《Method Of Loci》Chapter 2 - Welcome to the family

“..Yeah, I found him passed out in the art room……. Yea Anubis was with him………...I’m already on my way now.” Eliot woke up to the familiar sound of his father's voice and the slight rumble of the car engine. He opened his eyes and took in everything for the first time.
“Holy shit” where the first words that came out of his mouth. Everything was so clear and new but at the same time completely overwhelming. His heart beat faster after a car zoomed past them, his palms moistened with nervousness as he took in how big the world really is. But what scared and fascinated him the most was the man sitting next to him, his dad.
His dad was a bear of a man, with a large well trimmed beard and tattoos scattered across his gigantic arms. He looked menacing to say the least, but his eyes betrayed the rest of his body, they looked almost caring. His father looked nothing like how he had imagined, he looked so weird, the eyes were smaller than the false image he conjured in his head, the nose to big, the beard looked more stiff, everything just looked wrong but yet right at the same time.
“You're up, what happened to you, your mother has been blowing up your phone?” Came the deep baritone of his father's voice after he heard Eliot curse. He didn't say anything about it, James knew how futile it was to clean his sons foul mouth.
James looked over to his son waiting for an answer and saw Eliot staring at him with wide eyes. It took James a couple of seconds to see how his son wasn't looking in his general direction, he was looking at him, and his eyes, there were so clear. ‘He can see’, and then he slammed the brakes, bringing them into a sudden halt.
James grabbed his son's shoulders and looked him into his eyes, Eliot just sat there staring not making a single move. “Can you see me Eliot?” James ask with a slight quiver in his deep voice.
Eliot tried to mouth the words yes so many times, but he felt like it was too good to be true, that any moment it will be taken away from him. His emotions were getting the better of him, tears slowly fell down his face as a big lopsided smile appeared. “..Yeah, I can see your ugly mug just fine.”

If he knew that he would suddenly be crushed by his dad's caveman arms in a huge hug, he would have lied and said no. The sound of car horns blaring, took them out of their little moment, thank god for that. Eliot couldn't take it anymore, yeah it was nice, but it's also nice to breath.
“But how, how are you able to see. All the doctors said you would be blind for the rest of your life.” James said ignoring the growing line of cars behind them.
“I'm not sure, but why was mum trying to ring me, and why did I wake up in your car?” Eliot couldn't help but feel like something was wrong.
“You don't remember getting one of the sphere looking drones? Apparently everyone got one, and when I say everyone I mean the whole world. No one knows where they came from, they just appeared in front of the lot of us. That was an hour ago. There's a list of some crazy shite that you can buy with points, your mother wanted us all together before we make any ‘stupid decisions’. Her words not mine, they're right back there.”
Eliot looked back as James resumed the drive, relieving the line of cars of traffic. Just like dad said, there were two identical looking balls in the back seat hovering behind our heads, but there was something else back there too. It looked like some sort of creature, he couldn't describe the colors (because he's never seen a color before) but he felt the familiar atmosphere the animal gave off.
“Anu?” The dog picked its head up and looked at him, then after Eliot said nothing but stare at him he put his head down to resume his nap. So that's what white blue and black look like. Eliot couldn't help but think he has a lot to learn, but he didn't dwell on it. He grabbed the sphere and started to examine the round object.
To say the least, it looked unremarkable it was about the size of a baseball and perfectly smooth other than the hollow ring in its front ‘its eye?’ After twisting it around and feeling for any other points of interest on the ball he couldn't find how to activate it. He let it float in front of his face.

“You have to say activate.”
“Ah, thanks dad. Activate.” Eliot was surprised to see small glowing dust come out of the the ring of the sphere and create a screen in front of his face.
“Welcome to the cluster constellation, Please review the list of points you have earned throughout your lifetime before making any purchases.”
“Cluster constellation? Wait how am I even reading this?” James looked over and noticed that Eliot's screen was filled with a series of dots.
“It looks like braille.” James added
“I can't sight read braille, i've never even read with my eyes before.” Elliot said looking at the screen confused.
“Does it really matter, just shut up and look through the list.”
Eliot couldn't help but agree with his dad, he was asking all the wrong questions. There was just so much going on all at once for him to concentrate. So much more sensory data then he was used to. He taped the screen and the particles shifted.
Satellite

‘I'm guessing these spheres are called satellites?’ Without much hesitation Eliot clicked on the abilities option, the particles rearranged themselves listing a long list of what he concluded where powers. There were literally thousands of them, these abilities were literally the things of out of books and movies. Eliot couldn't believe his eyes, a statement he thought he would never use.
He scrolled and scrolled but there wasn't an end to list, he eventually clicked out of the ability section and selected Cluster Market, he went through it for a little, but before he could get a good look his dad pulled up to the driveway of their home.
“Oh I should probably mention, your sister is here.” Eliot's face paled a bit at that, he and his sister never got along. It always felt like she went out her way to torment her little blind brother, just for the laughs. The day before she moved out, Eliot had his revenge, and it wasn't pretty… For anyone.
“...Well fuck. Let's get it over with then.”
Eliot opened the door and took in the whole of his house, and the outside world with his eyes, he could see, and he wasn't going to let his muscle for brains sister fuck it up. He let Anubis out and followed his dad inside the house. There he met the only two women in his life (depressing I know).
His mother was a tall elegant looking woman with sharp features, hair black with a single strip of gray tied up in a tight bun and piercing blue eyes. If Eliot were to use an example of her looks it would be like the elves he's listened too in the countless amount of books hes read. But he knew his mother, she wasn't the graceful elf but the stern, blunt women he's known his whole life.
His sister on the other hand definitely got her facial features from their mother, but she got their fathers brownish red curly hair and green eyes with slight freckles, must be the irish blood (thank god for everyone always telling me what color something is). They were both beautiful women as far he can tell with his lack of experience on how a women should look. Both of them had a satellite hovering behind them.
“Good you two are home, we have a lot to discuss.” Came his mother's soft but no nonsense voice.
His sister just stared at him with venom in her eyes; He looked at her, smiled and winked.

Note to Reader: I understand this book is not for everyone, if there is a writer that can write to please everyone, I have never heard of them. The MC can be frustrating in his decisions as he learns to grow and accept what and who he is. I believe this reality is unavoidable. That being said, if you feel the need to give a review, please do so, just know that I will report you if all that review seems to do is blab toxic language and insult my literary choices without giving constructive advice or alternatives. That's not just a me policy, that's a policy of this website. I'm not writing this note because I'm a writer who does not acknowledge that there are faults in my work. I know there are. That's what happens when it hasn't been professionally edited by someone other than the author. I'm saying this because I'm sick of reading 1 star or 0.5 star rated reviews that seem to do nothing but hate on the book because they don't like the story. No comments on grammar, ways to improve or suggestions for better story arcs. Just plain hate. It's not on, and I frankly shouldn't have to write this note, but needed to get it off my chest. In saying all that, thank you to those who do leave reviews that don't fall into the above category. Your appreciation of my work, or alternatively, your willingness to give advice for improvement, is appreciated.
