《The Most Powerful Ant in the Universe》Chapter Thirty-Three: Improving the Pet

I finish digging the sizable hole and use Void Bite to clean up the edges. Turning to the small green slime, I indicated the room.

[This is yours.]

[I don't think he can hear you.]

[I don't care.]

The slime rolls into the small enclosure then looks up at me curiously.

I poke it with my mandibles and nudge it into the hole. Bouncing with excitement, the slime rolls in and begins to examine the room, which is frankly about as empty as empty gets.

[How about I just...]

Carving a small indentation into the hardened dirt, I make a smaller space for the slime to crawl into.

[Aww, you made him a bed!]

[What's a bed?]

[A type of furniture.]

[What's furniture?]

[...That explains a lot, actually.]

I ignore her for the moment and focus on the slime getting acquainted with its new home, and it burbles happily.

[What do slimes eat?]

[From what I understand, slimes are omnivorous creatures and can eat just about anything. Why do you ask?]

[I want to go energy hunting, but I wasn't sure if it wanted anything in particular.]

[Ohh, that makes sense. Well, if that's what you're looking for, there's a mouse looking at your entrance hole right now.]

[Perfect!]

I turn and walk out of the slime's room, and sprint full speed out of the hole. I see the mouse immediately as it falls under my shadow, and it just barely manages a startled squeak before I bite down.

Fully exiting my hole, I turn back around, pick up the mouse, and return to the slime's room. It's rolling around, stopping short every time it hits a wall. Dropping the creature's small body, I clack my mandibles, trying to get the slime's attention.

Rolling over, the slime sees the mouse, and its eyes grow larger. Looking up at me inquisitively, it burbles. I grab the mouse with my mandibles and drop it directly in front of the slime.

Curious, the slime opens its mouth and swallows the mouse. Almost immediately, I can see the body dissolving inside the slime.

[That's a powerful stomach.]

[Not as powerful as yours.]

[Good point.]

The slime makes the snapping-jump motion, landing on my head, and yawned quietly.

[Hmmm... I've been quantifying this slime for about half an hour, and I don't quite get its abilities.]

[What do you mean?]

[Its physical attributes are all over the place. It's as if it had its own V.E.A.U, but without a Void, and without any sort of verbal assistance like I give you. A system that it can upgrade itself with, if you will.]

[That's... unusual. Is there anything dangerous about it?]

[Well, I can't really tell for sure. In your case, I can analyze the level of manipulation that we can perform with the void capacity that we have available, and create abilities and skills based on that. In the slime's case, though, it doesn't have a Void. As a result, I can't really tell what it can and can't do. If it did have a Void, that'd be a whole different scenario, but the only way I know of to get a Void is the manner that you got it in. In your case, Noah fed you a stable, self-contained gravity-free singularity in a way that allowed you to develop it into a Void in your stomach.]

[I... didn't understand all of that, if I'm honest, but what you're basically saying is that we don't know what the slime is capable of.]

[More or less, yeah.]

The slime burbles happily, interrupting my train of thought.

[Is there anything specific that we should do to help it out?]

[I can't think of anything that we can do, aside from helping it eat a lot. What's interesting is that I'm detecting a small microspace inside of the slime, which is to say, it can probably eat as often as you can without any adverse effects.]

[So it can store things inside it too?]

[Well, whatever it can store would have to be rather acid-resistant. The inside of that slime is no joke.]

[I'll take your word for it. What should we feed it next?]

[Probably as much water as it can handle. It's a common enough resource, and it could potentially mix with its stomach acid to make a pretty decent attack.]

[Sounds good - we can do that later.]

[Why not now?]

[Because it's napping on my head, and I don't want to bother it.]
