《Atonement of an Immortal》Chapter 28: Anticipation

In the light tower, there was a teenage boy currently fighting a middle-aged man in the training arena. They exchanged moves at a rapid pace. The middle-aged man seemed to block all the attacks with a single hand. While the boy seemed to constantly move and attack from all directions, the man was able to stop all attacks standing at the same location.
A small boy was standing to the side looking at the fight with sparkling eyes.
The teenage boy was Ramsus. His cultivation was currently in the late king realm! This was even higher than Michael had hoped from the boy. The man he was fighting was in the peak saint realm. After the session of fighting got over, Ramsus was on the ground, taking deep breaths as he tried to get his condition under control. The boy had a gallon of water and a towel that he took to his brother. The boy was Ramsus' brother - Remeus.
After Michael had asked Ramsus to join him as a retainer, 5 years had already passed. Ramsus was already 17 years old and would be coming of age soon. His brother was also 12 years old now and in the peak knight realm. Their cultivation did not seem to match their talents. It should be known that when Michael had asked Ramsus, it was more out of consideration for character rather than cultivation talent.
But, destined individuals had support from destiny. It seemed that the laws of fate were at work. As Michael was growing at a tremendous rate, those that were with him were bound to be left behind with time if they did not discover their own lucky chances.
One and a half years earlier, Ramsus had gone out with some other helpers to kill the beasts in the surroundings. It was supposed to be a normal routine effort. But, they suddenly came across a saint realm beast!
For brats in king realm, this was simply a death sentence. But Ramsus remembered his master's aura which seemed to defy fate. Recalling the intense will, Ramsus refused to die like a coward. He had tried to distract the beast so that the rest could escape and inform the tower. Ramsus knew that everyone would die if they ran. Thus, he chose to sacrifice himself so that his master's name would not be tarnished.
It was then that an expert who had been on his way to the tower arrived at the scene. Looking at the kid's bravery, he decided to take Ramsus as a disciple. Initially, he only did this as he was impressed by the boy's character. But, later while treating Ramsus' injury, he found that his body was extremely suitable to cultivate his legacy cultivation art - Blood Fiend Art!
This immediately caused the elder - Omar Bridgit, to accept Ramsus as his legacy disciple. When Ramsus started cultivating the Blood Fiend Art, his cultivation speed rocketed. As he had support from Michael's share of resources, he made great progress. In fact, he was also going to apply to the final test to be accepted as a true disciple!
Omar Bridgit was a werebeast. Normally, experts would only accept disciples from their race. But in Omar's case, while his legacy was quite formidable, it was too hard to find people with suitable bodies who could cultivate this art. Thus, he took Ramsus as a disciple despite racial boundaries. It turned out later that Remeus also had the same body structure giving him two legacy disciples. Omar wanted to take Ramsus and Remeus away with him to train them. But, Ramsus had refused by saying that he was Michael's retainer and would not leave him.

It was not like Michael had done something personally for Ramsus. In fact, their interaction was very limited. Apart from admiration, Ramsus initially did not have any feelings for Michael. But it all changed when Michael had left him all his resources from the tower.
As Ramsus grew in power, he understood that while Michael's family was rich, the total wealth of resources that Michael had spent on him was much more than any other noble family would agree to pay. Michael had given him so many resources that it could be said to be life changing! He had borne the financial burden of both his and his brother's cultivation. This led to a feeling of gratitude to emerge in his heart as well. While he was not loyal to Michael, he did not think that Michael was a bad lord to serve.
But the reason he refused to leave with Omar was because of his own principles! He was not one to leave after taking debt from someone. He would at least work for Michael until he repaid his debt.
Omar had heard that the humans had a new crown prince. He did not have much interest in the crown prince. But now, it seemed that their fates had entangled. Thus, he decided to join the tower for some years. He wanted to see if the crown prince of humans is worthy to be his disciple's lord. In fact, he did not believe that Michael was qualified. But the crown prince was said to have very good prospects. If his disciple followed an influential lord, it was not a bad thing either.
Remeus, on the other hand, did not like Michael. He had always admired his brother. The second person that he admired and respected was his master. He did not like the fact that Michael was his brother's lord. He would truly teach that kid a lesson if he dared to flaunt his nobility in front of his brother! After all, the Rageberg family did not have a peak saint to back them up.
He did not know about the alliance as people considered him too young to tell these things.
After some rest, Ramsus got up and wiped the sweat off with the towel. He used the water to wash his face and quench his thirst. He went to his teacher:
Ramsus : Teacher, did you look at the ranking board? Lord Michael is on the third rank! He completed a 50 point mission.
Omar : Kid, what's the big deal about scoring full in the wealth section? The Ragebergs, Millers and the Zenids have formed an alliance. It seems that there was some heavenly treasure involved. It must be those guys taking action.
Ramsus : Teacher, I know that you are upset that you could not do a full point mission for me. You don't need to worry too much. Lord Michael is going to create history in the upcoming test. We don't have to compete with him.
Omar : Humph, Where is your sense of competition and rivalry? How can you just give in to a brat?
Ramsus : There are many reasons for that, techer. Please forgive your disciple for not fulfilling your expectations. Not only Lord Michael helped me a lot, without which I would still be in the countryside, he is also much younger than me. It would be shameful if I were to feel competition against him. But, the most important reason is his aura! It is completely different from anyone I have seen. Even you do not compare! I don't know why but I have a very strong feeling that he is unstoppable.

Omar : Humph, A brat from humans is unstoppable? What about all the immortals in the empire?
Ramsus : Of course, it is not that he is the most powerful. In fact, no one currently knows his power. We may get a shock in the test. I am talking about the sense of destiny. It feels to me as if he shoulders great destiny! Not something that I can compare to. His ammbitions are also quite shaking.
Omar : Humph, We shall see how good he is! If he is not up to my mark, I will be taking you even if he wants to stop me. Let's see what he would do then.
Ramsus just gave a wry smile. Neither his master nor his brother had seen Michael's true form. He looked like a cute toddler most of the time. It was only when he revealed his aura that he became a terrifying expert.

After getting the news about Michael's leap in cultivation, the Empress of Human Kingdom clutched at her armrest so hard that it turned to dust. Things had gotten too troublesome. Now, killing that brat would require at least the power of a saint! Saints were not easy to find. She started building a plan to kill Michael off. It was already known that the hundred-year war would start in 4 years. Killing him off at that time would not be too difficult.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a different area of the tower, Demitrus was looking at the ranking list for the final test. He had a feeling that Micahel's plan had resulted in the immortal's expedition and perhaps even the alliance among human nobles. He looked at the blood decree in his hands and looked at the list. He was waiting for the day of Michael's rise. And he knew that the day was coming!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Karslon Dumbledore had gotten out of seclusion. Karslon had been trying to comprehend laws so that he could form an immortal soul. While he did not have sufficient comprehension yet, he had made good progress in his seclusion. After coming out, he talked with secretary Darif about the recent events in Aterna. The death of the immortal from fenil tribe left him quite shocked as well. After talking about different things, he looked over at the rank list for the final test. Sure enough, the only three who caught his eye were at the top. Karslon was also waiting to see the results that those brats had attained in these years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the elven capital city, royal palace - the elven princess - Ashley Leslachis was sitting in a meditation chamber. She had turned 19 years old, just a few months away from her coming of age ceremony. After that, she would be considered an adult. She was breathtakingly beautiful with perfect facial features and lush curves. Looking at her, many would go into trance! Her cultivation fluctuations were currently in the early emperor realm.
It should be known that the elves were a long-lived race. Their lifespans even without cultivation was around 500 years. Saints could live for a millennium and perfect realm experts till a few thousand years. When it was said that they had the greatest talent, it was mostly in terms of quantity. Most of the elves were suited to cultivation and had a great aptitude for it. In terms of absolute geniuses, the elves were much behind. After all, they were extremely long-lived.
If Ashley was to reach saint realm at the age of 50, it would be equivalent to a 10-year-old human reaching the saint realm! Even Michael was not that heaven-defying.
In fact, in the elven race's history, very few had ever reached the emperor realm before the age of 20. Ashley was a top end genius.
Ashley was looking at her ancestor Ragnar Leslachis who had been guiding her in her cultivation. She could feel that her ancestor looked at her with naked lust in his eyes! While Ashley was from the royal family, she was from the extended side. Her father and mother were not very important people. And Ragnar was their ancestor who had lived for countless years. His words were the law in her branch of family.
While Ashley did not think of her purity as something morally valuable, she also did not want to end up as her ancestor's plaything! She was very ambitious. She knew that her ancestor would never give her an official status or enough power due to the fear of public opinion. He would most likely keep her trapped in her own home as his personal slave. A more important thing was that she just could not get herself to accept her ancestor. She did not mind any other ancient immortal as a partner. In fact, she would be glad if that happened. But, she could not bear to do it with her ancestor! It felt gross and defiling. Just thinking about it gave her creeps. Unfortunately, Ragnar was not an existence she could deny. The day he wanted her, she would have no choice. Thus, she was looking for a chance to escape his clutches.
Ragnar, on the other hand, was totally infatuated by his own descendant. He had never been much of a moral man. In fact, he had raped several of his descendants over the years! He had already lost all feeling for his family as his immediate family had died many, many years back. He got excited just by thinking about how he would break Ashley, defiling her in all sorts of ways. He was looking forward to making a sex slave out of her! The only reason he had not taken her was that her body right now was too weak! If he were to lose control, she would die. Thus, he would wait till she reached the saint realm and ignited her vital force. Then, he would have his fun!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kandrif Kross and his uncle Kevin Kross were currently training in the field of the werebeast royal castle. Kevin was hailed as one of the greatest fighters of the empire. It was not known who among him and Karslon would be superior in battle as they had never fought. But, the difference would not be much. It must be known that the racial powers gradually turned unimportant as laws took their place. Thus, while experts valued their race's powers, true experts in perfect or immortal realm did not think much of it. Kevin was of a younger generation than Karslon and his command in law was bound to be weaker.
He was training his nephew in a powerful martial art. He looked at his son and said
Kevin : What do you think are your chances of beating that Michael kid?
Kandrif : I am not sure. While I am in the early emperor realm, due to using the heavenly treasure for breakthrough, my foundation has become a bit unstable. I can not exert my full power right now. Also, that guy is too scary! He was in the early king realm and no one knew! Also, his soul is very powerful. He even killed a saint! I am not confident even with the soul guard that you gave me.
Kevin : That is true. His progress in the way of soul is much more terrifying. Even I had been shocked by the news of that kid killing a saint! Of course, it was an ambush. But still, he has quite a few secrets. That kid is smart as well. He could be a pretty good ally. What do you think?
Kandrif : I know. That was the reason I had his carriage attacked while observing from a distance with the artefact "heaven's eye". I wanted to test him. The objective was to kill him in case he was too weak. I had a few perfect realm experts at much greater distance stationed to make a move as soon as he was about to die. Then, I would have gone in with the excuse of travelling by the same path. That way, I could have formed a foavourable impression. Then, with some coaxing, he would have been a very good pawn. But, I received the shock instead. I saw him appear out of nowhere behind the saint expert and kill him in one blow! He is very sly. He knows the flow of situations. He has hidden much of his talent. Thus, he would be a terrifying enemy to face. But similarly, he would be a very powerful ally as well. I think that getting his friendship would be much better than getting his enmity.
Kevin : You are developing very well. The younger generation needs to take charge of things eventually. You are your father's and my hope. You also have an ancient werebeast bloodline. While it has not awakened yet, it will one day awaken. That day, you can start creating your own legend! But, you will need reliable and powerful allies. You should get that kid on your side by any way. At least, don't become his enemy. I can feel that he is not simple!
As all people were preparing for the final test, Michael, who was the topic of most of these conversations was being spoiled at home by his parents. After returning from the mission, he was treated as a valuable treasure. His mother and sister doted on him endlessly. He also sparred with his brother comparing their strengths.
After returning, Michael copied all the soul arts and cultivation arts that he had from his past life on books and added the collection to the Rageberg library. Those techniques would become his family member's power in the future. He just lied to his family that he found everything in the tower library - a very believable lie.
He was also planning to set up his spy organisation and a base in the forbidden forest. It was just that all these things would have to wait. The first thing he had to do was to take Karslon Dumbledore as his teacher.
As all sides prepared, the day for the final test was arriving. It was now time for the greatest tower final test in history to open its curtains.

But when they encounter the mysterious Shiakar Paradigm Society, a clash of paradigms ensues. Although both groups are aiming to make humanity stand stronger, their ideals and methods could not be further apart. Between the trio's optimistic yet naive ideals, and the SPS's tried-and-true surgical methods, determining the answer which methods can better humanity is a struggle that both parties must resolve in their own ways... Welcome to the 7th revision of my 10+ years ongoing novel trilogy. This revision took out some flawed plot concepts to re-introduce a more down-to-earth, film noir-like ambience, where a battle of wits is what will determine the outcome. It also added instead more in-depth expansion into the lives and mindsets of the characters, especially the heroes (a missing factor in older versions). Third-view limited storytelling was also introduced more prominently over my favoured third-view omnipotent, with each chapters concentrating as much as possible on a single character's point of view instead of head-hopping. So I shall begin uploading the chapters as I finish them; they're edited as much as I can, but there'll most likely be some typos and mistakes. As always, I welcome your comments and critiques, and I hope you enjoy reading that story as much as I did creating it! A parting poem to introduce the story (translated from its original French version): Credit: Les Mots, Mylene Farmer & Seal Firmly, the sky writhes When a mouth begets a death There, I will give my life to hear you To tell you the most tender words When all becomes all alone I'll break my life for a song And to lives that stoop to notice mine I know I will say goodbye But a fraction of this life I would give anything, anytime The universe has its mysteries Words are our lives You could kill a life with words Soul, how would it feel? If our lives are so fragile Words are mysteries Words of feelings Words of love, a temple If one swept the world away One could touch the universe I will tell you how the sun rose high We could with a word become one And for all those words that hurts us There are those that touches us Which illuminates, touches the infinity Even if nothingness exists For a fraction on this life We will give anything, anytime The universe has its mysteries Words are our lives We could kill a life with words Soul, how would it feel? If our lives are so fragile Words are mysteries Words of feelings Words of love, a temple
