《I am a Guardian in another world!?》Chapter 91: Against the Bulwark

Lawrence swung his bluish sword and from it, a large jet of air seemed to blast through the air, cutting through ranks of infantrymen who were still staring at him. Screams of their pain was only drowned out by the continued onslaught by the Owls. Now, the cataphracts were closing in as well.
"Commander, he is the commander! Swarm him! Swarm him!" Clive shouted at the mercenaries around him, grabbing one steadily retreating man and pushing him forward. Upon hearing that, all the mercenaries shouted, putting on a brave front as they charged at Lawrence, while from the other side, Gerheist rank and file lowered their spells and sprinted forward.
Lawrence's response was to raise his sword into the air, and from there, the skies turned a bright orange. A rain of fire poured forth, and those that touched this fiery spill were instantly coated by the fire that they could not extinguish even if their friends dropped everything to try and put out the fire.
Clive then raised his hand to give a signal while whistling. He was going to pull back.
The mercenaries followed Clive to retreat several steps away while the Gerheist rank and files fell into chaos as the Fire Storm consumed them.
Then, Clive raised his arm wildly to get the attention of the Captain of the Longbowmen some distance away. They made eye contact as Lawrence continued pushing through with brute force, seemingly as if no weapon could hurt him. Whatever that attempted to strike him seemed to hit a shield of light before being pushed away.
However, Clive did notice that when one attempted to strike him, he had to raise his tower shield to block off a javelin or spear that another man has thrown. This means...
Clive pointed at Lawrence, mimicking the drawing of a bow and nodded at the Captain who nodded in response. Raising his hand, the captain gave the command for the archers to draw their bow.

Clive lowered himself amongst his men, ready to give the signal.
As the arrows flew forward, slamming into the Shield of Faith that Lawrence had conjured, Clive rushed forward, having observed enough on how Lawrence had been using his blade. His sword was good, but not his skill in using it-
"Your first move is... The whip!" Clive shouted as he ducked , just an inch before the bluish jet of air cut down the men all around him and he lunged forward, his blade pushing through the magic shield and making direct contact with Lawrence's armour.
His sword made a resounding clang against the armour and both men stared at each other momentarily, before Clive raised his own blade again.
"I'm sorry, but I can't let you use anymore magic!" Clive shouted as he kept up with a flurry of bows.
Automated Combat System Turned On
Suddenly, Lawrence seemed to vanish, but an overwhelming presence from behind Clive cause him to dive forward - Not a moment too soon as the blade missed him by inches. Standing up, Clive reached behind him and pulled out a dagger, ditching his round shield. He needed to keep Lawrence sufficiently busy until the Gerheist army won the day. He was doing the job he was paid to do.
Charging forward, he kept himself in a lower position than Lawrence but made sure the distance was consistently close so that Lawrence would be unable to make use of the full length of his blade. His blows did nothing to Lawrence's armour but he was aiming to distract. Once the whole Carminian army was more or less crushed, everyone could simply overwhelm him in numbers.
Lawrence's sword was long, while Clive's was a shortsword and a dagger. This wasn't fighting with honour, but honour gets you nowhere.

However, Clive felt that something was off. The person he was now fighting against was almost certainly the same person, but the way he kept keeping his distance and moving his blade... There was none of that amateurish, needlessly large strokes, but now, just precise blows. If it weren't for luck and Clive's own skill, he would have been cut down a long time ago.
"I-Is this a bloody show!? Join in!" Clive screamed his frustration and the bystanders broke out of their daze, charging forward in a cry. Clive suddenly saw a flash of white emitting from the shield.
Then, there was a ringing in his head as he felt himself kneeling. Then, darkness.

Disclaimer: I'm not continuing this story. Check out Azarinth Healer, it's a more current story where I worked on a lot of things I found wrong with this one. Main character is somewhat similar as well so if you like Eleonora, you'll probably like Ilea. I still invested a ton of time writing this so check it out if you feel like it. There's gonna be 20 Chapters 39k words total. Hey everyone. This is a story I've started writing like a year ago and thought why not post it now. This story is about fighting and magic in a pretty standard fantasy world. The story follows Eleonora through her daily life in Duneswatch and on her way to become an adventurer. No secrets here, it's pretty generic. Should be decently paced so just give it a shot if you want to. I'm not gonna sell it to you in this quick summary. The range of writing on RR is so wide we both know you just have to give it a chapter...or a paragraph depending on how unique the grammar is. Please do criticize harshly. I'm definitely no writer but everybody can improve with pointers in the right direction. Don't expect regular updates.

Mistbound: Eternity
The world is said to be formed out of duality of man. Good and evil, right and wrong, light and dark. And with duality, comes conflict. A meaningless clash of ideals results in pointless wars. Azlan is wanderer who doesn't falls in either category. Tired and done with the redundant world, he lives his secluded life, hunting monstrosites for coin in the crumbling province of Mountaliya, situated in the land of Forsa. The premise follows Azlan as he explores the province, experiencing the culture and its people as they try to stand unshaken amidst a cold and unforgiving world. The story is a dark fantasy that is a balance of action and world building but most importantly, it follows the people going about their daily lives. The world has entered a state of stasis, there are no high stakes, no glory to be had, only a decaying realm of ice remains. Everyone awaits for Heaven's descent, an event prophesied to bring the world out of stasis, by granting the champion of the event a wish. Heaven Shall Descend. I wanted to write a high fantasy story that doesn't focuses too much on Magic and Swordfights, but rather interactions between people, a bit of politics and ideals. This is my first attempt at writing something this huge, please let me know if you see mistakes or any problems in general, so I can learn from them. (The cover picture is from the year 1818, "Wanderer Above the Mist" by Caspar David Friedrich). I also write Short stories set in the same shared universe. You can read them here: Dark Fantasy Short Stories.

Not So Bold
A store clerk wakes up one day in a body not his own. Then wakes up back in his bed, it was just a dream. Right? He soon finds himself living a duel life, bouncing between his mundane life as a shelf stuffer and a strange new one. One where he has floppy ears and itty bitty paws. Notice of Hiatus: At the moment I'm going though a bit of turbulence and won't be able to update for a while. I'm also unsure about weekly/monthly releases. I'm considering writing a large group of chapters then posting them all at once or otherwise setting up releases in a way that makes sense. I'm still figuring out how to go about this particular endevor and thank you for your patience.
