《The Demon Lord is Bored》S2 Chapter One: Troublesome Task

All hail, I bring you the first chapter of season two for The Demon Lord is Bored! I finished this earlier than I thought because I ended up free time~ Ehm... The beginning arc will be longish, I guess, in comparison to my other arcs. . I will try to get out chapters as fast I can, but some days, I'm just too lazy to write or I'm busy or I'm waiting for inspiration to hit me and make my writing 100x better... so far, the last request hasn't been filled. Anyway, *drum roll* enjoy season two!
A cool breeze passed through the wheat field, the sea of golden crops swayed slightly in the wind, their stalks tilted their hands seemed to be waving at someone. Next to the vast field sat a quaint village that looked more like a drawing than reality.
Children danced around the well in the town square, playing some type of game that their creative minds had conjured up. The adults of the village would pass by while wearing a soft smile on their face, thinking that it was nice to be young.
There was one certain adult, however, that didn’t really blend into the surroundings. A bare-chested, brawny man who was well over two meters in height stood with his arms folded.
His glittering brown eyes surveyed his surroundings while thick lips twisted into a smile that looked fearsome on him, his luxurious head of deep red hair didn’t fit his persona either. It looked as if someone had placed a wig on him instead. The man crossed his arms and chuckled to himself, the morphed smile growing even more sickening. It even repelled the once jubilant children to play somewhere else.
He clapped his meaty hands gleefully together and jumped up and down a little similar to how young schoolgirls would after finding out some delightful news. “Because Lord Erebus entrusted me with this job, I, Magnus, shall fulfill my duty flawlessly!” He spun around in a circle multiple times before striking a pose, his chest heaving. It seemed as if light from the heavens fell upon Magnus at that moment, illuminating his figure with a glorious shine.
“Mommy.” A tyke tugged on the skirt of a mortified woman who had watched Magnus’ performance. “What’s wrong with that man?”
“I... I don’t know, honey,” she answered honestly before grabbing his small, chubby hand and dragging him away to what she thought was a far safer place.
Magnus stood up straight, his smile turning into a frown. “Do they not appreciate my beauty?”
“You’re embarrassing,” a voice retorted. “I hope they don’t associate me with you.” A boy who appeared to be eleven or so with radiant magenta hair stepped back a few steps, a look of disgust etched onto his face. “Maybe I can say you kidnapped me?”
“Weryn,” Magnus wailed. “How could you be so cruel?” Magnus lunged for Weryn, in hopes of an embrace, but he was quickly avoided.
The young dragon clicked his tongue. “Get yourself together, stop acting so conspicuous, we’re trying to not draw attention.”
Even if you said that, Weryn, it was far too late, Magnus was already on the receiving end of suspicious gazes.
Weryn heaved out a sigh. “Why did Lord Erebus put me with the loudest mouth... was it because he was complaining too much before?” Weryn looked at the sniveling Magnus who was close to tears. “It’s definitely because he didn’t want to be bothered more,” he quickly made that decision.

“Stand up. We’re only staying here for one night, and if you draw any more attention, people are going to deny us a room.”
Magnus’ eyes widened and he quickly jumped back onto his feet, grabbing the thick robe with long sleeves made out of expensive material he had discarded because it was “too hot”. he slid his arms back into the piece of clothing, and his entire character changed... from a “somewhat” shady character, he transformed into an “undoubtedly” shady character! More than anything, Magnus fit the bill of the villainous gangster in stories.
Weryn, however, thought that Magnus looked cool. “As I thought, this was definitely better.” He nodded his head while muttering that it was certainly good.
It turns out that Weryn’s sense of aesthetics was off also.
The mitch-matched pair made their way over to a trembling man, who looked up at Magnus’ looming figure with fear in his eyes.
Another petrifying smile appeared on Magnus’ face. “Excuse me, sir, do you know anywhere we can get lodging for the night?”
“Ah! Sorry, sorry, I don’t know!” The man ran off.
Weryn glared at Magnus. “Kneel down for a second,” he told the giant of a man who wordlessly obeyed. “Idiot!” Weryn mercilessly slapped Magnus’ head. “Everyone’s afraid of you, stop smiling, it looks creepy. Let me do the talking.”
Magnus stood up again, frowning once again brushing his hand through his mane of hair. “They don’t appreciate my beauty? I agree that my human form is far less attractive than my demon form, but--”
“Hush! We’re surrounded by humans, don’t say things like that out in public,” Weryn ordered Magnus quietly.
Magnus pressed a hand against his heart. “How could I have forgotten? My apologies, Weryn, it’s been a while since I last left the castle.”
“It’s fine... this time, let me do the speaking since everyone is scared of you.” In Weryn’s mind, he thought he looked rather normal, but he forgot about his very bright hair that wasn’t natural for humans to have, so like Magnus, he was thought to be a suspicious person. Still, his youthful appearance and the man that seemed to be a guardian created some leeway for people to think he had dyed his hair a strange color.
“Understood...” Magnus said softly, clearly saddened as the hand against his heart tightened into a fist.
Weryn tried to scout for anyone that didn’t shy away whenever they came near, the number, unsurprisingly, was zero.
It wasn’t because of Weryn, but rather, Magnus who was standing behind him had a gloomy aura attached to him that plagued all those who neared it with a sudden depression and intense fear that they couldn’t bear its presence any longer before running off.
Due to this, Weryn who was smiling with sparkles glistening in the air around him seemed to have an apparition haunting him with gaunt cheeks and downcast eyes, a thick hand clutching its chest as if it wanted to rip out its own heart.
Magnus, as it turned out, was incredibly saddened by the fact he had caused trouble for Weryn, ultimately meaning he wasn’t doing his job properly. In his mind, he could only imagine Erebus’ disappointed stare as he looked down upon Magnus from his throne with his lips pulled down into the smallest hint of a frown.

Then he would say these words, “Magnus, I expected better from you.”
Just with the utterance of a few words, Magnus had lost all his stamina. His legs felt heavy, and suddenly his world became very dark and dreary. “Lord Erebus will be so disappointed in me...”
Weryn watched as Magnus dragged himself to the side of a small home, but on his way there, he collapsed and sprawled out like a corpse, making pitiful noises and sniffing.
But, Weryn didn’t stop walking, if anything, he went past as if he was a passerby who had no association with Magnus. He had to find lodging, lodging~ Weryn began to skip a little while humming a tune under his breath, the mass known as Magnus grew smaller and smaller as Weryn moved away.
“Wait!” a screech resounded throughout the entire village, actually, people a mile away probably still clutched their ears in agony. “W-w-weryn! Are you just going to leave me here? Wait!” Magnus was approaching Weryn with an astounding amount of speed that made the boy tilt his head in awe.
“But if you move at this speed, you’re going to oversho--”
Just as Weryn was about to say, Magnus was not able to stop fast enough, instead, he shot past Weryn and ended up flying through two wooden buildings. He rolled a few times on the dusty road before finally coming to a stop.
“It happened.” Weryn buried his face in his hands, he wanted to cry. Why couldn’t Lord Erebus have paired him with Lilian or Vyne, even Dark Mist would have been fine!
There was a loud, shocked cry shortly after Magnus had busted through the houses. In the first house, a woman holding a babe stepped through the hole, then back inside her house as if she couldn’t believe what had just happened. In the other house, a man was simply staring through the large missing part of his home, his eyes connecting directly with Weryn’s.
Ever so slowly, the man outstretched his left hand, palms facing up. He quirked his eyebrows then tapped his palm with his right pointer finger which he then directed at Weryn, then back to his palm.
Weryn was instantly recognized to be the accomplice, even though he really hadn’t had a hand in the deed. Still, that man had no mercy seeing as he was demanding money from a child to pay for repairs. Of course, with Weryn’s teacher being who he was, Weryn had plenty of money. Still, there was something painful about seeing an eleven-year-old fork over cash to someone obviously older than him.
But, the one whose home had been destroyed wasn’t exactly in the wrong, and Magnus was too busy being given grief by the village head, so Weryn had to pay.
“Ugh... that should be enough, right?” Weryn asked the man, giving him his best innocent eyes.
The man very carefully counted the coins Weryn had given him. “Yeah, if there’s any extra, I’ll count it for the emotional distress you put me through.”
“I didn’t really do anything...” Weryn muttered as the merciless man walked away. His eyes focused in on Magnus who sat cross-legged looking up at the elderly man who was angrily scolding him.
"I don't know who you are or where you came from, but this is just unacceptable!” The village chief glared at Magnus. "Apologize to the ones whose homes you destroyed."
Magnus turned his head to the family of three and the merciless man, bowing his head slightly. "My deepest apologies," he grumbled.
“Even if you’re a guest, destroying our homes isn’t okay. If these kindly people hadn’t said there was no need, I would have banished you from our town!”
Magnus’ gaze fell to the ground and he traced circles in the dirt with his finger. “Sorry.”
The old man took a long look at Magnus before spinning on his heels and walking away.
Magnus took his time to stand back up, the depressing aura around him amplified by ten fold. “What have I done? The precious money given to us by Lord Erebus... the even more precious mission given to us by Lord Erebus. My recklessness has caused some trouble.”
“Some trouble? It was a lot of trouble,” Weryn contested. “Now the villagers probably hate us even more than before.” He sighed and rubbed his forehead. “Hopefully, there’ll still be someone who is willing to let us stay in their home. Probably not, since you’ve become a literal home-wrecker.”
“Should we just continue you on then? Lord Erebus told us not to waste any time, my mistakes have created a hassle, perhaps it is better if we just leave and continue on with our mission.”
Weryn nodded his head in agreement, they had been moving for a couple days without eating or sleeping, but since their bodies were strong, there was no need them to rest for a while. This stop had been out of leisure more than anything.
Erebus had entrusted them with finding a “certain person”, he said it would be a difficult because she moved around a lot and changed her name and appearance, but she typically stayed within the same area. But, they would know who she was when they find her.
The reason why Erebus had not gone nor sent Vyne and Tear out on the task was because they had their own business to attend to. Weryn didn’t know what it was, and he hadn’t bothered to ask, so, for that matter, he was left in the darkness.
Magnus probably knew what Erebus and co. were doing, but Weryn didn’t really see the need to ask. All he had to do was find this woman and deliver a message from Lord Erebus to her, then his job was done.
He assumed that Erebus had probably taken the more difficult job to do, so he hadn’t complained about being sent out on a wild goose hunt.
His eyes shifted to Magnus... even if he had to go with this idiotic person, he felt as if he could make it.

Dear Spellbook (Rewrite)
Live. Study. Repeat. Tal never saw himself as an adventurer, but the call to adventure never much cared for his opinion. Despite his best efforts, his search for answers on the murder of his parents ever draws him into danger. Accompanied by a group of seasoned warriors, thus far Tal has gotten by on his own meager magical talents, but when one day he wakes up to find himself back in his bed of the night before, he is faced with a challenge he must conquer alone. What to expect: This story was born of an attempt to create in world lore reasons for many of the mechanics and tropes of D&D, but you do not need to know of them to enjoy the story. It's a single POV time loop story with slow paced progression fantasy elements. The story is not one of fast-paced power ups and non-stop action, but as it progresses, the action picks up. There is a lot of magic system exploration on a system built to unify the diverse magic of D&D into one cohesive magic system. The setting is an original world with familiar races and monsters but with new unique origins and motivations. Book 1 is complete. Book 2 is complete and coming out M-W-F.
