《The Demon Lord is Bored》Chapter Forty-Two: Pastime

Sorry for the delay. Here you guys go
The Lower Continent! A place full of dangerous monsters and full of never-ending adventure.
In a current scene, we see a man laughing dryly. “To think I’d see you twice in one century, much less one year, Lord Erebus,” Yvick chuckled to himself as he looked across the room at his new arrivals.
“To think I’d have to replace my door twice already,” he continued. Yvick clasped his meaty hands together. “To what do I owe this honor?”
Erebus grinned widely. “Is that dungeon open?”
Yvick’s eyebrows drew together tightly. “The one I showed you before? I thought you had conquered it.”
“No. We only got to the third level before I had some urgent matters to attend to. Is it opening soon?”
The Demon Emperor drummed his fingers on his sharp chin. “I’m unsure, but I’d say another month?”
Erebus made a sour face. “A month?”
“Is it a problem?” Yvick tilted his head slightly. He clearly knew what the problem was, he just felt like teasing his old teacher.
“Obviously.”
“You’re bored?” Yvick asked the corners of his mouth twitched slightly.
Erebus glared at Yvick, who, in turn, raised up his hands in a defensive manner.
“I’m afraid I don’t have anything to entertain you with for a month until the dungeon will open.”
“Tch.” Tear could be heard in the background, she popped out her hip and crossed her arms over her chest. “Then what are we supposed to do in that month? Lord Erebus is looking for something to do right now!”
Yvick made a noise in the back of his throat. “Well, I’m sorry that I cannot help you at the current moment. Why don’t you just go on Quest and come back within a month’s time?”
“I destroyed our cards,” Erebus muttered.
“You what?”
“I had to destroy our ID. Like it said in the guidebook...”
In the guidebook provided to Questers, it states that if you wished to end your job as a Quester, simply destroy the card by using an incantation that they provide. Only the owner of the ID or Guildmaster can destroy cards.

The magic that provided your information will be deactivated and the card itself will disintegrate.
It was made to be so simple because multitudes of people would quit after becoming a Quester, and keeping paperwork on it all was too troublesome.
Yvick sighed heavily upon hearing that Erebus and his subordinates had gotten rid of their pastime. “There is not much around here that will prove to be exceedingly interesting, save for the dungeon, but of course.” He rubbed his temples and closed his eyes tightly as if he was trying to think.
“Is there truly nothing?” Lilian asked.
Yvick let out another troubled sigh. “Hmm... allow me to think.”
Multiple pairs of eyes stared back at him intensely. Think man! Think faster! They seemed to say.
“The areas of my castle are also relatively unexplored... I’m sure you could find something interesting. Though, I’m not sure it’d take an entire month for you to explore. Seeing as you are who you are, after all.”
Erebus and co. just continued their staring.
Yvick shifted in his chair uncomfortably, they weren’t blinking. Just watching, waiting. “Is that not enough?”
Silence.
The Demon Emperor cleared his throat. “I-I apologize for being able to think of anything.”
More silence.
Please, just say something! I’m begging you here, even I can’t stand unfazed by such an unending gaze, Yvick pleaded in his mind.
“I see.” Weryn ended the man’s suffering. “Master Erebus, does exploring the grounds not fancy your taste?”
“I don’t see much fun in it,” Erebus answered. “It isn’t like the dungeon, y’know?”
“That is true,” Vyne agreed, nodding his head in more affirmation.
Lilian questioned, “Why do you have so much uncharted territory, Demon Emperor Yvick?”
“I never found much interest in it. Although I have an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, for some reason, I’ve never been intrigued by exploration.”
Lilian accepted his explanation wordlessly.
Erebus groaned. “I suppose we could look around, though, I don’t think it’ll be interesting in the slightest. It’s better than nothing.”
“Then, it’s decided?” Yvick clapped his hands together. In all honesty, he just wanted them to leave. Whenever Erebus visited, some type of trouble would pursue.

And he was replacing his door quite frequently. Unlike Erebus, his wallet wasn’t bottomless!
He paid his subordinates, too, unlike Erebus.
There wasn’t much to sell in the area around him, and not many people buy things from a Demon Emperor anyway. Yvick was scraping the bottoms of his pockets.
“Yes, we’ll be leaving then,” Erebus said.
Yvick nodded. “Come back in a month’s time, I will guide you to the dungeon. Good luck finding entertainment,” he called as the quintet exited his throne room. He waited for the presence to disappear completely before shouting, “Rose, come here!”
In no time at all, a woman with pale red skin, scarlet hair, and a cute face. entered his throne room. Vines wrapped around her bare arms, with dangerously pointy tips.
“Yes, Master Yvick?”
“Order another door. Just buy five. Just... just buy five,” he said in an extremely exhausted voice.
“Understood.” Rose bowed and left.
Yvick let out his third sigh, leaning his head back on his throne. “Five should be fine, right?”
....
“Go Weryn, kill it,” Erebus said.
A timid-looking boy glanced at Erebus. “M-me?”
“Yes, you! Who else? Go! This is training,” Erebus answered in an irked tone.
The surrounding three watched the scene with expressionless faces. They were waiting to see the results of Weryn’s training, too.
“Ugh~” Weryn tightened his grip on the sword attached to his hip. He glared at his opponent, which resembled an overgrown Thornback wolf.
Its metallic fur was silver, and it stood at least one and half meters tall. Its maw was open. Sharp teeth, dripping saliva. It growled ferociously. Its silvery eyes were wild, ready to fight anything and everything in order to survive.
The wolf had a muscular body that looked like it could easily crush bones if it kicked them lightly.
It was a Demon rank monster.
Weryn swallowed dryly. They wouldn’t let him die, right? Right?
“H-here I go!” he yelled and charged forward. Using the techniques he had learned from Vyne, he swung his sword and utilized wind magic to create a deadly blade that could tear through flesh and muscle.
The wolf dodged the attack and shot towards Weryn quickly, like a bullet. The child leaped out of the way narrowly.
If it wasn’t for his dragon reflexes, that could’ve been fatal.
The wolf turned, snapping its jaw and growling lowly. It was a rumbling sound created deep in its stomach.
Weryn and the wolf continued trying to kill each other. Weryn using the techniques he had been taught, and the wolf surviving on the battle instincts it had honed through countless battles.
His four teachers watched with appraising eyes. They’d jump in if he got in a dangerous situation that could lead to him being injured gravely.
After all, Erebus still didn’t want to deal with Ayirn’s or Weryn’s mother’s wrath. He’d deal with it instantly if he noticed an extremely harmful attack!
Erebus nodded to himself.
Great plan!
Weryn was starting to move better as the battle dragged on. Even though this was a monster the others could have defeated within a few seconds, it was a great learning opportunity for the boy.
The night came.
The darkness settled over them, the stars twinkling in the blue-black nightsky.
Weryn was still fighting his opponent, surprisingly. Neither of them had received anything other than a scratch that would heal as instantly as it came.
His four teachers had set up a camp in the clearing, watching the battle and eating food. They shared casual conversation, laughing occasionally.
While Weryn was sweating, this was so exhausting!
Why weren’t they helping him? He wasn’t skilled enough to deal with such an opponent yet...
He had ton of theoretical experience, but the real deal was completely different! This was not what he had been expecting from a battle.
Little did Weryn know, they were just using this as an opportunity to waste time.
