《From Chief to the Emperor (Rewrite)》Chapter 2: A new world

Under immense pain, Edward’s eyelids twitched slightly. His body was screaming in pain, and he felt his head aching. His eyelids felt heavy as he groaned. He felt as if something soft and furry was moving around his body. Still, he was too disoriented to figure anything out.

‘Is that Billy?’

As he tried to open his heavy eyelids, what greeted him was a furry ass. Two plump red ass checks were there to greet him the moment his eyes regained a bit of vision. His mind was filled with confusion and uncertainty.

As he regained more of his senses and vision, he saw that it was actually a monkey squatting on his chest but had his back towards him. From the corner of his eyes, he could see a few others were hopping jubilantly, making their usual monkey noises. He could feel and hear something being torn apart, a sound that resembled fabric being ripped.

‘Is it my shorts?’

He wanted to get up straight, but his limbs had no strength.

He couldn't figure out if he was in a dream. He could barely shake his body slightly before he was so exhausted that he fell asleep again.

The moment his eyes closed, a sound whispered intermittently in his ears:

"System......system....fault......system failure. System......fault......"

This voice kept repeating the same sentence, like a broken radio with a bad signal. Edward's head was dizzy, and he was confused. It was impossible to tell whether it was a dream or a reality.

***************

At the same time, on the nearby high cliff, there stood something or someone tall that cast a shadow over Edward’s body. A crisp and pleasing shout was heard before the monkeys screamed and fled.

When Edward regained his consciousness again, he felt that something sweet flowed between his lips and teeth. Suddenly, being aware of his parched throat, he pouted and greedily started to swallow.

He regained some bits of his energy, enough to finally open his eyes. Bright sun rays blinded his vision white for a moment before his iris adjusted themselves. What greeted him was a sight of a clear blue sky. The sun high up in the sky, and the air felt fresher than what he was used to.

This time, thankfully, he saw no monkeys.

Under the clear diamond sky, he saw to his side, a girl holding a handful of berries in her hand above his lips. Her fingers covered with red juice as the liquid flowed from her squeezing fingers onto his lips.

"Are you awake?" The black-haired beauty asked him.

Her dark eyes revealed pity directed towards him. Edward saw the clearest, brightest, and purest eyes have ever seen in his life.

It took him a few moments to reorient himself as his senses returned. He could feel something soft behind his head. He suddenly realized that he laid on her lap. A cold breeze passed through the green forest he found himself in. His body shivered, and he found himself totally naked.

A mixed scent of the berries along the girl's smell on whose lap he laid entered his nose. His body heated up a bit from the intimacy. His body slightly reacted to it.

It was said that men have at least a dozen dirty thoughts every day, let alone how such a scene could not induce a reaction in him?

He hurriedly rolled to the side and stood up. Squinting his eyes, he asked:

"You...who are you?"

‘After Billy and I rolled off the cliff, I had lost consciousness. Was I saved?’

But the girl in front of him was dressed “differently.” Her lower body was covered with a leopard print skirt while her upper body was covered in animal skin.

‘How can a girl be so strangely dressed? There are no ethnic minorities in this neighborhood, nor is it a wild style show on the Paris fashion catwalk? What exactly is going on?’

The leopard skirt girl stood up and looked at him blankly, not seeming to know how to answer his question.

Edward noticed that although he was on a cobblestoned riverbed, the landform was utterly different. The hillsides were full of giant trees thick enough that a single person couldn’t even embrace them. He heard the sound of water falling just like that of a waterfall.

In short, the image that was being painted in his mind was that if a wild forest similar to that of ages ago, untouched by humanity. He had seen such forests in movies like Jurassic Park.

‘I don’t even have to think about it. I am sure this is definitely not the suburb of the city that I am familiar with. This is no forest that I am aware of. Even in the whole country, I haven’t seen a place like this.’

He was confused about the sound he had previously heard when he lost consciousness but decided to think about it later.

"Since you are fine, I should leave."

His train of thought quickly came to a halt when he realized that the girl was speaking in a strange language, never heard before. Yet Edward could understand whatever she spoke. In fact, it was already a miracle that he could converse with her in the same language.

He carefully looked at the slender girl in front of him. The long hair of hers was like a shawl, a little messy but had the thickness. Her delicate face was unruly and full of wild beauty. There was no trace of artificial decoration on her body.

He noticed that even though the woman was a rare natural beauty, she still dressed differently and was actually barefooted.

A thought came to his mind whether he was in a dream or another world, but he quickly dismissed it.

Before he realized, the girl was turning around ready to leave.

Embarrassed yet in a hurry to cover himself up, he quickly found a large leaf and some vines to cover his waist. He had enough survival skills to survive in the wilderness. Then while panting, he followed behind her.

"Wait......, Where am I? What is this place, and I am so hungry. Do you have anything to eat?"

The girl hesitated but eventually stopped. She revealed a pitiful look in her dark, clear eyes. She reached out and took out a large wrapped leaf.

When she opened the leaf, Edward’s scalp suddenly felt numb, and he felt goosebumps!

There were dead frogs, mites, insects, some berries, and various stems that could not be named.

The girl pinched a small cockroach that was still squirming and handed it over.

He squinted and didn't dare to reach out.

He asked, "This... is... for me?"

The girl frowned and seemed a little angry:

“Which tribe are you from? Don’t you know how to eat? No wonder you’re starving to death!”

She put the locust carefully back and changed it with a frog.

She tore off a leg, took half a bite, and then handed over. Pressured into it, he decided to try the leg.

Edward’s stomach churned, and he felt sick, he disgustingly spat out!

‘What the hell am I even doing? What the fuck is going on? In what era have I gotten trapped in? Do people even eat like that when there is fast food? I’ve eaten from the wild many times during my wilderness camping, but even then, it wasn’t like this.’’

"You....eat... this? How do you not need to roast this on fire?" His voice trembled, and he felt he had to confirm something.

"Fire?" The girl screamed. "Are you an idiot? Fire comes when god is angry, who dares to provoke god?"

Edward’s eyes went blank, and he almost fainted! He felt something was amiss. He was sure that everything around him was real and not just a fantasy. He knew he had fallen down the cliff during his previous truffle. It was impossible to survive the fall.

He was now somewhat sure that somehow after falling down that cliff, Edward had died, and now he was brought into this world. How else could you explain why he was naked or his environment or this lady in front of him who ate a frog raw?

"Well, anyway, you are already awake. If you are hungry, you will find something to eat. I will go back." She glanced at the forest from the hillside and looked alert.

The girl had a good heart. Even though she wanted to care for someone of the same species as her, there was a limit to what she could do. She looked towards the jungle and started to head deep inside.

Edward, who descended from the sky, came to such a strange world, realized that he might be in the wilderness hundreds of thousands of years ago. He wasn’t sure if he was right, but he needed an answer to calm his heart. This was the best explanation he could come up with.

His mind was in a turmoil, but at least the prehistoric girl in front of him was not malicious to him. On the contrary, she even saved him.

In his 26-year-old life journey, especially after his parent’s death, he had long understood that when your life has undergone significant changes, the first thing was to learn to accept it openly. There was no point in self-blame.

Mentally, Edward made a checklist.

‘Follow the girl and gather information. Gather some dry wood and try making fire. Find a good source of water and food.’

Deep in his thoughts, he found himself lagging behind the girl. He hurriedly trotted towards the girl.

"I..... am called Edward, what is your name?"

"Egwaar?" The girl frowned while feeling that his name felt strange to pronunciation.

That was when Edward realized his mistake. He had spoken his name in English and not in the language of this world. This time he repeated his name in the language this girl was speaking in.

"You can call me Light, what is your name?" he asked her.

‘Weird, I called myself as Edward in her language, but the word that was spoken was Light. Does that mean my name means Light in their language? Will have to work more on that later.’

He quickly made another mental note.

"My name is Night." The girl glanced at him.

‘No wonder her voice was so nice, just like her name. It is a simple name, but maybe people here have simpler naming sense.’

Edward followed along Night, heading deep into the woods for a while. From time to time, he secretly reached out and squatted and scratched his openly hanging balls. Not the perfect image to be shown to such a nice looking lady, but Night herself didn’t look at that part of his body.

‘Maybe she checked that place out before I opened my eyes? Why are my clothes gone? Also, what happened to that fat Billy? Where is he at the moment?’

He realized he should just forget it, he had to be alive and well for now, and can’t take care of these bad things right now.

‘If this is the prehistoric era, I believe it is then an alone individual will only survive for a few days. I have to rely on a tribe to survive. Anyway, no matter what, I am relying on her.’

"Night... Hey, let me go with you, I am alone, there is no place for me to go to." He cried and sorrowful, pitifully pleaded to her.

"You don't have to follow me. As long as you use the food I gave you, you’ll live. You can also find a lot of food in this forest. I have to go back." The girl frowned and refused; her face was somewhat doubtful.

Night insisted on leaving, and Edward, who was helpless, started to get very anxious.

‘No, I have to think of a way for her to take me back!’

At that moment, he found something under his foot and immediately pulled Night’s arm.

"Don't go, you have to see this!"
