《Reborn as a Magic Firefly, Help?》Chapter Fourty-three: An unexpected coalition

Is this a good or a bad thing-?
We want to fight the big spider, so it's a good thing she's coming to us, but it feels rather... ominous. Maybe I should Todd and Ma-,
"Hey, Mal, momma spider is comin'," Todd said, once more taking my idea right out of my head. Hrm. I'm not sure if I should thank you or zap you, Todd. You incredulous nincompoop.
The message fades out of my mind and my attention is quickly brought to the... scuttling. It is no secret that the sound of a spider is scuttling, but this loudly? Whatever this is, it is large and heavy. Like a sack of sang thumping along. Strangely enough, for some reason, it doesn't sound like it's alone.
Odd, considering it ought to be a solitary creature. Spiders don't usually have friends, right? Unless it's their babies, which sounds kinda lonely.
Huh? Something feels off. The scuttling has stopped, and-,
In a mere moment, a moment I myself was not aware was happening, I activated Borbdingnag and turned into my horse-sized self, and threw myself in front of Mal, using my own body as a shield for something I didn't know was coming.
Something strikes my chest but falls off without having caused much damage, if any at all. I glance down at where the thing struck me, and find it lying in the grass. Despite it having felt almost like an arrow, what I find on the ground is nothing less than a bundle of black, coarse hair.
...Alright, what the fuck?
"Yo-, Johnny, you cool??" Todd asks, bolting up to stand next to me, but I'm too confused to notice him. Judging by where I got hit and how high up Mal is... this was shot at his head. RIght between the eyes. What could- "dude, what's that in there-?"

And, lo and behold, there's our answer.
Skill (System Recon Interference) has been used, information will now be shown
Hair-Weave Queen Spider "Venus", Lv. 69, (C)
Birther of spiders and commander of said spiders, she is the leader of Paper Spider troops, but will, like the Ant Queen (various tribes) seldom act herself, instead letting her children fight her battles. However, unlike the Ant Queen, the Hair-Weave Queen Spider has no bodyguard, and if trouble arises which the Paper Spiders cannot defeat, she must emerge herself.
...Wait, don't I know you-?
The spider sweats.
Yeah, I do! You're that bloke who lived in the cave with all the origami spiders! What the hell are you doing here??
The shadows part to reveal yet another spider, and yet another answer.
Grand Weaver, Lv. 22, (C+)
An usurper of forests, claimer of land. Although possessing the title of "weaver", the Grand Weaver actually does little more than birth and command the spiders (Lesser, and /or Ordinary Weavers) that put up the webs and create the classic White Forests. Even so, the Grand Weaver if a terrible foe, not only due to their exceptional control over their underlings and webs (even possessing the racially unique skill (Web Manipulation), but also due to their high intelligence.
...Alright.
Todd doesn't seem too scared at being approached by two C-rank monsters, but I guess he wouldn't be. Neither am I, but...
-Mal? Mal, you alright there, pal? You look, well, really pale. Like really really pale. Even paler than before.
He takes a step back. Eyes wide and trembling.
...On second thought, maybe C-rank is a lot? I dunno, it seems to me like Mal is taking this too harshly than I feel he should.
Alright, uh, let's just check my status to make sure we can really handle this. No idea how much C rank is compared to C+, but here goes.

Johnny Fowl(Lv. 62/100) Species Moonlight Faerie (C+) Title(s) Monster, David Health 464/467 Mana 666/777 Status Strength 175 Magic 413 Speed 282 Defence 120(+12) Skills(...)
...Alright, that's probably good enough. Still, already at level 62... This is really wack. Too wack. Mysterious...
Are the spiders staring at us? I feel like the spiders are staring at us. The Grand Weaver is physically larger than the hair-weave one, and, well, white. Really not much to say. It's a big white spider with big green eyes that are totally looking at us and making me feel kind of embarrassed.
S-, stop looking at me like that, idiot!
By the looks of this, it almost seems like the hair-weave spider we met earlier is acting sort of like a bodyguard for the grand weaver? Which is... nice, maybe? Maybe they're friends? Maybe-,
I lunge my body once more, this time in front of Todd, and only barely feel the hardened spike of hair strike my chest. Whoa, close o-,
And the next second, the world once more turns into a blur. Something moves by Mal, and so I, too, move. I intercept whatever attack it was, and find my hand clasping the hairy leg of the hair-weave spider. I stare her down and attempt to crush her leg in my hand, by a tug on her side is enough to dislodge it, leaving me with a handful of disgusting, greasy hair.
I throw it to the side. The spider stares me down.
"Clang!"
From the corner of my eye, I catch only barely how Todd intercepted a white claw, only to be pushed down moments later.
-Fuck!
This might be a fair bit harder than anticipated, especially when I have two people to protect.

Luckily for him, as the self-proclaimed best thief in the world, his bag of tricks runs deep. ............ Hi Everyone, If you want to learn a little bit more about the book before deciding whether to read it, I've included a bullet point list of some of the things that the story features: -A strong but not overpowered protagonist. -Magic -Characters that make reasonable decisions and have more personality than a box of cardboard. -A standard litrpg progression with plenty of level ups and blue screens. -A highly customizable Skill system. For example, with enough Skill Points, Mana Bolt can be upgraded to shoot out multiple orbs at once, follow targets to become undodgeable, or simply hit harder. They’re not mustache-twirling levels of evil, but they’re no stranger to crime. -The apocalypse -Frequent updates

A Fractal Divide
Lesivar is a city in ascendancy. With recent innovations in magical crafting, the common people are experiencing a boom in comfort and wealth. The nobility, long used to being the stewards of knowledge and power, struggle to adapt to the new world in which they find themselves. A precarious balance has been maintained throughout, but forces stir beneath the surface threatening to send the city spiraling into chaos. This is my first attempt at writing anything longer than a short story, and I welcome any feedback or corrections. I'm posting this as I write, with each chapter going live upon completion. My current pace is about a chapter a day, which I expect to take my through the end of November. From there, I'm shooting for a chapter every two-three days until the book is completed, along with an editing pass of what is already up. I'm planning on three POV characters with unique insight into the story as it unfolds. Each chapter will contain only one POV. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Jalan Suram : The 100 Fire Holders
"Why us?" Still staring at the unusually stationary fire of the candle he was holding, Agung voiced the questions in our mind. "Out of 2 million people living in this city, why are we the chosen ones?" As if on cue, the eerie laughter of children could be heard above us. Holding our own candle tightly, we resolved to ignore them and continued our discussion. It was a matter of life or death after all. More than half of the initial participants had fallen and the building became more crowded as the result. There were now more ghosts than the living and each step was filled with danger from the unknown. Either we solved all the questions now or we would become another addition to the ghost camp. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There was one thing Novita found out after she accepted an invitation to a suspicious event from a seemingly legal company. Crowded didn't exactly mean safe. As more and more variables were added to the dangerous ritual, the higher the risk of death. At the same time, the higher the risk was, the better the rewards for it. But in the end, was it worth it? Note : This series was posted on scribblehub.com under the same name.
