《From Chief to the Emperor (Rewrite)》Chapter 7: It's just a tiny fire

The two continued on their way.
Night walked a little behind, and she looked at Edward a few times, who was now using both crutches to walk.
According to the aesthetic standards of modern people, Edward was considered to be well-proportioned, but in the primitive society, his figure was thin and weak, whether it was from the perspective of reproduction or the ability to obtain prey, in the eyes of the opposite sex, he was not the best choice.
Finally, she rushed a few steps forward and stood next to Edward with a slight worry on her face:
"Light, do you have a way to win against Titan?"
Edward did not answer directly, instead shifted the topic in another direction:
"Night, Titan, and your people, how do you usually hunt?"
"... Most of the time, you can't hit big beasts. You eat the leftovers left by the wolf and the tigers or leopards. Sometimes you are lucky and can get a lucky shot with your stone spear. But it is always followed by a lot of people dying. Sometimes a hunt of a single big animal might take several days.”
‘Hmmmm. I did saw Titan’s rough weapons and thought they were really too blunt for spears but they actually are really blunt-tipped. Even then they can match the strength of a beast and survive in the wilderness. Prehistoric people really had it rough but at least they had their strong physical strength to survive.’
"Night, the obsidian knife that you have, is it not sharp? Why don't you use this thing to make spears for your people?"
"Light, this obsidian knife was left to me by my mother. At that time my brother was still young .... The whole tribe has only one such thing. Usually, I don't use it."
Edward thoughtfully asked,
"Right, by the way, is that Titan really strong? Strong enough to hunt a saber-toothed tiger?”
He used to watch a documentary about prehistoric animals. The saber-toothed tiger was a terrible prehistoric beast. It was about 800 kilograms in weight and two or three times as big compared to modern tigers. Their teeth were as sharp as two short swords.... In prehistoric times, saber-toothed tigers were almost at the top of the food chain, and it was a nightmare for all animals, including humans.
‘Can Titan really hunt a saber-toothed tiger?’
“Light, there have been rumors that he can but no one has ever seen him. I….my mother was killed by once such tiger. They are not that easy to find and even more difficult to actually hunt.”
"Your mother? I apologize to make you remember something like that."

Night was silent, and Edward saw the sadness that was etched on her beautiful face. He knew it was not good to ask anything more about the topic.
They finally walked out of the forest and entered a mountain range.
There was a cave on the high slope not far away. Below the cave was a large flat land. They followed a winding path to go up.
By now, the people of the cave had already discovered them. Three people from the direction of the cave ran out to meet them, two men and one woman.
They saw Night and were very happy. But as soon as they saw Edward, they had uneasy look in their eyes.
"Sister....sister, you .... you are finally back? Look....it doesn't look like Titan... you are alright... right, this person is... Who is he?”
A teenager, about sixteen or seventeen years old, stuttered a little while talking. He had the standard savage appearance with unkempt hair, a stone ax on his waist, and a stone spear in his hand. The other boy who followed along was of similar age and slightly taller compared to others also had a stone spear and a stone ax. Both were wearing animal skin around their waist.
“He is Light. He got separated from his tribe who live very far away. I decided to bring him along.”
Night introduced him to the present audience.
At this moment, Edward still had swollen eyes while there was some dried blood around his nose. The rest of his body didn’t appear any better with bruises and dirt all over it.
Edward could guess the stuttering boy who referred to Night as sister must be her brother Night mentioned previously while the other two must be her friends. He nodded towards the three people present.
"Night sister, you have not asked the Chief for permission, and suddenly took in strangers, this is something that has never happened before?" The lone woman in the group finally spoke out. She was also a woman of beauty who was wrapped in a short animal skin both at her waist and her chest. She eyed Edward strangely.
"Sister, first listen to what Night sister has to say." The taller, squinting teenager interrupted her.
‘So this tall man must be the brother to this woman, and the stuttering man must be Night’s brother.’
“Okay. Let’s do this right now. Let’s go see the Chief now, I will explain it to him." Night said.
Following them, Edward walked into the cave.
Dozens of eyes looked at him as he passed through, they were old and young, dozens of people curled up in the shadow of the cave, they were mostly naked, only a small piece of animal skin covering their lower body, all eyes were full of vigilance. Edward felt a little suffocated, thinking that if he was not brought here by Night, these people would tear him apart.

"Chief, I brought back a person who had no place to return too. He is called Light. He would be helpful to us and knows a lot of things we do not know about. I want you to take him in."
Night asked from an old man who was full of wrinkles and looked very old.
The Chief was draped in animal skin and carried a cane. He coughed a few time before trembling a bit as he spoke:
“You brought a stranger into our cave… into our home?”
Just as he said that he slammed his cane on the ground and shouted:
"Our people have lived here for so many moons, and have never let strangers step in our place!"
The Chief appeared angry.
Slightly dissatisfied, Edward interjected:
“Today… this morning… didn’t Titan also come here and steal Night? Isn’t he a stranger for you?”
"Shut up!" Chief roared back in anger.
Edward knew for prehistoric people, it was always better to appear strong and stubborn than to just back down. He decided to speak up.
"Chief, I have lost contact with my tribe, I just ask you to take me in. Let me have a place to live and I will definitely contribute with my skills. I can ensure you people have meat.”
As soon as the voice fell, everyone gave a sneer, and almost everyone laughed at him.
"This is true! Today he easily caught a rabbit! I also roasted rabbit meat, barbecue is really fragrant! Do not believe me, look at the rabbit skin around his waist!" Night blurted out everything trying to help out Edward.
Everyone’s eyes including the Chief went towards Edward’s lower body. Even though Edward felt uncomfortable the way everyone was staring at his lower body, including some very beautiful ladies of the tribe, he could barely stop his body from heating up.
‘No erection No erection No erection’ He chanted the mantra in his mind.
It was no wonder that the tribe of Night has been so miserable. Of course, it was estimated that other tribes were not any better.
This kind of old-fashioned group was only waiting for the end. Prehistoric men were not that simple. They were a curious bunch that knew to take risks. That’s how humanity progressed but it was obvious not every tribe survived. It felt weird to him that they were making such a huge ruckus just because someone wanted to join their tribe.
"I can create a fire and I can cook our preys!” Edward blurted out.
“Fire? FIRE! You can create fire which is but the wraith of nature and god?” The old Chief with his dirty face spoke a bit too close to Edward making his spit and saliva fly towards Edward’s face.
"Let's do it, let's go outside, I will show it to you."
Making fire was the only thing he could do now, for this group of primitive people to see.
As he said, he and Night walked out of the cave, and a lot of people behind him followed.
Once on flat land, Edward got to work. Night knew what Edward was doing so she quickly helped out by collecting dry branches and grass.
Edward placed two stones from the ground as the base, laid the dry grass underneath and piled up the dry branches. After everything was ready, he took out the bow drill which was hanging from his waist.
He pressed the auger in his left hand and pulled the bow drill back and forth quickly. It didn't even take five minutes. The wooden stick started creating smoke, and then he quickly put the stick under the hay and blew it continuously. A few breaths later, a fire started.
The Chief and the rest of the tribe had almost the same reaction. They screamed in fear and quickly retreated a dozen steps. Edward knew they were not that courageous but he didn’t think they would scatter and flee like ants to this extend.
‘Night was alteast better because she still had her curious nature that wanted to see what this actually was. They all show no curiosity but just plain fear.’
At this moment, it was already sunset. Night skillfully added firewood into the fire to make it stable. Her delicate face was painted with a tinge of red. It wasn’t known if it was because of the fire or the sunset but nonetheless it only served to highlight her beauty.
Edward stood up from the fire and spread his arms wide open as he spoke to the crowd.
“Have I not proven myself?”
The Chief took out a stone spear as he pointed it towards Edward and screamed angrily:
“Hurry! Quick destroy the fire or you anger the gods. DO YOU WANT TO BURN US ALL DOWN?”
…
..
.
‘Dude calm down, it’s just a tiny fire.’
