2: Humans vs. demons
There are quite a few differences between humans and demons. Most of them are already mentioned in the text, but I also wanted to have them written out here as a guide.
MAGIC POWER
There's not much of a difference when comparing regular people. If they're both bad at magic, then they're both bad at magic. The difference becomes obvious at higher levels, like the duchess and the king.
Demons can also live longer depending on their magic power. Humans aren't able to do this, no matter how much magic power they have. When they're young, there's not much of a difference.
A strong demon might become an adult in their 30s or 40s. As they grow older though, they start to age more slowly. They retain their youthful look for much of their life and only appear to
become "old" near the end of it. Thelo's in his 70s already.
There are also some affinities that humans can't use anymore, like transformation. I'm not going to list them or go into detail though, because most of them are niche and not really relevant.
PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Demons, of course, have their signature horns. it's somewhat rare among the population (~10%) and common among nobles.
Do note that they do not have antlers. Antlers shed yearly. Demons never shed!
They can also have slightly cooler toned skin colors, like purple to pink to blue.
Humans have their own distinguishing features as well. One thing that always bothered me in
a lot of fantasy worlds was when humans were always the "default" and the "other" races
had defining traits. Humans deserve their own unique flair too!
In Denea, humans can have vertical pupils, like a cat's. In nature, slitted pupils are designed to dilate much more than round pupils, so this actually helps humans with this trait see in the dark. 5-10% of the population has this. (Dominic doesn't.)

The other unique trait is their teeth. Some humans have two sets of canines instead of one, and in general a human's canines are larger and sharper than a demon's. This trait is much more common than the vertical pupils, and Dominic does have two sets.
CONCLUSION
I think that's all the important stuff. I do want to point out that demons aren't inherently better than humans at magic—they just have a higher "maximum MP" cap, if you think of it like a video game, and their bodies metabolize it differently. Having enough mana to be a considered a mage does make people more sensitive to certain things than the average layman (like how Dominic has the nose of a damn dog), but in the end it still comes down to experience and one's own innate talent.
After all, you can't sniff out lies or track people by scent unless you've done it quite a bit before. It's the same with all interactions with magic.

The Essence of Cultivation
After experiencing five years of an adventurer's life, Arcanist Sylar Wershin now spends his days catching up on developments in Essence Studies and teasing apart the functions of arcane trinkets and artifacts discovered by him and his companions throughout their time travelling the realms of Resham. An unexpected accident during the study of his latest subject of intrigue, however, displaces him across the Planes beyond what any known spell is capable of achieving. Now finding himself lost in a realm rich in previously-limited Transcendental Essences, however, does he truly even want to return back to his old world? If nothing else, plagiarising - ahem, learning new spell structures by observing the local mages should prove entertaining. Sure, there were new dangers in this foreign world, but they wouldn't be anything a fancy bit of spellwork couldn't solve. Though, he would appreciate it greatly if someone could explain to him just what this 'cultivation' business was, why the local Mages were all muscle-brained freaks obsessed with immortality, and why they all seemed to lack any appreciation for the finer details of Essence manipulation. That would be nice.
