《My not so Peaceful Dungeon Life》Side 1

I’m the guild master of Ruran town. I used to be a famous B rank adventurer from the capital in the adventurer team Lightning Fang. Our adventurer team was ranks as an A rank team and we were known across the continent for our exploits. We slayed a dragon, conquered the unbeatable dungeon known as Wizard’s Tower, and even slayed a kraken that was stopping a third of the continent from fishing. But after that the other 4 members of my party got married to each other! The 2 happy couples made me be their best man even and they all retired! How come I’m the only one who gets left out?
After they settled down I got stuck with this lousy job. That damn king said that he had the perfect job for an experienced adventurer and I would be helping fight incoming monsters in a town on the edge of the kingdom. Of course no monsters actually come here because the court magician had to make his new magic ‘Warding Magic’ that repels monsters. I have had absolutely nothing to do except train 3rd class adventurers and sign paperwork the last 6 years. I mean how was I supposed to tell the king that I didn’t want the position when he officially announced it like that without even telling me the details!
Today, though I might have my first good fight in ages.
“Sir, you really can’t go you need to finish these 3 stacks of papers!”
Damn, secretary trying to keep me from the action. “So, what did the dungeon look like? Could you tell what kind of a dungeon it was or what monsters it had?”
“N-no, Mr. Goswin, but it might be a puzzle dungeon with some sort of trap to kill the adventurers.”

Shit, I always used to leave the puzzles to Martin because he could solve them easily. His spirit magic would always guide him to figure out the puzzles like they didn’t even exist.
“So, you are sure that that merchant died in the dungeon?”
“Y-y-yes! His caravan was left u-unlooted so it couldn’t have been bandits. It is the only option that m-makes sense.”
“Hey, kid do you have any light spells?”
The little nervous kid is probably only good for being a torch in the dungeon.
“Y-y-yes sir I, I can do that!”
“Show me to this dungeon, I’ll let you take 50% of the loot just don’t get in my way!”
I sling my broadsword onto my back and put my helmet on. The fangs on the helmet droop in front of my face. It was our teams signature look, we all had fangs on our helmets. This sure brings me back to the good old days.
“Sir, sit back down you need to finish your work!”
This secretary sure is firm on keeping the same schedule.
“Just sign them for me, nobody will notice!”
“Sir it is not okay to slack on your duty!”
I pick up one of the kids who saw the dungeon and sling him over my back like a sack of potatoes as I leave the room.
“Now you said it was on the mountain side right kid?”
“Y-yes sir!”
Alright I haven’t gotten to use my 290 spd in a long time, I hope this kid can handle it because I don’t want to slow down to his pace.
“Kid, if you have to puke, puke behind you don’t get it on me.”
“Huh?”
With my 250 end I can sprint the whole time up the mountain so I should able to get there in a few hours.
“Waaaaaaaiiiiit!”

The Kodoku Game
In Japanese folklore, there once existed an ancient technique among alchemists for harvesting the strongest poison known to man. A poison so vicious, so horrendous, that a single drop could incapacitate an entire nation of humans, several times over. A poison so intense that a single drop could turn the tides of a war on its head. As potent as it appeared however, this poison could be harvested from the blood of a single insect alone- an insect the alchemist’s called the ‘Kodoku’. As lucrative as was attaining this poison however, the problem lied in identifying this insect- its appearance, shape and size changed from region to region and from continent to continent. Sometimes it took the appearance of a ladybug and other times a horned-beetle. In order to determine the identity of this special insect the alchemists came up with an ingenious method. They created an impregnable jar of clay out of the best sandstone they could find and placed hundreds of different insects into the same jar. The jar was made with such great mastery that it allowed no insects to escape and allowed no objects to enter. The laws of nature dictated that the insects would remain together in the jar forever. However, it turned out that as time went on, the insects’ hunger for food and power caused them to turn against each other- one insect ate another until only one remained. This sole insect contained a poison that far surpassed that of all the others and became stronger as it ate more and more insects. The alchemists at this point had succeeded in identifying the Kodoku and could extract it’s poison as long as they continued to feed it regularly. Although this folklore ends here, the actual story does not. One day, as the alchemists cheered in joy of having identified the Kodoku they so eagerly wanted, they forgot to close the lid on the very jar that was considered to be completely impregnable. This small gap was just large enough for the Kodoku inside to crawl out. Famished from not having been fed for weeks, the Kodoku ended up eating the very alchemists that nourished its growth until not even the bones remained. Yet, the Kodoku’s hunger didn’t seem to subside in the slightest. So it traveled to the next village and began eating whatever it could find there. Its poison made it unparalleled in strength and slowly but surely it began to dwindle down the population of the entire city. Yet its hunger only continued to grow. So it traveled to the next city over and ate all it could there. Very soon, the Kodoku couldn’t find any more food to eat. There was no one left to eat and no one left to spectate. So it stood there, by itself pondering what possibly was left to eat that could satiate its hunger. But there was one thing left that Kodoku realized it had never eaten. Itself.
