《Overwrite》Chapter 15

Ryu didn’t normally cook, but neither had he had a bot in his head until now. How did Dot know how to cook? Ryu wasn’t completely sure, but at the moment he suspected Dot had indexed all his memories, therefore bypassing the need to actually remember anything. Dot didn’t know how to cook, it was just recalling a recipe that Ryu must’ve seen at some point in his life, at least that was Ryu’s currently standing theory.
How Dot was able to determine what information was relevant though... Ryu was clueless.
He thought about all of this while cooking, not needing to pay much attention to the task. Dot made it rather trivial what with the instructions being streamed straight to his mind. All Ryu had to do was follow them, which naturally lead him to wonder why Dot wasn’t taking control like in VR.
He went through a couple theories, such as whether Dot wasn’t actually able to control his body and it was all the headset’s doing, but that theory had gaps and contradictions which he couldn’t explain.
Ryu smiled lightly as he followed the recipe, step by step, until an appetizing scent permeated through the air. His ears picked up on Ruri’s door opening as the smell drew her in, and he turned his head to greet her.
“Hey, it’s almost ready,” said Ryu.
Ruri walked up beside him and a took a peak as he was plating up their meal. She left and didn’t say anything until Ryu had taken a seat opposite her at the table.
“So why'd you make dinner so early?” said Ruri.
“Oh...“ Ryu felt like smacking himself. “I forgot it was so early.”
Ruri just rolled her eyes as she picked up her fork.
“I’m hungry anyway so it’s fine.”

Ryu decided to wait until Ruri had the first taste of his and Dot’s cooking; however, Ruri stopped her fork mid air as she spotted her brother staring at her intently.
“What?” said Ruri, suspicious. “You didn’t put anything weird in this did you?”
“Huh? No, I just wanted to try cooking. What would I even put in?” Ryu looked at Ruri who stared back as he tried to understand why she was so suspicious of him.
A thought popped into his head, but the thought of mentioning it to Ruri made his spine shiver. She would definitely murder him.
“What are you thinking?” said Ruri.
Silence wouldn’t work here, so he settled with something direct.
“Nothing, and I didn’t put anything in your food.”
Ruri extended her arm, holding her fork at Ryu’s lips. Stuck to it was a bit of chicken and pasta, covered in white alfredo sauce.
“Then eat it,” said Ruri.
Ryu opened his mouth to reply, but stopped himself. What was the point in arguing? He leaned forward and bit down, enjoying the results of his and Dot’s first meal. It was creamy, and despite the fact he wasn’t any good at telling whether meat was cooked or not the chicken didn’t appear to be raw.
Ruri brought her fork back and made sure Ryu swallowed his meal, before looking down at her own plate and beginning to eat. With her suspicions cleared Ryu began to eat as well, and so from then the two siblings ate mostly in silence.
Albeit, Ryu couldn’t get it out of his head that she was using a fork he’d just eaten off of. He was weird.

Book 1: The Forgotten Fighter
Follow a collection of chance encounters turned potential allies as numerous forces work to tear through the fabric of reality. Viamarr, a continent in the world of Rinterria, holds host to our tale and to the city of High Morr, which sits snugly on its frozen island in the middle of a great frostbitten lagoon. When High Morr is suddenly crippled by a series of mysterious sinkholes, our heroes do what they do best. Try to run. Keep up with them to find out where they end up and what exactly is chasing them in return. I hope to publish a new chapter 3 times a week. This is reduced from my previous number, hopefully temporarily, due to an increased workload outside of Royal Road. I welcome any and all feedback to improve my writing, so thank you for taking the time to check out my page.

In Pursuit of Bark's Finest
On the frontiers of transhumanity’s expansion into the galaxy thousands of light years from the light of Sol, things can get rather chaotic. There are countless millions of nascent interstellar nations securing their interests, pirate ships prospering off plunder and deniable mercenary work, dissidents setting up their own civilizations, and other groups all trying to push an agenda. When these groups crash into each other, the results can become extremely messy and convoluted. Recently, a frontier nation calling itself the Red Star Union has found itself at the focal point of one such complication. A freighter under their protection has been sabotaged, hijacked in interstellar space, and robbed of its cargo. This would be bad enough even if all it were carrying was luxury goods, but the freighter Nebula Plow was carrying more than just normal trade goods. Indeed, her cargo of Non-Orientable Wormholes for use in starship power plants was both very expensive and very, very dangerous. Now the Red Star Union has to worry about a pirate crew running around with several extra devices capable of converting matter into antimatter with negligible energy cost. With those, the pirates could be capable of inflicting untold damage if allowed to leverage their ill-gotten gains into a stronger position, a possibility the Union finds completely intolerable. Unfortunately, all that the Red Star Union has to go on for evidence is two names; that of the captain, and that of the ship. The Captain is going by the possible pseudonym of Fuller, while the ship is named Bark’s Finest. And thus the orders came down to the Union’s Bureau of Starforce Intelligence: find more information on these pirates, conclusively identify them, and figure out where exactly they’ve gone to ground so that the fleet can crush them before they get established. Of the many agents that the bureau assigned to this mission, one would happen to play an important role: Field Agent Madeline Zargosty. This is her story. This story is entirely pre-written, and will have one chapter released per week. If you want to read it all ahead of schedule and get access to some premium-exclusive bonus content, the entire book is available for purchase; links to the appropriate storefront pages will be posted at the end of each chapter. This story is also being posted to Scribblehub.
