Chapter 27: Demoness
“Eu you...”
Surprised at the sudden turn of events, I could only utter but didn’t know what exactly to say.
“What you? Hmph, don’t misunderstand. Just because I wanted to be the mother of your child, it doesn’t mean that I like you that way!”
...That sounds awfully like some third-rate tsundere heroine…
“...Why are you looking at me like that?”
“Nothing.”
Well, I doubt she knows what a tsundere is so I just shrugged.
Anyway, I doubt she really likes me just because of that. For someone like Eu who has no family left, it can be that she simply wanted to be called mother by Aeran. There’s no need to force her not to do it.
El should also have understood since she’s not yelling at me again...hai, she sure matures fast~
“Lucas, you do know that since I’m bounded to you, I know what you're thinking to some extent right!? I have always been mature!”
“Hey, in my defense, you yell at me a lot for no reason at all.”
“That’s because you’re just too dense!”
Come on now, I’m not that dense...probably...maybe?
Wait, by thinking that I’m actually dense, then does that mean that every girl I’ve met until now...likes me?
...Nah. That’s stupid.
I bet El’s just acting all bitter.
Convincing myself so, I nodded in my head and focused on the [Land of the Dead]. Well, what’s left of it anyway.
“Alright Aeran, I’ll take you back home.”
“Un!”
After Aeran’s cute nod, I sent her back to the [World Home] then looked at the bewildered demons hiding in the [Land of the Dead]. I snorted and controlled the earth to tangle their feet and slice their tendons.
The demons were unable to stand up properly and they all fell.
Frankly, these demons are just cannon fodder so instead of being used later by Slazore as meat shields, I already made them unable to battle.
“Slazore! Come out here you traitor!”
Eu shouted in anger.
“Hmph! My Queen, you think that now that you got yourself a helper, you can change what’s about to come?”
I’ve already seen everything inside the [Land of the Dead] thanks to my [World Eyes]. Naturally, I’ve seen these guys too but I didn’t make a move on them yet.
There were six people who came. One of them had an ugly scar across his face who let out a sinister sneer as he looked at Eu.
This must be Slazore.
Meanwhile, the remaining five demons wore the same uniformed robe. One of which held what seems to be a silver pot where faint transparent figures seemed to be surrounding it...I’m willing to bet a hundred bucks that this pot has something to do with this [Land of the Dead].
“This man...”
“It can’t be.”
“To think we would bump into him...”
“Ahh, I shouldn’t have joined in this group!”
“You guys, if that guy is indeed ‘that man’, then what are we still waiting around here for!? Let’s run!”
….Eh?
Why are those five suddenly leaving in panic?
...And ‘that man’...that’s probably me right? This is because of the prophecy again right?
Then doesn’t this mean that the dark forces have already identified me?
I frowned and thought of multiple possible scenarios.
“You-...where are you all going!?”
Slazore shouted in anger, surprise, and worry as he saw the five demons from the other world suddenly feeling.
Heh, I bet that this guy was arrogant before because of those five demons. Yet now that they have suddenly left in panic, he can’t help but worry about why and what will happen to him.

“Damn, battling the man of the prophecy is not in our contract! This world is done for. You demons wouldn't survive this. I’m not dying for some small world like this!”
One of the other world demons shouted as he continued to flee.
“Quickly run to the gate!”
Gate? So they didn’t have a [World Key] huh? Well, I think it was mentioned before that the [World Key] I have is the only one in the universe so I doubt there’s a second one but still...it wouldn't hurt to worry right?
Nevertheless, they still have some gate that can lead them back to their home world. That’s still just as bad as having a [World Key].
Though I don’t know how this gate came about, I can’t let them leave just like this.
“Eu, you can take on that guy right? I’ll deal with those five.”
“Un. Seems like they’re afraid of you. This should be easy.”
Eu laughed and no longer minded me as she focused on Slazore.
“Hmph! Your demons from the other world have abandoned you. Now it’s time for you to pay for killing my father!”
“Hah! So what? I don’t need them anymore! I’ve absorbed plenty of calamity power from you over the years. And as for your father, I admit that I had a hand in killing him. But at least I’m not the brat who killed her own mother just by existing!”
“Leave my mother out of this!”
Seeing Eu whose almost in the brink of snapping, I hesitated for a bit before remembering that she was able to calm herself before.
I should trust that she would be able to do the same now and focus on the demons of the other world.
Thinking so, I shot forward with [Blink] and caught up to the fleeing demons easily.
“Since you all are already here, don’t leave now!”
One of them clicked his tongue seeing me appear in front of them.
“Dammit, are we really going to die here?”
“Fuck! We’ll just have to fight it out! Think about it, it’s still not confirmed whether he really is the one! If he dies today, then that just means he was not destined to live and fulfill that prophecy!”
“Tsk, there’s no other choice! It’s either him, or us!”
“I refuse to believe he can kill all five of us!”
“Activate the [Deathly Shadow Pot]!”
...Why do I feel like I’m the bad guy here?
They give off the vibes of a protagonist that wanted to go against their destiny of dying to the ‘chosen man’.
Like one of those Chinese novels where the weak main character fights it out with the strongest dragons amongst men in order to fight for his destiny. That kind of vibe.
While I was still weirded out, the demon holding the ghostly-looking pot chanted as the pot began to glow.
“...What a slow ass activation. Hmph!”
Naturally, why should I let him finish?
Manipulating a gust of wind, I blew the pot in his hands away and caught it. Now, what could this pot be?
Name
Deathly Shadow Pot
Rank
B
Requirements
Demon Race
Able to attract the dead and causes the surrounding land to be cursed.
Using a special chant, it can summon an army of Ghosts and Wraiths that will obey your every command.
...Fuck! That was so fucking close!
I have no idea how will I suppose to fight an army of intangible beings like ghosts or wraiths! If I had let that guy finish, then I would truly have a hard time battling!
Thankfully, I didn’t wait for him to finish…
Still, it’s a waste that it only works for the demon race so I can’t use it.
“Damn! I told you guys that I should have started the chant while escaping!”
“You didn’t say shit!”
“Dammit! Just attack together!”
I must say...watching them banter while trying to fight...is really annoying. Is this what it feels like when the villains fight Spiderman or Deadpool? I can’t believe that I’m on the receiving end of this…
...Wait, why did I just liken myself to a villain!?
“[Flame Storm]!”
“[Water Slide]!”
“[Earthquake]!”
“[Wind Cyclone]!”
“[Darkness Bloom]!”
Wow, each one had different elements...just nice, I don’t need to put in much effort then.
With a simple thought, I controlled each element to turn and hit the demons. I didn’t repel them back to the caster, but to those whose element is weaker than the attack.
To be precise, I made the [Flame Storm] turn to the wind demon, resulting to him being burned to death.
[Water Slide] to the fire demon, drowning him to death.
[Earthquake] to the water demon, absorbing him to death.
[Wind Cyclone] to the earth demon, slicing him to death.
Instantly, I leveled up thrice and one demon was left standing as I controlled the dark element he released to surround me, seemingly thinking of what to do with him.
...Well, I don’t really need to think of a complicated way to kill him. I’m sure beheading him will do just fine. But first, let’s ask some questions.
The demon that was left alive was also the one who had previously wielded the [Deathly Shadow Pot] so it’s just nice that I can ask him more questions.
“This pot, you got it from the [Land of the Dead]?”
“Y-yes! It’s the reason why the land has become cursed!”
The dark demon answered while shivering.
I nodded and continued asking.
“So how exactly were you guys able to step on this land without being cursed?”
“T-the land is cursed. As a dark mage, I am somewhat immune to such curses. All I need is enough time to find that pot and use it. With it, I can control which ones can enter the land without being cursed!”
Ah, so a passive curse resistance huh? How nice, I also want that passive skill…
I can’t be calling Aeran out all the time I come across a cursed land right?
“Now tell me, why are you all so afraid to see me? It seems like seeing me was already equivalent to your deaths?”
“Y-yes...that is so, isn’t it? You are the man from the prophecy. You are destined to live through all the trials and fight with our Lord! Though the end result of the prophecy is not known, the fight will happen no matter what. This means that until then, you wouldn’t die...and if you wouldn’t die, then isn’t it obvious that our result wouldn't be the same?”
...I see. In other words, they know that I will live till that ‘destined battle’, but they don’t know what I’ll be doing until then right?
Is this why they haven’t made a move on me yet? Because they know that they will already fail? Or is there something else?
They can’t possibly rely only on a mere prophecy…
“Well, since you know you will die anyway, why are you obediently answering my questions?”
I asked the dark demon since I was truly confused at this part.
When I saw the dark demon sneer, my heart sunk.
“Heh, what else but to buy some time?”
*Boom*
Suddenly, from the mountains beside the [Land of the Dead]. A loud explosion resounded throughout the area.
“Though I may die today, you will also die once today. Isn’t it that you can die once per day? It would be such a waste not to use it!”
“Bastard!”
I roared and snapped the dark demon’s head in anger.
No longer minding the dark demon’s corpse, I turned my attention to the mountains.
That should be the location of the gate...however, that explosion just now doesn’t seem to be the gate’s destruction, but rather, something...no, someone else!
Someone insanely powerful is coming!
Just as I thought of this, I felt a chilling gaze from above!
I lifted my head and saw a woman with horns floating in midair!
Another demon from the other world!
The demoness had flowing blonde hair and golden eyes that seemed to be able to pierce anything with its gaze alone!
Even though her beauty was certainly otherworldly, right now, all I can feel from her is dread and fear!
What kind of monster is this!?
“Lucas! Hurry and retreat! The [World Home]! Or [Earth]! Anywhere is fine! You need to quickly flee!”
El shouted in panic and worry.
“But...how about this world?”
“Idiot! There’s no need to care about this world! You can’t fight her!”
I gritted my teeth and hesitated.
Can I just leave and pretend nothing happened? Will I be able to still live knowing that I abandoned a whole world?
Fuck! What am I supposed to do!
I don’t want to be a hero! I never did! But my conscience still wouldn't permit me abandoning a whole world!
But then, even if I were to stay, what could I do!? What can I do!?
“Oh? You’re not leaving?”
The demoness spoke coldly while looking down on me from above.
“If I leave, are you going to leave this world alone?”
“Hah, that would be quite stupid. Even if this world is but a small one, what our Lord wants, no one can take! Don’t think that I’m afraid of you, boy. I only need to flick my finger to kill you once. And if I kill you again, then that means you’re simply not the man from the prophecy, but a mere ant who wanted to become a dragon.”
I clenched my fists hard as I hesitated.
To leave or not to leave, that is the question.
...Why am I pulling a Shakespeare at a time like this!?
“AAAHHH! Fuck it! Let’s fight!”
“No! Lucas! Don’t do this!”
“No, El. I’m done running away! It’s time I face my destiny! Heh, if I die, then that means I proved the prophecy wrong! If I live, then that means I won’t die!”
“You...this isn’t the time to be trying to sound cool! Be obedient and leave this world!”
Somehow, hearing El worrying about me so much managed to calm me down.
I smiled and no longer hesitated.
Today, I will fight.
“I’m sorry, El. I can release Mei, Aeran, and Vil in case I really die. But you would have to stay with me...”
“...Idiot. It’s fine! Since you’re going to fight anyway, then you’d better win! This is this queen’s command!”
Finally hearing El agree, I sighed in relief and grinned.
“As you wish, my queen.”
With that done, I opened the [World Gate] and brought out Mei, Aeran, and Vil.
“Master, why are we-...”
“Mei, if I don’t come back in three days at most, I want you to visit my parents and tell them-”
“Master. I wouldn't listen to you!”
Mei cried out while I was still speaking. At first, she was confused why she was brought out, but seeing the situation and hearing what I was about to say to her made her realize something.
“Mei...”
“I know that I can’t help in this fight, but I will definitely wait for you back in [Earth]! No matter how long it takes! Be it a year or hundreds of years! That’s why...make sure to come back!”
“Papa! I will also wait! I will be a good girl! That’s why, papa, don’t leave me!”
*Vi vi vii vii!!!*
“You three...”
Seeing the three’s crying faces, including the little horned rabbit Vil, my heart warmed and I felt myself became even calmer.
I smiled and spoke.
“Alright then. Just wait for me. But if I don’t come back, Mei, you need to delete my browser history!”
“Eh?”
I laughed and used this moment when they were confused to push them into the [World Gate] before closing it immediately.
Now then...it’s time to deal with the Final BOSS.
“You must be glad huh?”
“What do you mean?”
The demoness asked with an unmoving expression as if the scene I had with Mei and the other earlier didn’t happen at all.
“Well, after all those death flags I just raised, you’ll now have a higher chance of killing me!”
“Regardless of such flags, your death is already inevitable the moment you chose to fight me.”
The demoness coldly retorted.
“Heh, that may be so. But I just want you to know. Those death flags...I’ll crush them all together with you!”
“I am curious as to what makes you so confident in actually thinking of killing me.”
“Well, since you made those girls worry so much about me...”
The smile on my face faded.
“Congratulations. You have successfully angered me.”
*BOOM!!!*

The Dao of Magic
Here I am, sitting on a mountain so far away from civilisation it might as well be the godforsaken arse of the world, about to ascend. Can't wait to leave this crapfest of a planet... Turns out that the higher ups decided that an unaffiliated rogue like me is too big of a risk to let run around free. Seems like this entire cultivation world is a late stage capitalist money making machine for the powers that be in the higher realms, and me stealing the good loot in front of their descendants and sect disciples noses finally pissed them off enough to take action. First, they sent all the sect masters and hidden dao protectors to off me - which failed, obviously. Heh, afterwards they simply bitch slapped me out of their universe though. That is interesting and all, but I just woke up in a valley watching some critters murder each other while trying not to freak out about how bad it smells here.Soo… where the fuck am I? Why is that deer fighting a feathery squirrel? Why am I teaching this baby rabbit saved from a cannibalistic mother how to kick beings in the face with the power of qi?Releases a couple of times a week! Re: Dragonize
After an unexpected turn of events, Drew must now survive in a world full of challenges with life-or-death stakes. Gone are the days when the biggest problems to face were awkward small-talk at physics department luncheons or mountains of lab work; this former physicist is now adrift in an unfamiliar land without any equipment. Now, Drew's only tool (if it can be called that) is a System, which provides constant reminders of all of the things that are still out of reach for a low-level being who's just arrived in a new world. Luckily, Drew has one powerful asset when taking on the challenges of this new world: surviving violent conflict is a lot easier when you have the power of a dragon at your disposal. Still, Drew has always considered violence a last resort. Why turn to fists (or claws) when a bit of quiet consideration might expose a better path forward? Maybe a life of quiet contemplation is still within reach for this former academic researcher. ...Or maybe not. It probably won't be a life of bloodless pacifism. Additional information for those who wish to calibrate their expectations (I'm adding this based on a few comments I received from readers who feel that the story is not what they expected from a dragon-themed story): Re: Dragonize is not a power fantasy -- or at least, it's not intended to be one. Re: Dragonize is a progression fantasy starting with a protagonist who must start at the bottom (or close to it), and work gradually upwards, making incremental progress with plenty of setbacks along the way. The protagonist, as someone coming from the world of academia, tends to be cautious, methodical, and contemplative. As such, expect this story to contain more than a few digressions as the main character takes the time to pontificate on a variety of topics ranging from Newtonian physics and horology to the nature of existence and the ethical dilemmas associated with being an obligate carnivore.

Not for gain, but to the ends of permanence and peace. The cessation of their suffering. At the apex, looking down on those confined, those unenlightened, we felt safe. So few stand shoulder to shoulder with us. Fewer yet of them are so united as we. Porter, a godkiller for the Eidolons, is out of the job.
