“This is a terrible idea.”

“Anyone ever told you that you worry too much? It’ll be fine.”

Arnel looked at the grinning Alpha and knew he should just go along with it. He couldn’t help himself. “The whole plan depends on the dragon and…well, you spoke to him. Do you trust him to do his duty?”

“Ha! That’s what you are worried about? That creature is a unique created by the Creator. Don’t worry about it.”

“How can I not? Look I know I’m not going to change anyone’s mind on this but I just want to say the dragon is hardly the most trustworthy creature we have. He’s powerful but fickle. How do we even know he’s going to attack when we need him to?”

“You worry too much. It’ll be fine. Besides, it’s not like we have a lot of choices here.”

Faced with such irrational optimism, Arnel had no choice but to concede to the Alpha. In truth the plan wasn’t all that bad, it just depends a lot on the dragon. Sighing once again, he admitted defeat and went to inform his pack. If he was still a senior Guardsman of Yachium, it would be called a patrol but the Kin had a different name for the same thing.

Somehow the Kin believes that being a former senior Guardsman of Yachium means he could command a pack as well. He looked over the pack and only recognized Jeffery. Ransford was deem too injured to continue and Meadow was dead. Arnel felt a little sorry for the girl. She was annoying but she was under his command. At least she got to see a big city before she went to the beyond.

“Over here everyone. This is the plan.”

“This is a terrible idea. Why did I agree to this?”

The dragon grumbled as he tried to be comfortable. He was sitting on top of the walls of the city of Yachium and the wall was a little too small to be comfortable. The location was not of his choosing. The Speaker had ‘advised’ him to position himself on top of the wall near the Southern Gate so that the gathering human defenders could see him. The Speaker want the humans to see his majesty. She wanted them to feel his presence.

The dragon didn’t really understand what all of that mean but from what the Speaker said, he basically just has to act like an arrogant creature who looks down on the humans. Since that’s how he felt about the humans anyway, it didn’t sound too hard so he quickly agreed to the Speaker’s plan.

He really should have thought about it more before agreeing.

The top of the wall offered the dragon a good view of the city and he could easily see the inner city where the humans had set up their defense. Even with a glance, the dragon could see the differences between the two districts.

As a normal member of the Dungeon Hive, the dragon could tell that the materials used to make the buildings in the inner city were much better than the ones near him. The buildings near the dragon were mostly made of wood while the buildings of the inner city had more stone in them and the dragon could tell that a lot more care and planning had been used to design the buildings.

The buildings of the inner city were all bigger and more beautiful than the buildings nearer to the gate with wider streets and more spacing between buildings. Most of the inner city buildings also had curved archways and at least two had strange stone statues that spout out water. The dragon hope that those statues won’t get destroy in the coming battle; the dragon believe that the Water spirits of the Hive would love to know how the humans made these statues.

The dragon was not optimistic about their chances.

The dragon had noticed that the human city had open spaces at certain locations and there was a big one between the inner city and the Southern District. The humans had set up a barrier at the far end of the open space but the dragon don’t know why they bothered. The barrier was made up of carts, wagons, and wooden tables and he doubt it would serve as any deterrence to the Kin. The humans behind the barrier however were a different matter.

Two lines of humans stood behind the makeshift barrier and the humans looked strong. Their armor and weapons looked pristine and even from where he was, the dragon could sense the determination in them. The humans were not going to roll over.

Just beyond the sight of the humans was the Kin. They were hiding amidst the buildings before the inner city and the dragon could sense that almost all of them would be involved in the coming battle. The Speaker was right when she said that this battle would decide everything. Both sides were going to give it their all.

However none of this helps the dragon because at this moment he was bored! He has been on the wall since speaking to the Speaker. He has waiting for the battle to begin but both sides had been busy getting ready instead of fighting.

“This is boring.”

The dragon grumbled once again. To his mind, he had waited too long already and the battle still hasn’t begun. This was too much! The dragon raised his head and roared! There wasn’t a single person in the city who did not hear him. All eyes looked in his direction and the dragon decided that he had waited long enough. He stood up, spread his wings and took to the air. He immediately headed toward the humans. Ready or not, here he comes!

Everyone within the city heard the roar and all eyes turned towards the dragon. Arnel was no different. He looked at the magnificent creature and saw with horror as it took to the air. The horror compounded when he see that the dragon was flying towards the inner city. He cursed.

“Oh, that stupid idiotic dragon.”
