
Michael : Teacher. I am going to show you an art that I received during the revelation. This is the soul cultivation art that I practise. I have told the entire world that I have a blessing that increases my soul cultivation but that is a big fat lie. In truth, I have been cultivating this art from the day I received the revelation. You can check for yourself.
Saying so, Michael handed over the Styx Soul Incarnation Scripture to Karslon.
Karslon was initially sceptical about the art but the more he read it the more shocked he felt. Heavens! This was the most formidable soul cultivation method he had seen. And Karslon had seen a lot. In fact, he prided himself on the fact that his knowledge was unrivalled among the new races. But this cultivation method was definitely not something that someone in the new race had created. This could only be from a senior of the ancient races or from the so-called revelation that talked about. Just as Karslon was about to bring this point up, Michael spoke:
Michael : Teacher, I know that this art does not prove anything. It might be created by some ancient race individual. But I can tell you an extremely important thing right now. That cultivation method touches upon the laws of death.
Saying so, Michael drove his persona with his entire willpower and erupted with dense death energy. The entire study was drenched in the aura of death. Initially, Karslon could not see anything special. But after observing Michael, he found that Michael was not generating the energy. As he closed in on the realization, his eyes widened from shock and his heart rate sped up. He was so shocked that his jaw slacked! This was the power of law! An emperor realm expert was using a law!! And that too a profound law like the law of death? The shock was almost as great as the first time Karslon saw Michael's inhuman willpower.

Michael : Teacher, you should have figured out that this power is coming from the death law. I reverse engineered this from the technique itself or else there would have been no way for me to learn the law.
Michael's argument made sense. He had indeed learned the law through reverse engineering. Though he had help from the life law inheritance. Michael did not tell Karslon about the law inheritance at all. There were things that should be kept secret and things that could be explained. His laws and his persona were Michael's core secrets. He would not reveal them easily as they were related to his power and survival. The Styx scripture was also a core secret but Michael had no choice but to reveal some to convince Karslon.
Karslon, on the other hand, was sweating already. He looked at Michael as if he was looking at a monster. Then, he motioned for him to continue.
Michael : Teacher, looking at the intricacy of the technique, it should be obvious that the person who created the technique was well versed in death laws. As you have distilled a law as well, can you imagine the level of the expert that created this technique?
Michael's words exploded in Karslon's mind like thunder sending all his thoughts in disarray. He did not have enough time to ponder on the subject yet. But as soon as he imagined it, he found that the person who created this cultivation art was too powerful!
Karslon himself had a decent amount of comprehension in the law of wind. Elves were usually able to comprehend wind and plants better due to their racial origins. But that did not mean Karslon was unaware of the level of death law used in the cultivation method. Anyone who cultivated this method would find it far easier to comprehend the death laws. Also, it established a solid foundation for the soul to distil the death laws. Such a cultivation technique was so high-ranked that it could be said with certainty that a technique of such level has never appeared in Aterna.
Thinking of the expert who created this technique, Karslon felt that this person was at a level where the plane-will would not be able to bear their existence. Such a person could fight against the plane-will! Even in the era of ancients, there had never been anyone who could fight the plane-will. This was so ridiculous that no one even considered it. But Karslon was looking at such a situation right now!
Michael : Teacher, I can see from your expression that this person would be very powerful and far beyond the immortal realm that we know of. Can you tell me that such a person is the pinnacle of power in the law ocean?
Earlier, Karslon had not taken Michael's words to heart. But now, he had no choice but to accept it. There was concrete evidence in front of him that there was someone that powerful out there in the law ocean. If such a person were to descend in Aterna, it would simply be a calamity. The entire plane might become ashes, never to rise again. This was the end of the world that he was talking about! And, there was no reason to be sure that this was the limit. Who knew if there were even more terrifying existences out there. Karslon thought for a long time. Finally, he took a deep breath and said:
Karslon : You have indeed given me something to think about. This old man's heart can not take such huge shocks. Kid, where did you get this cultivation method from? Tell me the truth. This is a question about the survival of the entire world.

Michael : Teacher, I have alredy told you that I received a revelation. I can tell you about it. I don't know how I received it, who was behind it and what this person's intentions were. Hell, I don't even know if the one who showed me the future was a person or something else. I also don't know why they chose me. But, I have been trying to find someone who would understand the gravity of the situation and share this burden.
Michael's voice almost cracked at the end. He was indeed feeling too emotional. He had been walking alone on his path of atonement for 12 years now. He was still bearing through the inhuman pain of cultivating the Styx Scripture. All this was so he could make a difference. Right now, he had the chance that he wanted. As long as Karslon was convinced, it would change the history that he knew. This was the moment Michael could make the greatest contribution till now.
Karslon could see the intensity of Michael's emotions. Then it dawned on him that he was being too hard on the kid. If some child was shown the possibility of world destruction, there is a chance that they might turn insane. Even Karslon was having a hard time controlling his emotions. And now, Michael had pretty much proven that he was speaking the truth. This cultivation method was not created in Aterna. The only way for Michael to know it was otherworldly contact. And this made the situation even more complicated. Karslon calmed down his senses and spoke with affection in his voice:
Karslon : Child, you don't have to be so worried. I already believe you and through the argument that you have put, the entire empire would believe you. I will definitely make that happen. Even if we are going to turn to ashes, we shall do so facing the enemy. Besides when you have lived as long as me, you will know that death is not all that scary. Don't worry and tell me. What did you see in the revelation? What is going to happen in the future?
Michael : Okay, techer. In the dream I saw ..............
Micahel explained what was going to happen in the future briefly. Karslon's expression turned extremely heavy at the moment. Though Michael had not told everything, the things that he had said were profoundly shocking and extremely worrying. His expression grew sombre and he started forming a plan in his mind. The several years' worth of knowledge that he had was currently being thrown together to form a plan. A plan to prepare. He did not believe Michael's revelation fully yet. But they could not take a chance on something this important.
Micahel : I am not very sure when the devils would invade but it is something that is not in our hands and it is very unlikely that our actions would change the future invasion. The only thing that we can do is to prepare in advance. I have told you everything I know. I want to protect my home, my family and my race. But the devils are the enemy of the entire plane and not a specific race. If we do not unite, we will all fall. And teacher, you are the only one who can do that.
Karslon : I have to think about what you have just said. I do believe your words and am not doubting you but this is a grave matter. We are not being invaded right now. I will think of a way to respond to this threat. You should go back to your room now. I have a lot of work to do. You should take a rest and not focus on this anymore. You have done your job and accomplished the mission that you had to fulfill. Now, enjoy your youth and cultivate. Grow your power and prepare for the hundred-year war. Leave the big things to us. When you are worthy, we will naturally let you share the burden.
Saying so, Karslon motioned for Michael to leave. Michael got up and left. He had done all he could. And he knew that Karslon was not someone to ignore a threat of such a level when he had evidence in front of him. He was also convinced that Karslon had believed him. This was indeed a joyous day for Michael. His first phase of the plan had been thoroughly executed! It was now time for him to begin the second stage: to build his own legend! If he wanted to emerge as the hero of the plane, he would need strength. Now that he had the platform, it was time for him to fly!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After Michael left the study, secretary Darif came out from the shadow behind the bookshelf. He had been standing there this whole time and Michael did not see him! Even his All Seeing Eyes had been deceived!
Karslon asked Darif:
Karslon : What do you think Darif?
Darif : Headmaster, I am not too sure. His words are true. It is in the sense that he did not lie to you. From what I could read from his expression, he was hiding things but not lying outright. He does believe that the revelation would come to happen and that we would be invaded. He is also not a spy from the devils side either. He was really intent on solving the problem. He is an ally of the plane. I don't find any fault in him. It is the being that he talked about! I am worried about their intentions. Why would they go out of their way to send some foresight to a kid without any influence. Why not send it to you or the leader of God-Beasts?
Karslon : We can not fathom what an existence at such a level thinks. All we know is that the kid had been contacted by some otherworldly power that is likely to be opposing the so called devils. That kid is naturally hiding things but that much is reasonable. He is a good kid. A seed worth grooming to become an immortal. Protect him from the shadows. The otherworldly expert might be interested in his potential or some of his secret that we don't know yet. See to it that he remains safe. Also keep on noticing the abnormalities around him. He is involved in too great of a scheme that even we are merely pawns in. I am going to formulate a plan. Call for a meeting of all the immortals in the empire. Call it a code - Calamity. We have to prepare for some things.
Darif : Okay headmaster. I will do as you say.
As things had seemingly calmed down, a new storm was going to be raised up in Aterna this time around. And this was going to be a storm that involved the entire world!!
And the reason for the upheaval - Micahel, was currently sleeping peacefully with a wide smile on his face!

Between the trio's optimistic yet naive ideals, and the SPS's tried-and-true surgical methods, determining the answer which methods can better humanity is a struggle that both parties must resolve in their own ways... Welcome to the 7th revision of my 10+ years ongoing novel trilogy. This revision took out some flawed plot concepts to re-introduce a more down-to-earth, film noir-like ambience, where a battle of wits is what will determine the outcome. It also added instead more in-depth expansion into the lives and mindsets of the characters, especially the heroes (a missing factor in older versions). Third-view limited storytelling was also introduced more prominently over my favoured third-view omnipotent, with each chapters concentrating as much as possible on a single character's point of view instead of head-hopping. So I shall begin uploading the chapters as I finish them; they're edited as much as I can, but there'll most likely be some typos and mistakes. As always, I welcome your comments and critiques, and I hope you enjoy reading that story as much as I did creating it! A parting poem to introduce the story (translated from its original French version): Credit: Les Mots, Mylene Farmer & Seal Firmly, the sky writhes When a mouth begets a death There, I will give my life to hear you To tell you the most tender words When all becomes all alone I'll break my life for a song And to lives that stoop to notice mine I know I will say goodbye But a fraction of this life I would give anything, anytime The universe has its mysteries Words are our lives You could kill a life with words Soul, how would it feel? If our lives are so fragile Words are mysteries Words of feelings Words of love, a temple If one swept the world away One could touch the universe I will tell you how the sun rose high We could with a word become one And for all those words that hurts us There are those that touches us Which illuminates, touches the infinity Even if nothingness exists For a fraction on this life We will give anything, anytime The universe has its mysteries Words are our lives We could kill a life with words Soul, how would it feel? If our lives are so fragile Words are mysteries Words of feelings Words of love, a temple
