《Acacia Chronicle》Side Story: Affairs in an Early Afternoon Window, Part III
Advertisement
Later, on the weekend, lunch at the Midwinter’s Dream…
It was that fancy café that Ari had been gushing about, left unvisited that fateful day after those bloody affairs behind that early afternoon window.
Isha sat upon a high-top seat by the counter with her Aunt Elena, watching the steak that was being prepared for her by a chef completely focused upon his work. Beautifully marbled and cut into the shape of large and thick square, and garnished with sliced garlic and olive oil and various eastern spices from the dragon-held lands of the Cathanian Imperium, it sizzled beautifully upon the heated steel of a hot plate grill, so close to completion.
In light of Ari’s enthusiasm for this place, it was everything and more to want. The sight of fellow diners, the aroma of grilled steak and sizzling olives, and the lilting melody of a pianist plying his craft in the background of it all, made her want to feel that way. And yet, she found herself thinking of other things, of Lana and Erin, and of Lady Priscilla. And perhaps, more unsettlingly so, that rush of power that she felt when she held the latter’s life within her grasp.
It would have been so simple, so easy. Her neck and spine, snappable like brittle twigs. And then the villainess would have been dead, just like that. Easily. And yet…
“Damn, so you were that close, eh?” Elena remarked out loud, casually sipping upon a glass of ice-cold beer. “Should’ve iced the bitch.”
“I wanted to, back there…” Isha answered with a frown, her gaze still fixated upon the sizzling steak. “Maybe I ought to, but then…”
“For real, though? I’m glad ya didn’t.”
Isha turned to look at her Aunt.
“Why?”
“It’s a dark path to go down on,” Elena answered grimly, as she placed her glass upon the counter. “Sure, the first time’s a little hard. But then after that… it gets a whole lot easier.”

“Is that a bad thing, Aunty?”
Elena nodded, much to Isha’s dismay.
“I know, I know! I’m not exactly the most qualified person out there to be preaching the virtues of restraint,” Elena declared, as she flashed a smile at Isha. “But then…”
There was a moment of silence ensued after that, as Elena and Isha watched the chef cut the steak into smaller squares, sizzling each side of each one of them lightly and briefly upon the stove. Heavy with the aroma of olives and garlic and pepper, and plated with those garlic slices that had sizzled alongside it, the steak was almost ready.
“It’s a little too late for a lot of us…” Elena mused out loud as she reached for her beer once again, her crimson eyes gazing thoughtfully into its golden hue. “But I hope, sincerely, that you and Claire will never need to get your hands dirty. Elicia willing.”

8 6872Abyssal Road Trip
Julia is a practical person. All she wanted was a home and family to call her own, a small piece of the world she could say was hers.Instead of arriving home one evening, Julia finds herself in the Abyss. Now she's not only far from home, she's trapped inside a cursed body. The curse may have caught her, but she certainly wouldn't let it or anyone else tell her how she has to live. It's not a hero that you have to watch out for, it's the practical person when you're in the way of their freedom. Hell is a place for the organised torment of the guilty in life while the Abyss is its sociopathic disorganised cousin. There’s darkness in the Abyss, and darkness within her that might draw it in. But she'll need to risk its strength, for to get out, she'll need to become strong enough to descend to its deepest reaches. Yet it's in those places that the most dangerous secrets lie in wait. These aren’t the type of secrets that are valuable, or that anyone wants to be found. These secrets destroy. Image by Comfreak from Pixabay This is my first story, and a work in progress. Feel free to point out any errors, and I will gladly fix them. The ending and the major plot points are all planned out. Julia's story is more of a slow burn, and she won't always be in trouble. There will be breathers between the action. Though the story is about Julia, she is not the only force in play. Her actions will affect others, and the actions of others will affect her as well. 8 130A Comprehensive Guide for Alchemy
A guidebook designed for alchemists of every tier to help refine their craft and provide direction. Formed of countless recipes and techniques, developed over the ages by the collective knowledge of our study, this is a definite supplement material for any aspiring alchemist. This discusses not only the recipe itself, giving you instructions for each one, but directs you to things not to do in the recipe. It isn’t uncommon for starting alchemists to unknowingly make a small change, and before they know it… BOOM! For a relatively minor price you too purchase this guidebook and start working towards building up a proper base of knowledge in alchemy. Even those with considerable ability may learn a thing or two from this! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This is purely a guidebook for alchemy in a magical world, and as such contains no story elements. The cultivation (and alchemical) tiers are not at all necessary to understand the book, but exist because in the context of the book it would be important. I'm more than happy to write up any alchemical ideas you've ever had, totally not using this as an excuse to reduce my creative thinking hours... Just PM the idea or post it as a comment in any chapter, with a bit of balancing there's pretty much no idea that can't be done! Hiatus while I focus on shorter stories for competitions
8 279Summoning America
Entirely cut off from Earth, the United States finds itself in a scientific impossibility: the entire country, including the continental landmass and separated states and territories, was transported to another world. Unlike Earth, this new planet boasts phenomena unknown to science. Magic reigns supreme in this new region of the universe, bolstered by the natives' own scientific progression. Monsters roam wastelands and dungeons, subsisting off unfortunate travelers, local fauna, and sometimes even entire towns! Ambassador Samuel Anders is tasked with contacting the various nations and entities of this new world. Despite his best attempts at diplomacy, the arrogance and hostility of the natives prove to be an unnavigable barrier. War is the only alternative. Eventually, fears surface regarding an ancient evil: the Ravernal Empire. How will the United States handle the threats of this new neighborhood? What magical wonders will its adventurous citizens find? This Summoning Japan inspired work will follow the United States as it is summoned to a New World. The story will begin with the United States’ initial encounter with the Rodenius continent. Although starting similarly to the original story, Summoning America will begin to diverge greatly as the war against the Lourian Kingdom comes to an end. For the context of this work, I expect that you have already familiarized yourself with the original piece, “Summoning Japan” also known as “Nihonkoku Shoukan”.
