《The Elementalist》Chapter 7: Cleanliness is next to Godliness

Once Tide reached peak fitness after about an hour he stood up and steeled himself to hunt some more slimes.

Before he did though he opened his stats to see how much exp they dished out.

Tide was happy when he saw that he gained 14% to his next level which means each slime would give him 7%. Some of his stats were raised by one or two due to testing his skills the previous day and due to the recent combat. Tide knew boost like these would not last though, soon it would be almost impossible to raise his stats due to exertion as they became higher. Either that or he would have to have a pretty insane training routine.

Tide closed the window and banished his thoughts once again looking towards the slimes. Based off of the last fight his golems seemed to be quite good at fighting these slimes. Deciding it was worth the mana investment, Tide summoned another golem this time being more stingy with his mana causing it to be a bit smaller than the one that crumbled to dust while he was meditating.

He poked Onyx in the head who was taking a nap in the shade of a tree before advancing towards the next slime.

Tide sighed as he plopped down on a log back at camp, he quickly removed his shoes and tipped them upside down allowing some trapped slime goo to drip out. He had tried to avoid getting hit by the stuff, but it was almost impossible to avoid the goop after fighting so many slimes.

After the first fight he had made sure to keep the slimes corpses around so he could collect their core shards. Similar to the rabbit's horn these small slivers of the slimes core were much more valuable than the coins dropped. Still if a couple of the slimes corpses were extra messy, he would let them fade away.

Quickly checking his storage ring he counted up the bounty of shards he collected.

“Thirty-seven, damn” Tide said impressed with himself. It wasn’t a bad haul. The reason why he was able to collect some many was due to his golem skill. The animated dirt was great a squishing the slime’s bodies. He was careful at first, but soon realised he could speed the process up a bit by using all his mana to summon two golems at the same time. Still not wanting to develop bad habits, Tide didn't allow himself to be idle.

Once he recognised the slimes’ attack pattern he was able to fight one without much risk by dodging out of the way and squashing the blobs with his staff.

Overall while the money the shards would give him were nice, it wasn't what he was killing the slimes for. Even Onyx was able to get a couple kills by biting into some slimes and yanking out their cores. Honestly Tide was pretty shocked when he saw Onyx learn about the slimes’ weak point. The cub acted like an lovable idiot most of the time and Tide underestimated his intelligence.

Either way, Tide had made great strides in growing stronger and could forget his aches and pains from the fights by looking at his stats page.

Not only did he manage to gain three levels, but most of his other stats gained another point. Tide decided once again to raise both control and wisdom by 5, but also added 5 to vitality so he had a bit of survivability. He also noticed that his earth affinity rose once again and hoped it would keep on rising.

Grunting, Tide closed the window and got to his feet. He wouldn’t be going to sleep with various parts of his body being sticky with slime.

Tide pulled out his map and double checked that there was a stream near by. He quickly told Onyx to stay there before After a couple of minutes he found it but was quite disappointed. Instead of a stream that he could wash off in he found a pathetic trail of water flowing over some rocks. Tide turned to walk away, but quickly turned back around remembering that he was an elementalist.

He quickly undressed and stored his slimy clothes in his ring rather than have them stick to the ground and pick up dirt.

Activating element manipulation he infused the water flowing down the stream and brought it up into the air. He quickly had the water rid itself of any filth or muck in it before guiding it towards himself.

The water wavered in the air, unsteady and Tide had to focus to get it to stay together. After a day of slinging spells Tides mind was exhausted and demanded a break. Tide’s pride wouldn't allow it and pushed himself to make the water his bitch. Slowly, Tide had the water start to glide over his body removing any sweat, slime, or blood that accumulated throughout the day. He began to get a headache, but pushed it away in the pursuit of cleanliness.

Soon Tide had finished washing each part of his body and the ball of water was a disgusting shade of brown, red, and yellow. Tide let the water go and let out a sigh of relief due to the satisfaction of being clean. After the sigh, Tide promptly feel to the ground unconscious, his mind rebelling against his tyranny.
